I think you might be eating your hat (have you even got a hat? If not you've got a decade to purchase one), because the park seems to be doing fairly well in it's current direction. They've managed the transformation of the park well and I believe it's making a profit at the moment(?). I think it's too early to tell whether it will last a decade or not, but I can see if they continue on the current track it lasting quite a while, but probably without much changing.

The old wildlife museum near the Corkscrew gave me nightmares for years.
 
I'd probably say the L&T Systems Mine Train at Funland Hayling Island is the UKs roughest. Spine breaking, knee destroying crap.

I suppose at the Valley now nothing can hurt you
 
I have only visited LWV twice in my life, roughly a decade apart.

Had plenty of rides on The Ultimate on both visits and it wasn't even that good. Really long of course but quite slow in places and incredibly rough. Glad I got a chance to ride it but I'm not going to be that upset I can't ever do it again.

Can almost guarantee someone will do that. Absolutely no point though as it is the park's decision. It's been SBNO for years, so would require a fair bit of investment to get back to safe operation standards. As Tom said, it's time to let go and remember how crazy it was.

It's also worth noting that any kind of modern revamp of The Ultimate would probably have removed many of the things that the ride's fans liked about it.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but I get the impression that The Ultimate was so loved by its fans due to its raw brutality, and its appeal was almost on the basis that it was "so bad it's good".

Would a modified Ultimate built to modern safety standards with the same layout embody that same kind of brutal character? I'm not so sure.

Not unless you add a thousand tons of lead to the trolley, and a lot of tight bends on the hill.
It was the mass of the beast being forced into the tight turns through the wooded valley that made the ride.
You aren't going to get that sensation in any shopping trolley down a hill.
Like a lot of things in life, very nice while it lasted, never to be replaced.
