M&D's: General Discussion

I don't understand why they've chosen to re-emerge now. Would have been better to liquidate the old company and the new company to buy the old assets for pennies on the pound and avoid all the fallout.

The prime asset (the land) would not have gone for pennies on the pound.

Quite - but also, in this scenario, there is no guarantee that a competitor wouldn't pick up 'your' assets for bottom dollar.

Probably the most sleazy theme park operators in the country?

I do suspect that as mentioned before they were trying to flog the park off before the pandemic kicked in as well as selling rides off that they decided to make this new company that was not only debt free but use it with no 'connections' with the old park that someone would take it on?

Given how debt ridden the oldco were, this might be a way of trying to try their flogging of the park again with a better chance with the poor staff members being the losers in this. Sounds a daft plan I know but then again this is the Taylor family after all who are just a pack of bampots.

And don't get me started on the Merlin and Taylor love child if that ever happened...!:fearscream:

Those photos of it taken down piece by piece and stacked on a lorry hardly shout 'scrapped'!
I heard from a Youtuber that it had been scrapped but maybe I was wrong. It was Scotland's only looping rollercoaster and it was a Pinfari and I never got to do it. The park like their Pinfaris too much.

It wasn't, you're thinking of Tornado in the same park.

Don't believe the hype and stay away from the edit button on Wikipedia!

The park like their Pinfaris too much.

Pinfari and M&D's are a match made in hell, though I do have a soft spot for Tsunami in which was in fact my first inversion coaster plus is in fact a Pinfari that's smooth!

Anyway, don't know why when the Scots and Italians come together to make a roller coaster it is a death trap, rather have the Scots team up with the Dutch (Vekoma) on a roller coaster, at least that sounds more safer.

To bring up M&D's again, it has gone quiet over there since the backlash from former staff...wonder what happens next? I suspect given how they wanted to sell the park before the pandemic they might be just temporarily holding onto the place before finding someone to flog the place off once the pandemic is over. Having a debt free park might be more tempting TBH...

M&Ds have confirmed that they have been bought out from administration. The article below from The Herald:

Scotland's largest theme park M&D's saved from administration

Scotland's largest theme park M&D's has been saved from administration.

News broke last month that the much-loved theme park in Strathclyde had gone under following years of financial struggle, made worse by the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

But now, bosses have confirmed that the centre is now under new management - and the park will reopen when lockdown restrictions are lifted.

"We are delighted to announce that Scotland’s Theme Park has been bought out of administration and has new management in place," a statement on social media read.

"In line with Scottish Government guidelines, we are working hard behind the scenes to be able to reopen Scotland’s Theme Park as well as Devil’s Island Adventure Golf, and Amazonia when restrictions have been lifted.

"We are working within the physical distancing guidelines as outlined by the Scottish Government, as well as introducing additional hand sanitising stations located throughout the park and Amazonia and look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

"There will be some modifications when you come back to visit us and we’d ask that you bear with us during this period of change and adjustment to allow us to give you the fantastic day out you would usually experience at Scotland’s Theme Park."

Fantastic news! Does this have anything to do with the news from a few weeks ago, or is it unrelated?

I can't see any mention anywhere of just who the new management is, be it the current owners raising it as a phoenix company or indeed a new buyer entirely. The article seems to allude it could be a new buyer.

I really hope they give the entire park a Dreamland-esque makeover. More greenery and more events alongside the rides. It ought to do them well.

I’m guessing it’s same owners under a Phoenix company. So nothing will change if that’s the case and in the long term it’s not good news.

Thinking that too, it has already been well documented in the press already though if these are brand new owners I will feel more confident in the park's future.

Hopefully more information will come out at who they are, if they are new owners, and what their plans might be.

I think if it is the Phoenix company then anyone who thought this would be a good thing and change the park will look silly. They will keep running the park into the ground with little to no investment and then in a few years time surprise surprise the Phoenix company will file for bankruptcy.

I do suspect it is the Phoenix company, though I do find it strange that while it is known in the press that members of the Taylor family are behind the Phoenix company, they also are stating that this is all brand new owners.

No doubt those unemployed by them will have more than a bone to pick with them. However from what I'm reading is that a bank has given the company, Lochview, money in exchange for the equivalent of a mortgage over the land M&D's occupies at Strathclyde Park. I'll admit this does somewhat confuse me.

That all say, if they rename the place as Lochview then that would be a start, M&D's has always sounded like a tacky rip off for M&S. Though being absolutely idiots they likely won't even do that.

EDIT: Seems on their Facebook many of the public are, rightfully, calling them out knowing it's the same guys but mostly about how disgusted they are over about the redundancies. Some say they won't go unless it is truly different owners. Nice to know that the GP aren't all stupid at times like these...

It appears that M&D Amusements has been sold to their four children for £25 each.

The directors with 25x £1 shares are:
  • CONNELLY, Lillian Jensen
  • TAYLOR, Marc Robert
  • TAYLOR, Matthew Thomas
Matthew William Taylor doesn't appear as a director but is also a shareholder, also with 25x £1 shares.

£100 for the entire company? Wow; I would have been able to afford that!

Why was it so cheap?
