Paultons Park: General Discussion

How did that work out? Were rides opening and shutting or were lots closed all day?

It’s a 2+ hour drive for us so don’t really want to take a chance. Shame as current forecast is sunny but gusts up to 45mph
The last time I went with the boys it was pretty wet & windy which put a lot of people off - so it was nice and quiet for us! Rides were opening and closing throughout the day but we managed to get on everything we planned to by the end of our trip. Over the last 30 years of frequently visiting we've had 80% bad weather visits and still not had a bad experience; It's our closest park but as we basically live in the Nether, we're about 1.5hrs away in a car (2+ on public transport as I don't drive!). If you're booked for the Father Christmas experience, it's all indoors (unless it's changed) and usually takes some time to get through, then you've got the indoor/covered animal areas, an indoor play area and gardens to offer weather respite.

Thanks. Yeah we'd only be going for the outdoor rides (coasters and a bit of Peppa Pig mostly). Think i'll keep an eye on the forecast and see if things improve over the next 24 hours or so, haven't booked anything. They still give you the advance discount if you book before the park opens.

Just as a heads up, we visited last weekend and they have closed the normal disabled parking area as they are installing solar panels. They have coned off some spaces in the normal car park, I assume it is a temporary relocation of the spaces but not 100% sure.

A great update, that will stuff was interesting, with the low light levels that really adds to the experience. I like the outside. I just hope they do something with the garden centre lights.

Everything open at Paultons currently (I’m not there). Will see how the day goes but pretty much every time adverse weather is predicted it’s not as bad as suggested. Seems to be a trend, particularly with the BBC though I understand the need to be cautious rather than Michael Fish it.

Bit frustrating they keep doing that though and I’d be very annoyed as a park owner as presumably lots of people won’t risk trips based on those predictions.

Update 1: Grampy Sail is the first to fall! That’s actually my sons favourite so we made the right decision at least.

Went today instead and it was wonderful as always.

To not have to worry about RAP or queue times, just wander about and go on the rides you want, when you want. It’s everything I want in a theme park and so refreshing from the constant slot fighting and app monitoring of the Merlin parks.

Lots of nice Xmas theming. Nothing spectacular but quite a few photo points with characters which were fitting plus Peppa Xmas music.

Ops on Pterosaur were laughably bad but it didn’t matter in the slightest.

Storm Chaser was bliss after Winter Wonderlands ordeal so happily did 4 rides on that. Spinning coasters seen to be my sons new favourite which bodes well for Crush and Ride to Happiness next year.

Haunted Mansion looks cool, only got a glance but liking the Georgian mansion style.

Work underway in Viking world, nothing of note that hasn’t been mentioned but nice to see it.

Had to pay the on the day price despite booking at 8am, I thought you had till doors open but oh well, they earned it.

Edit: Forgot to say, I love the music volume at Paultons, not too loud, not too quiet, just right!

Sorry one last thing, I know i often mention the absurd height restriction of Storm Chaser but having 4 rides today it struck me how intense that final helix is.

I’d argue it’s equal to Swarm, which supposedly was the reason that ride is 1.4m. Is there any official data on the respective rides g forces for comparison?

Watching pre-schoolers going on will never cease to amaze me. Perhaps there’s more hope for something thrilling in CBeebies at AT than we anticipate 😂

Storm Chaser pulls a maximum of 3.3 G, The Swarm pulls 4.5 G. So really not equal in terms of measurable intensity.

That being said, Nemesis: Reborn reportedly only pulls a maximum of 3.5 G. Storm Chaser wouldn't be really far off that measurement.

A sustained 3.5 G is going to feel a lot stronger though than a 3.3 G spike.
