Seemed pretty easy to do on the RCT1 Alton Towers scenario...How much work would be needed to add an inversion on the banking out the tunnel.
It would be a decent upgrade and id imagine a relatively short build time. Would the trains be able to take an inversion?

Surely they could just use new trains if that was the main reason why they couldn't put an inversion on it?How much work would be needed to add an inversion on the banking out the tunnel.

Oblivion doesn’t need an inversion. It doesn’t need anything else. It’s a short ride but it delivers.

Would they only have to just replace the drop sections and the final turn section of the ride as they’re the weakest points?

Do you mean structurally or weakest in terms of thills?Would they only have to just replace the drop sections and the final turn section of the ride as they’re the weakest points?

structurally the drop the best bit followed by the exit from the tunnel. Can’t wait to ride it this year as it was 2018 when I last went on it.Do you mean structurally or weakest in terms of thills?

Hope you enjoy, it’s not changed much since then!structurally the drop the best bit followed by the exit from the tunnel. Can’t wait to ride it this year as it was 2018 when I last went on it.

I agree on your theory about how it was constructed, we can never be sure. I think any retrack is a while off yet. One retrack in the park and suddenly over a closed season everyone’s speculating others will soon have one! Some good photos there, I think what those photos highlight more than anything, is that it appears the track was lowered into the tunnel after the tunnel was built. Even though it is not totally clear, it appears that way, I am sure I have seen photos somewhere before backing that up also.
This means, that should Oblivion have a re track in the future of which I hope it would if it ever needed it, being one of the most iconic and photo genic coasters on this planet (specifically the drop). Then, it is possible to replace track in the tunnel, if it was needed.

It’s certainly one of a kind. Not many like it indeed, although Towers have certainly made a point in the last 25 years that there is only one way for it - down! It’s aged well too I think.I guess it's subjective, but I really like Oblivions 90s look and feel as there really isn't anything else like it in the Theme Park industry. Whenever I queue for The Smiler, most people seem really bored or frustrated from the soundtrack, but when I queue for Oblivion, people seem to really like the queues aesthetic and sound effects, and boy do they love dancing to the music XD. Kids still seem to be quite creeped out by the Lord Of Darkness himself.
Controversial opinion, but I think Oblivion has aged quite well from what it is as a theme, which I think the exact opposite for the Smiler which has aged not too well I think. The concept for the Smiler is actually great and could've blended so well into X-Sector, but I think it could've been executed better thanks to the bland concrete building, horrendous queue layout, and annoying Soundtrack. Anyway, this isn't the Smilers thread.
Why not? It met all the required planning for keeping within height in the park, and to not be seen from certain angles for heritage reasons. It’s a beautiful machine, they wouldn’t get planning permission for something that high again in X sector. It’s a great experience and the fastest coaster in the park.

With all due respect, who cares if you are bored of it? I do not, not when you put it like that at least. No one is forcing you to read this topic or visit this forum, you do that on your own free will. I assume with an expectation of the kinds of topics that will be discussed. If you do not like the discussion, it is simple, do not talk in that specific discussion. No need to put other peoples points down because you do not like what is being said.
This is a discussion forum for Alton Towers. We are discussing and speculating. Done it around here for nearly a decade, a decade before that on TTF. The point is, this is nothing new, speculating and discussing, as long as topics are not going round and round and round in circles, I do not see what the issue is?
Going onto the theme of Oblivion, I do like it, but I feel that along with a lot of stuff from the late 90's it has not aged as well as it could have. I feel almost that pre millennium stuff had this expectation of what they thought the post millennium would be like. This came through in the aesthetics of lots of things back in the day, including Oblivion. As soon as the realities of post millennium kicked in, things with this aesthetic aged really really quickly.

Bit of an overreaction there @DistortAMG , I’m not putting peoples points down, I make one comment and this!

Can we get back to discussion about Oblivion please? Either respond to the discussion being posted, whether that be critically or positively, or skip right past it. That's the beauty of forums, discussion evolves by people contributing to the topic. If people don't want to talk about what's being discussed, then either the discussion moves on, or us here on the team will move things on if it's not doing so naturally. Posting that you're "bored" or are tired of reading the topic isn't adding to it constructively.
Finally, if you think the discussion is against our member expectations or is off topic, then by all means hit the report button and the team will review it. However it's not for individuals to determine what is being discussed purely based on whether they find it boring.

It’s fair to speculate on the future of other rides at Towers. As the years pass it will become more of a discussion point as the rollercoasters age.
Nemesis is rather unique in regards to the landscape, the complex engineering building a coaster in a pit and the stresses on the track/supports that you wouldn’t necessarily find if it were built on flat land.
Oblivion is a shorter ride and has less stress points, so it’s unlikely to need major work/consideration for removal for a while. If it indeed looks as if the track could be replaced without mass digging that’s good (when the time comes). As said there’s a few things that could be done to spin some marketing hype after a refurbishment, going floorless or even having a backwards row.
The theme hasn’t aged well. I feel the whole of X Sector is in a state at the moment. A temporary fun fair ride, Oblivion with it’s aged theme and looking tired, and The Smiler looking a mess also. The whole area could do with a big refurbishment.

I read they had a lot of complaints regarding the noise from the top of the lift hill. I just can’t see them getting planning for another coaster of that height at the park. Especially over that side near coaster corner. Why not? It met all the required planning for keeping within height in the park, and to not be seen from certain angles for heritage reasons.
I’m thinking they perhaps put the drop in a tunnel to suppress the noise a bit?
I love the ride, everything about it. Just need those end seats up and operational again and two stations running all season to keep the cars from stacking on the brake run.

The complaints of noise from the drop was the "don't look down" audio made people scream more. .I read they had a lot of complaints regarding the noise from the top of the lift hill. The drop is into a tunnel because of the height restriction, cant build up, so build down. . . Which probably makes more noise than if it wasn't. . It makes a right clap going into the tunnel

Oblivion going into the tunnel is one of the best theme park sounds ever! The complaints of noise from the drop was the "don't look down" audio made people scream more. .

Something could be added to the tunnel, but it would only be frills that are not needed.Actually, if Oblivion and by extension the rest of X-Sector would see a revamp to bring the theme up to date (X-Sector 2.0 let's say), what would you all like to see personally if that day happens with any changes?
Bringing back a longer hold at the top would be nice!
