Phantasialand 2014: Chiapas

Re: Phantasialand

Wonderful updates guys - thanks obviously to the Phantasialand fansite for their efforts in obtaining them!

I'm really looking forward to this. Knowing the level of intricate detail that Phantasialand invest, this will be an absolute corker!

For some reason I hadn't appreciated the scale of the project.. its absolutely gigantic!

Re: Phantasialand

Quick question, will the Chiapas area be opening at the same time as Phantasialand itself next year or will it be opening at a later date? I'm really impressed by the scale of construction and model!

Re: Phantasialand

From what I can find on Phantasialand Fans it's supposed to open in June. Hopefully before the 16th! :p

In other news, I know some members are off to Phanny this weekend. I expect PICTURES!!!!!

Re: Phantasialand

It seems fairly standard at PL to open major additions later on in the year, typically May/June time. That said, I wouldn't be surprised if it was finished early that they tried a soft launch, like they did with Maus, even if it was just the surrounding areas and not the ride itself :)

I have to say, I'm very impressed with how well this is coming on, and the fact that so far they've managed to keep Colorado Adventure open during the work is brilliant, given its proximity to the building work!

I'm amazed Colorado Adventure is open too! I was there December 20th and 21st and it was bizarre to see the construction team working under the track with no safety netting to catch loose articles. I'm sure it would never pass H&S here! Glad it was open though as it was my first visit and it really is a 'Phantastic' ride

Re: Phantasialand

Well, this seems to blow my last idea out of the water!

Don't know why there's such a huge depth of water under the trough here though?

Some clearance issues here? :p

This looks great tbh, like Sammy I'm a massive fan of water rides, especially well themed ones. :D

Re: Phantasialand

Ride takes up loads of space. Hopefully it'll stop the current guest flow around the park which is difficult to navigate!

Re: Phantasialand

I think that's part of the master plan, to make the whole park easier to navigate. It's a bit random to say the least, but apparently the Berlin re-design was part of the plan. The idea is to have branches too to each of the main park areas I believe.

Re: Phantasialand

I dread to say it but some of the parks cutesy / family feel has been slightly eroded because they've been removing so much. The old 1001 Nights ride was great, for example but they persist with rubbish like Hollywood and Temple.

A lot of the smaller, older rides is what gives many of our European parks a certain charm.

Phantasialand just have no space and the lack of attractions is all too apparent at times.

Re: Phantasialand

Surely Hollywood Tour and Temple are next on the list for redevelopment? The boat ride hardware itself is fine, it just needs new scenery and a retheme. As for the coaster on top of it... Melt it down and turn it in to coke cans for all I care. The building is vast and could be reused for something new and, dare I say it, actually fun?
The only problem I can see is working the supports round the boat ride. Am I right in thinking that Nighthawk actually sits on a frame like a portable coaster, which is then supported on thick girders that go down through Hollywood Tour?

I would be very sad to see Silbermine and Rikshaw go. They may be dated but they are still good dark rides.

Re: Phantasialand

All Silbermine, Hollywood Tour, and Rikshaw need is the technology renewing. They're all great rides, but they need some investment and updating to improve them. Nighthawk could be a great ride if they bothered to put anything in it :p It's in an area with exhaustive potential for re-themes, so they can't use that excuse. That said, if it does go I'd rather see another coaster in its place, just as another filler. The only way they'll get away with anything major in that side of the park is by enclosing it.

Re: Phantasialand

I also see Nighthawks potential. I can't work out why I found it average and everyone else a complete borefest. Maybe I didn't imagine the on-ride music that I swear I heard at the time and that's what made it more enjoyable? Either way I agree with Ian that if they actually themed the ride it could be a great filler.

Re: Phantasialand

Silbermine, Rikshaw, Hollywood Tour and Nighthawk all need a bulldozer ploughing through them, they're beyond redemption.

Re: Phantasialand

Silbermine is on a par to me with Fata Morgana, a ride everyone seems to fap over. Both are a slow trudge past scenes with no real story. The only difference is the transit system.
I would argue that Silbermine is the best dark ride at PL. (I'm being picky here and counting Mystery Castle as a thrill ride, not a dark ride).

Besides, how many rides let you sit back and chill for a good ten minutes, while still having great throughput?

Re: Phantasialand

Actually I feel Rikshaw and Hollywood Tour could be redeemed with entirely new sets and scenes! A complete overhaul of them both, but the ride systems could stay tbh, as their is nothing really wrong with them! I mean you only have to look at Phantom Manor and Pirates of the Caribbean to prove that :p

Silbermine... Could possibly be alright with new sets, if only they could speed up the damn transit system, it is just far far too slow! That said, new sets that were much smaller and intimate than the current ones could solve that problem by giving you much much more to look at in the incredibly long journey ;)

Nighthawk however... Kill it! Kill it with Fire! (In true Phantasialand style, while on the phone to a ride manufacturer confirming its replacement! ;)) Seriously, even with added theming, audio and lights, the ride is still DIRE. It is too long and far far too slow to gain any sort of force etc. Seriously, I thought it was going to stall at points when I rode it on Sunday just gone!

Re: Phantasialand

Good Lord. Did I just read Diogo that you rate Silber Mine equal to Fata Morgana?

Fata is superb.

Re: Phantasialand

One is a tow boat, the other is a continuous chain of cars (not an omnimover as the cars do not turn ;) ). Otherwise there is little difference to me. It's slow and you look at things.

I'm not saying "Silbermine is as amazing as Fata" ... I'm saying "Fata is as boring as Silbermine".

..on-ride audio?? The only possible explanation I have is that you may be suffering from a form of tinnitus? ;)!

As far as I recall, I've never heard music in the building for/on the trains of Temple of the Nighthawk, and on a few occasions, there's been no hawk either! They have sound effects in the station but they're not really worth mentioning.

The new construction photos for Chipas look fantastic :D really can't wait to see meat on the bones. I wouldn't think there would be a clearance issue... bit of an engineering fail if so!!
