I see the lad is getting stick on Twitter for calling it unsafe. Nowt like an enthusiast witch-hunt. I thought he come across really well. Well until he said Wickerman is his favourite coaster

Thinking maybe he just said that because he was on national news and wanted to name a coaster he thought people might have actually heard of?

People have different ideas of what 'unsafe' means in relation to a ride - if it had got a lot rougher in its last few years of operation then it could definitely be considered 'unsafe' in terms of an increased risk of neck and back injuries etc. But unsafe as in any more likely to derail and kill people - probably not.

Well, sure - after 3 years being left to rot in the woods it's not going to be rideworthy - but I think he was referring to how it rode in its final operating years.

There are two things that are sad about the demise of LWV

1) when I was a kid it had some unique rides (The Rat, Toad in the hole, The Ultimate).

2) It influenced the creator of Rollercoaster Tycoon.

Interesting video on the Ultimate here, perhaps most people are aware of all the detail so apologies if it’s nothing new. I was aware that British Rail had some involvement in the ride, but not the detail - like the fact the track was laid on railway sleepers! Perhaps explains its rather unique roughness after all those years.
