Phantasialand 2014: Chiapas

Re: Phantasialand

That is a seriously beautiful piece of art! Is it done by an inhouse team or done by a company like Joravision? If so does anyone know the company?

Re: Phantasialand

Wow that looks amazing! Still not going to get me back to the park, but seriously beautiful.

:)

:D :D :D

I think I just did a little sex wee!

We also have the first peeks of the boats

Not sure what exactly they're meant to be, but the general consensus on other sites seems to be that they are some form of Jeep. New theming suggests that the ride is an archaeological site, so it could be that the boats are meant to be Jeeps traveling around the site.

Can't say I'm crazy about that idea, but ho-hum.

A few decent views of them today. Considering how many boats there are going to be I'm quite impressed by the detail and quality of the theming on them, even if it isn't quite to my tastes

The seating arrangement looks bizarre. At least it has a backrest so you aren't in each others legs.

... Are they... Lapbars?!

Waaaaaaay back on page 2 I linked to the following image:

Here's another photo of the model, taken in the past week - spot the important difference:

So, opening in 2014 presumably.

Re: Phantasialand

There's not really much point in opening it this year now. They've completely missed the peak summer season. I've no idea why it's delayed as much as it has been but it is rather embarrassing. Heck it's starting to make The Smiler look like a successfully managed project!

:)

Re: Phantasialand

The delay is worse than The Smiler.

I do not understand how a log flume can have such problems.

Phantasialand only add rides of this scale every 5 years or so. In fact, this is the biggest physical ride since Black Mamba in 2006.

I fail to see why parks persist in buying water rides from manufacturers who clearly cannot deliver as is required. Here, we have a terribly delayed Intamin ride and we know the safety record of Intamin. Efteling persisted with Kumbak for DVH. Mack tbh.

Re: Phantasialand

All the 2013 signage on park has been covered or removed apparently.

Word going around is that the park are having issues with the ride, whereby boats either stay bone dry, or get completely drowned, and that the ride won't open until they find a balance and have it running right.

At the moment they're running boats with a variety of different weights, and you can see in the following video the effect it's having:

Yeah... Not the most consistent ride in the world it seems...

Re: Phantasialand

At least we know PL will persist and solve the issues eventually, rather than just get it open and say "that'll do".

Re: Phantasialand

So when the boat is heavier, the splash is bigger/works compared to a lighter one?

I for one, am shocked by this unexpected development...

That video is quite hilarious as to how the unladen boat trundles along into the turntable, whilst the laden one practically launches itself inside...

Hardly.

See Colorado in the rain.

This ride opening must be ruining their annual financial figures.

Re: Phantasialand

Isn't that an issue with most tyre drive lift hills though?

*Glares in the direction of work* Yes, Yes it is!

Tyre drive lift hills are a nightmare in the rain, however in the case of Phantasialand, it's the only real option due to the noise limitations as we all know :(

Any tyre driven ride can have issues during rain, I was on Buccaneer once and it slipped/skidded off the tyre mid-ride at one point...

Just an unfortunate factor in the design of such rides...

Re: Phantasialand

Th13teen manages in the rain on tire driven hills.

Don't buy a ride system with naturally heavy trains in a relatively wet climate and demand a lift hill system that can't cope... Just stupid planning really.

Pegasus also manages.

There is a solution to tyre driven hills, though.

Chains.

Re: Phantasialand

Could they not build some kind of shelter over the lift hills to sort this problem out? Even some basic slightly themed shelter!

But tyre hills are a boon for parks that need a quiet ascent, trouble is PL tried to employ this method with a heavy train.

Re: Phantasialand

I do kind of wonder if they might revise those lifts in the future, now that they have essentially built a giant sound screen beside them. They could even look at using a rollback system similar to the one on Expedition Everest, which doesn't make a sound (Anyone who's ridden Big Thunder Mountain in Paris will appreciate how bloody loud Vekoma Mine Train lifts are normally!).

They've already gone back to Colorado and replaced some of the supports for them to fit around Chiapas, and added a bit of theming to one of the sheds, so maybe they'll continue trying to improve it.

Re: Phantasialand

I really shouldn't but I had to laugh at the video showing the difference in ride experience based on weight of the boat. This is surely a fundamental part of planning a water attraction? Working out the speed/splash impact of the boats based on their load?

Looks like Intamin & Phantasialand have got their work cut out to make things consistent. I for one will be avoiding a "fat boat" should I visit with TST folk ;)

Re: Phantasialand

Considering that their old flume actually grounded on the bottom of the trough and stopped dead when I went on it, I'd say this is still an improvement.
