Media Coverage of Alton Towers

The likes of the Daily mail will only be happy once all the rides are shut down, cleared away and the whole place re-themed to Brexit land

Wasnt there a death at another theme park involving an amputee falling form a ride as the restraints ( designed for those with 4 limbs ) didn't hold him in place.
Most ride documentation states the number of limbs and/or part limbs that the manufacturer has deemed necessary for guests to be secured by the harness.

You might be referring to the accident on Ride of Steel here.

Reported as 80ft on their Facebook embed link...

Well this is the daily heil. Only so much brexit, refugees, immigrants, they can take. Surprised Katie Hopkins didn't appear, before heading on fox news to tell us all we are a divided Country. We all live in fear of being stranded on roller coasters upside down.

No, slander is spoken, this would be libel.
It costs an absolute fortune to sue anyone, and I imagine the Fail has more litigation staff than journalists!
Don't read it, don't comment on it, just ignore it.

Although Alton towers could only take action if the facts were wrong, and the article caused them damage in some way.
The facts burried deep in the article appear to be correct, in that the ride stopped, those on board were stopped for a short while on the lift hill looking straight down ( if they removed the goggles) and after a while they got off the ride.

The way the article is/was written though is pure dramatic exaggeration made to look like some horrific event when really it was nothing of the sort.
what next?

Alton Towers visitors tell of horror as Bus stops while transporting them to ( or from) park.
A bus transporting 56 Alton towers guests came to a dramatic stop on a busy road, putting the lives of all those on board in danger, Brunette Kayleigh, age 22 who was wearing a revealing low cut top, said she though she could die as something could have ploughed into the back of the bus injuring everyone on board

I think the paper needs to look at itself. BUT the story came from somewhere. Guessing that somewhere was social media. The problem is the dick stood near a ride, taking a photo putting it on to social media. The right hashtag or a post on a blog and boom you've got a story. Good journalism in finding the story, poor research in what it was. But in the days of papers tightening purse strings. Getting Alton towers is expensive to tweeting/the facebooking someone.

That sort of stuff has been going on since the likes of youtube first arrived and before that picture sharing sites and so on, people will film/take photos of something out of the ordinary, it is to be expected
The key change has been in how the media deals with it, and in some cases whips itself into a frenzy over nothing.

If you look online you will find various videos of things coming to a stop at Alton towers, and other parks and in almost all cases rides and attractions doing what they should, coming to a safe stop and then either being re-started or passengers getting off the ride in a safe orderly manner at a safe point to do so.

Well Mr Johnson is back on facebook with a video. I would like to see him in operation explanation video. Not videos starting "you may of seen in the media"

Theres a lot of myth and miss understanding out there, Alton Towers could do with another fly on the wall documentary series looking more at the attractions/how they work ( or dont) and the people that look after them/fix them and operate them, along the lines of a How it works type series.

Instead werre treated to absolute garbage in the media telling us that the Notorious Smiler ride came to a grinding halt leaving terrified riders fearful for their lives as they were left suspended upside down

this is a quote From the Daily mail article linked to above
One rider claimed to have been 'hung upside-down for an eternity' as the Smiler ride stopped yesterday afternoon.

@t0wen said on Twitter: 'I was on there. 45 mins. Not cool.'

Responding to someone who asked what happened, he added: 'God knows. Ride malfunctioned and we all hung upside down for an eternity.'

the Media would have a field day if there was another powercut/when the next powercut arrives, and (lucky) guests have to be abseiled out of the skyride by the rope rescue team, whilst others are escorted off rides and down the lift hill steps

I thought skyride had an emergency generator for power failure evacuation
