Oblivion: General Discussion

There are also ladders at the other end of the tunnel.

Fact is they are unlikely to ever approve tours of the tunnel, either end is not particularly accessible and I would assume H&S would state that guests need to be able to exit via either route in the event of an emergency and the drop end of the tunnel would be considered too extreme in that event.

Indeed. Would be fun, but unlikely to ever happen.

I noticed on Oblivion the other day it has White Lights on the right hand side not sure if they are new or been there the entire time but they were on

I assume there is some services doors in the tunnel or is the only way down from the ground level hole so to speak ?

I get a little stressed when I see those photos within Oblivion's tunnel. Is there enough clearance room at the side to dodge a train?!
I know what you mean because I feel the same😅 I think it’s irrational though. They will have protocols in place to prevent a train going down whilst someone is in the tunnel. Health and safety 101.

This is the sort of procedure they'll follow.

they will use lock out tag out, it will be a required thing for all rollercoasters as they all have spots that can kill, imagine being on nemesis brake run and a train coming, Inverted coasters are quite bad for this as if someone is in the ride area it is very hard to tell where the train will hit as it hangs down quite far from the track (multiple people have been killed because of a variety of reasons such as jumping the fence, not properly doing loto (lock out tag out) etc then being struch by the train.

it is quite a good system if everyone follows the rules, you mention doging out of the way but there is probably very little chance you would have enough time, given the fact it is running at 70mph and pauses before dropping there may be little vibrations or noise (and very little visual timing) to give enough time to doge.

Some access points into restricted areas of rides go beyond standard lockout procedures and are interlocked with the ride such that the gate cannot physically be opened without shutting down the ride. An example of such a gate can be seen in the Wicker Man queue line (between the shop and the brake run IIRC). Given how old Oblivion is, my guess would be that this sort of safety feature wasn't installed for the tunnel access but it probably would have been if the ride were built today.

I’ve done the track walk, Oblivion does have interlock gates

Has Oblivion theming changed all that much in it 27 year history looking at old photos it appears not a whole lot has changed except the refurbishment of the old planetarium projector room
