Nemesis Reborn: General Discussion

You are of course assuming that AT have had enough complaints to go to B&M over this.

I very much doubt the general public would say anything given they likely won’t ride it as much as we do.

I’m sure they haven’t had many public complaints, but the behind the scenes tours of Nemesis last year showed that the maintenance teams were very aware of the problem and discussing possible causes. As client, AT have paid for a certain product and if it’s not unreasonable to seek solutions. Nothing to suggest it is the case, but there could be reasons other than guest feedback to want solutions - potential impact on lifespan of components or concern that long term the ride will become rough to the extent that people do start complaining

If you get train 2 then it is miles smoother than train 1. Train 2 is silky smooth yet 1 is a very poor ride. It’s more luck than anything which I think leads to people’s varied responses. But yes Train 1 needs major work it is very uncomfortable, not because of head banging as such, more the vibrating and bumpiness.
Train 2 isn't silky smooth, it had a pretty bad rattle on Saturday afternoon when I rode on the back row.

For me it's not the sort of rattle that gives me a headache or leaves me feeling shaken around unpleasantly though, it just feels as though so much of the force you used to feel with Old Nemesis (and still do on Inferno) is being wasted on unwanted sideways movements. Almost like revving a sports car on gravel, spinning the wheels and going nowhere fast.

It is personal tolerances, and mine are quite high. I love Saw and Grand National for example. A good old slam in the ears was never a problem with the original because I've ridden it so many times. I still hold my head forward now even though I no longer need to instinctively. Old habits die hard.

Neither trains have traversed the layout completely smooth since opening. What was an annoying noise and a tapping feeling underneath the seat towards the end has escalated significantly. With the speed the downwards helix is taken at, these vibrations were quite uncomfortable. Headache inducing.

I have a bad back and that's not the rides fault, but I need to tense a certain way to prevent pain and it's normally fine. But I'm so used to that helix I normally just enjoy the forces limp. It only lasts a split second and I know how to handle it, but doing that Monday meant a bump caused a shot of pain right through my lower back. I then braced all the way round like I would on a rough coaster or one I'm not familiar with, ruining any enjoyment.

Maybe the problem with Nemesis Reborn is they are the original trains so perhaps some new trains should be purchased
They are new trains though

The problem is that we don't know what the issue is, Ryan the ride mechanic suspected it was the bearings which have changed increasing the tolerance, there are plenty of other issues it could be but it isn't limited to nemesis so I would suspect B&M are investigating it.

Imo I doubt it is a track issue as it seems to vary with speed, and is individual on each train

To go against the grain somewhat, my rides on Reborn this year have been far better and more tolerable than last year, albeit from a small sample size. Last year it gave me a massive headache on more than one occasion, this year no such issue.

That’s not to say that everybody commenting otherwise is wrong, but I expect it’s a small percentage of people who come off and think ‘this isn’t how it’s supposed to ride’.

Euro Theme Park Archive just released a Nemesis documentary!! Great watch! Makes me miss the OG even more though :/
I'm glad that I watched this documentary, because - in addition to the great photographs of Thunder Valley before Nemesis was built - it helped me to understand why the name of the ride was changed from 'Secret Weapon' to 'Nemesis'.

I'm aware that the original plan was to build an Arrow Pipeline coaster, which was then changed to a B&M inverted coaster instead, but I never quite understood why the name was changed as well (I've heard various theories over the years).

If my understanding of this documentary was correct, the first Pipeline design (SW1) was supposed to be a regular coaster above ground, and the second Pipeline design (SW2) was then supposed to be built partially underground, in order to provide more height - which is probably what led to the shift towards the underground alien theme for Nemesis (SW3).

Was a very good watch!

I am always impressed by the production value in these, there’s good information whole being quite nice on the eyes too. Seeing concept art and archive photos and such make it worth the watch, even if you know almost all the information anyway.

John Wardley also refers to himself in the third person at one point, which was a bit odd.

While on the subject of ETPA, they posted this fantastic picture to Alton Towers Archive the other day. Before and after Nemesis.

I highly recommend checking out their Facebook page, fantastic pictures of the resort.

The biggest thing on that is how tiny that fence is compared to those in the area now

Nowadays we have to assume everyone has zero intelligence and needs their entire life spelt out for them.
I doubt the intellect of an average person has shifted all too much, at least to common sense. These rules are often written in blood

Another quick note about the documentary: apparently, the stones erected around the Nemesis area (excavated from the pit) are supposed to resemble Stonehenge, as the area was supposed to be marketed as an ancient holy site due to the mysterious rumblings beneath (caused by the Nemesis alien creature)?

This is a good idea, but I don't remember the Stonehenge / holy area ever being mentioned since the ride launched, other than during interviews with the ride's designers?

In my opinion, AT should have linked Nemesis to the Thunder Looper, by stating that the vibrations caused by the Thunder Looper began causing strange underground noises across the way, and so AT began digging in order to investigate.

P.S. I was surprised that John Wardley provided narration, but yet did not participate in the interview itself; perhaps he found it easy to send over some MP3s of him talking, but found it too much hassle to film a video interview? Also: the fact that he spoke in the third person suggests that he was perhaps not the original first choice of narrator?

P.P.S. The opening shot of the documentary is a bit misleading, as it actually shows the stones excavated from the pit already installed along the walkway; in my opinion, a more accurate pre-Nemesis photograph of the area would have been the shot at the 1:02 mark.

Back in 1994 it was themed as such. But it was more an evolved/alien race which were the followers and worshippers of Nemesis. There was essentially a “base camp” with people who had gathered at the site with kitchens and make shift homes etc.

It was definitely diluted as time went on and became more about the creature and less about the pilgrimage/worship.
