Nemesis: Sub-Terra

In it’s final season the finale had no actors in it as they had been cut for cost saving, you just walked through the containers with the loud noises and stuff.

It works better with actors but it’s also fine with no actors as most people are scared cause it’s dark and loud.

On another note, has there ever been another ride on park that was as short lived as this one?
Oh, yes. There definitely has been. There are several flats that lasted less time, but probably the most comparable was Nick: Outta Control, which didn't even manage two seasons.

I believe the very shortest ride tenure (outside of event specific attractions) was the Spaceboat back in 1983, which only operated for a few months before it was removed.

Its sad that the creative team behind Sub Terra went for the "military" theme anyway. I think a more entertaining and richer inspiration would've been the scrappy cult worshippers from the early Nemesis days.

The military base theme is negative. Nobody ever enjoyed being shouted at by teenage ride hosts in army vests and cliched graphics on screens clumsily narrating you the Nemesis story, with no intrigue or atmosphere.

No visitors who enjoyed Nemesis ever heard of or enjoyed "Phallanx" until someone tried to be clever and read up about the comic book on wikipedia for the development of Sub Terra, and completely misfired on their interpretation (in my opinion)

To be fair the forbidden valley theme does lend itself more to the post monster discovery side of the story rather than the pre-discovery still buried cult elements.

That said never understood the shouty staff, you have invited folk to your “facility” stop shouting at them, it always seemed really really stupid.

I've been on an Army base (Signals Museum is on an active Army base) and a USAF/RAF base (with work) very recently and was shouted at precisely 0 times. Instructed to not take photos, had to sign in with photo ID and carry their ID at all times yes, but never felt unwelcome despite one of the bases being closed to the public.

Still after the discovery. There used to be actors dressed as oddball scrapyard squatters there to worship the creature

Ultimately we do not know. There are indications that it could be, but no one can say for sure if it is or is not re-opening. Good cases could be made for both scenarios, and I think on current evidence I'm leaning slightly towards the possibility of it re-opening next year.
When the rumours of Nemesis closing for a year to be re-tracked started circulating, Sub-Terra re-opening to compensate for that was also part of that rumour.

The rumour of the re-track was probably circulated deliberately by the park themselves, they would have known that some, maybe even most enthusiasts and fans of the park were probably going to react badly to, arguably, the best ride being closed for an entire season. So to counter that, put it out as a rumour so any bad feelings regarding it could be offset by the fact that it might not actually be happening. Then over time, the more it is spoken about the more people actually get used to the idea, so by the time it is confirmed to be happening the impact of that is lessened.
I think with that in mind, the work going on inside the building, and the fact that it isn't, as far as we know, being used for Scarefest, we can probably assume that the original rumour was correct.

The park don’t deliberately leak really, but people who work for them do.

I mean, they will already have a teams of people a stones throw away working on Duel. If they were to bring this back, now would be the time while they have dark ride specialists already on site, working on another project.

I do feel that even if we are getting two rides ready for next season, I'd suspect Duel/HH will be getting obviously the main attention with Sub Terra getting not quite the same attention though as you said, the two rides are next to each other so it could an amusing image of these workers rushing between both attractions everyday to work on them! :p

Assuming the restraint issue is no longer an issue....all they need to come up with is a new pre and post show which doesn't require lots of staff.

Pre-show could be a simple video played to guests explaining the situation.

Post show could just be some moody lighting and audio effects rather than a scare actor. Maybe an air cannon effect on the way out too.

I've been thinking about ways they could improve Nemesis when it re-opens and they could have a dual car, so that there are seats under the track and on top of the track as well. So basically people in the queue can choose whether to ride an inverted coaster or sit on top of the track in a more traditional fashion.

Thoughts?

My thoughts are I want what you're smoking

Yeah but they had all the shouty staff too didn't they? A video was all that was ever required. People tend to shut up and listen mostly when pre show Vids kick in.
You would still need a member of staff to batch guests on to the various spots, which then determine which lift they go in and where they sit on the ride.

True and I said that earlier in the thread but that would only be one member of staff. The ride should be able to run with no more than 5 staff members.
