Liseberg: General Discussion

Helix is likely one of the best all-rounders out there, and takes full advantage of the ride system and those from-the-shoulder lap restraints. When I started getting into rides I thought it must surely be possible to design a coaster that could blend inversions and airtime seamlessly, and the opening of this coaster in particular proved it is. I don't have a clearly defined top 10, but this is easily my current number 1.

The layout is very different to Icon. It's a neatly paced sequence of quite defined track elements, with each following quickly on from the last. A couple of bits don't quite hit the mark (looking at you, first hill and uphill slalom), but on the whole every part feels like it has a purpose, is good fun, and offers surprising force. The inversions are generally geared towards rolling, twisting moves that the Mack megacoaster excels at, and the hills deliver pretty strong airtime. The final hill before the fastest point of the ride is the clear highlight, especially at night with the lights of Gothenburg spread out before you; indeed, the absurd setting on the hillside makes the ride across it even more amazing.

Icon is by no means a bad coaster, but it's the weakest of the 4 Mack megacoasters I've been on so far by quite some margin. The pacing of it is the biggest problem. Much of the layout consists of Taron-style rambling all over the shop, but unlike Taron, for much of the day it lacks the speed to make this particularly interesting. Rides within the first half hour are hopelessly slow. The two inversions being fired off together strikes me as a mistake too. Limitations of the site permitting, they could have been split up or another could have been added towards the end.

Apparently the seat belts on Helix have been changed to something more like old-school B&M restraint belts. Excellent news if true, should speed up loading and address the potential discomfort.

Sorry if this seems a bit random, but I thought this would be the relevant place to post it. I was just going to ask, for those who've ridden both; what is it about Helix that makes it so much better than Icon? Only asking because Icon looks more dynamic and airtime-based from POVs, whereas Helix looks more inversion-based, and I thought a lot of enthusiasts tended to prefer airtime?

Helix has airtime, well paced turns and the location helps.

Icon is slow and boring

I can see why if you've only ridden Icon you might think this. The truth is that Helix is better in every facet - landscaping, airtime, forcefulness, pacing, flow and of course the overall ride experience. If only Icon was slightly faster it might even begin to offer some kind of opposition in terms of Mack Megas however at present it's not even in the same league as the likes of Helix.

Liseberg has released, what seems to be, the first of two drone filmed videos showing Valkyria.

Here's their Helix teaser to fill the void until the full video is released.

Holy cow that looks almost shot for shot like the CGI Valkyria trailer. Will be at lisiberg this Friday - Sat and very excited for my first visit!

Having just watched the CGI Valkyria trailers to see what you mean, I truthfully don't and especially since this was all in one take! ;)

But the camerawork truthfully does make the coaster look uncanny and it'll likely show more on the tangle of track that is Helix.

Yeah I rewatched it too and agree I think what my brain thought was how well it captured the style and feel of that video

Sorry to bump this thread up- I'm going to the park this Friday/Saturday, has anyone got any tips for the park or rides e.g best seats on the coasters and decent food outlets? Cheers

The Bar Gasten is pretty fab, as is the Lisebergbanen station restaurant...

Seats are as per, backrow in everything...

Love icon so looking forward to the hour of exclusive ERT on helix I'm going to get on the PBE lisiberg trip to savour what I'm sure will be my new no.1 coaster (about 50 creds currently)

How was this trip out of interest? I was very tempted to do it but work commitments (bleeding training) got in the way.

I shall definitely be booking for next year and get the new dark ride in too.

Phenomenal. Went with PBE and got full backstage tour of baldar, valkyria and helix. Will post pics and a full review later. Helix firm no 2 for me behind wildfire. Baldur is best woodie I have done and Valkyria is a very good dive coaster for its hight, close between that and SheiKra for me for best dive coaster. Inversions are far better than those on any other dive I have done.

The park has a lovley feel and shows what PB could be if they made some better choices on food, landscaping and opening hours. Great kids selection of rides and very clean. The staff there and Pontis head of guest relations made us feel like royalty.

If you are just doing Lisiberg it is very easy to get our. 30 min bus from entrance of park to airport. Gothia towers is right in front of the park or Spot on hostel where I stayed was right by the back entrance. Kolmården is a bit more of a tricky trip but still very doable. If your not taking a car I would recommend going from Stockholm to Kolmården then to lisiberg and flying back via gothenberg as that saves a few hours of travel time.

Finally visited last week on the Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Genuinely blown away by how good the park is. Helix and Balder are both world class Rollercoaster as well.
The selection of flat rides with upswinget, aerospin, and atmosphere strategically placed on the mountain terrain to add to the overall experience. I even managed to finally do inversions after failing every time on Sky Force.
Whilst Loke feels like you're genuinely going to smash into Balder, Mechanika, and Juke Box are both ace as well. The UK desperately needs some flats like Loke and Juke Box.

I used my Pleasure Beach Platinum Pass for free entry one day which was effectively half the cost of my pass. The staff were quickly able to sort my admission as well so no issues at all.

I've not been back since Loke and Valkyria were installed. Next year is definitely looking likely. Get the new dark ride too so it will be 3 new major rides.

Liseberg is absolutely amazing.
