Phantasialand 2014: Chiapas

Re: Phantasialand

It does look pretty stunning! You know a ride is themed well when you're struggling to see the actual ride system amongst all of the theming! I suppose the downside to this theming is that it's taking them an eternity to build the thing, summer will be over by the time it's done!!

:)

Re: Phantasialand

As ever, spectacular theming from the park.

Shame it's running so behind - they will be lucky to have it open before the end of the school holidays at this rate.

Hopefully when it's complete you won't be able to see any of it! Someone on Phantasialand-Fans spotted this at the top of the final drop:

Now they might not be, but it looks like they are water outlets. Presumably, rather than just having show-water running down the channel they are actually going to pipe water over the ride, and surrounding theming to disguise it, similar to Poseidon at EP

If that happens then it'll look amazing :D

Also today, a crane appeared on site once more, this time lifting loads of bulk bags into the pool near the station.

No idea what's in them, as virtually everything else has arrived on site on pallets. Any suggestions?

Re: Phantasialand

I'd guess they contain either sand or stones to line the pool and/or create a beach effect.

Looks like this thing is finally starting to come together, and is already looking absolutely stunning. Hopefully they'll actually be able to open it before the end of summer...

Re: Phantasialand

This ride looks AMAZING! :D The theming detail is brilliant, love it.

Re: Phantasialand

Just a few close-up shots of the (nearly finished) facade and bridge work taking place on the far side of the area

It certainly adds some colour to the rock face, and breaks it up a bit :)

Also John, it looks like you were correct! The bulk bags do indeed contains rocks, which will no doubt be used in the base of the lake to make it look more natural :)

In other news, it seems like testing on the electrical components may have already started. If you look closely at the side of the lift you can just make out the lift moving.

Over the past few days they seem to have really picked up the pace again, with the facades and bridge flying up in no time. Hopefully this is a sign they're getting back on track and that the damn thing might open at some point this year :p

As always, all images and videos from Phantasialand-Fans

Re: Phantasialand

Well, the back side of the rock work replaces the old perimiter of Colorado Adventure, but essentially, yes. All one ride.

Re: Phantasialand

Oh my lord, that's incredible. At first I thought it was a full on water park or something.

Re: Phantasialand

This ride is dead to me. It seems like they deliberately slowed work on this so that it wouldn't be open in time for my visit. In fact, work seemed to be picking up pace just as I was leaving the park.

Re: Phantasialand

However it does look like it will be open for mine, Chris', Jordan's and Lottie's trip in 7 weeks 4 days! Lets just hope it's warm.

Re: Phantasialand

People shouldn't be surprised at the theming quality.

Phantasialand may not install major rides often, but they've always spent heavy on theming.

Just a shame all the money and theming can't buy the park any atmosphere or soul. Will be interesting to see if this ride does help with that as I find PhantasiaLand bait soulless

I honestly think you just went on a bad day. The park is magical. All the music and theming is amazing.

I went for two days, my opinion is it has some fantastic individual rides and within those rides it has some absolutely amazing theming. But the park as a whole just felt a bit soulless. Maybe it is just because it's so cramped but it just never enthralled me. The entrances are horrid and it has no centre-piece, which certainly doesn't help.

The only exception to that is the hotels which did have a lovely atmosphere and the Chinese area which i liked.

It's an odd one really as Chessington and Alton can only dream of Phantasia theming but they have more "soul" and "buzz" than PL. Just feel there is something missing in the parks coherence if any of that makes sense.

I also think Black Mamba is the most over-hyped roller coaster i have been on, other than the front row it is bland.

Re: Phantasialand

I've been to Phantasialand on three separate occasions now and two of those times I've absolutely adored the place. However, it was the latest trip which I felt that the place was lacking in as much atmosphere as I had remembered. Either the new rides are neutering the atmosphere, or it was just too busy, I'm not too sure, but I definitely wasn't feeling the same VIBES that I remember from earlier visits. I imagine that it was just crowd levels though.

On another note, Chiapas is looking stunning, but this time last year they had already started pretty major construction work. I don't think it's too long now until the ride actually will finally open, but it's already significantly late to open a 2013 ride.

Re: Phantasialand

On a busy day it can be hellish, but no more than any other park. But souless? I would rate PL above EP personally. It may not be the kind of holiday resort you could spend a week at like Europa, but for thrills (which is my main interest), there is no contest. And it has world class theming on top of that!

You say cramped, I say easy to navigate. ;)

Re: Phantasialand

I think the problem with Phantasialand is simple.

Don't go too much.

It's a lot smaller than many European parks, but obviously makes up for a lot of that with big theming. However, being so small, it's not a "destination" as much as PortAventura, Disney, Europa-Park and co. So you need to treat it carefully, or it becomes a little stale.

What there is, is impeccable (for the most part).

And the "thrills" argument at Phantasialand annoys me. People go on about these "thrills". There's Talocan which is out-and-out thrill, Black Mamba along the Nemesis Inferno level - and then frankly all of the rest is family thrill or family. Hardly a Thorpe Park mass of adrenalin heaven. There's dozens of other European parks with more "thrill" rides than Phantasialand!
