Phantasialand 2014: Chiapas

Re: Phantasialand

The only things which I can spot different between this and the ABC model is the sides of the channel.

index.php

The sides here are smooth.

Whereas here we have the braces along the side. Also, the running rails look a lot narrower on the ABC one.

ABC could have changed their design of course.

The channel doesn't look very deep or wide though like The Flume, and I can't imagine Mack have changed that much over the years.

But guess who makes a near identical channel...

HAFEMA! The people who bought us River Quest :D

If it is by them then it can only be a good thing.

Note the last two points. If this is having a very steep drop I can see lapbars pottentially appearing personally. Also, single cockpit boats. They even offer it with dry loading like River Quest, which could be possible give the station looks like it'll be fairly concealed.

I reckon it's them you know :D

Packs Rain Mack

Are Phantasialand not content with the amount on mental water ride that they already have!!

On a more serious note though! I really think you have hit the nail on the head there Ian! It should be a decent ride, but dry loading a boat with wheels sound umm... Interesting.

I'll just start fearing for my life now ;)

Re: Phantasialand

Hey, it can't be anymore dangerous than the old Rocky Mountain Rapids loading turntable. Someone at BCM forgot to add a catch net, so if you fell in and got caught between the paddles your lower half would drop down to the fixed metal structure and catch while you were turning... You can no doubt imagine what would happen next...

It was only Intamin who decided to put one in when they refurbed it towards the end of its life :p

I'd have thought dry loading with wheels would be easier if I'm honest. I'd imagine a channel raised out of the water, with kickers or a conveyor inside it. This drives the boat along, and riders board it from a protective guard/step on the side so they can't get their feet under the wheels :p

I doubt it'll be a station the same as River Quest, where the boats hop out of the water and the whole station floor slides along :p

Drop track close up, track geeks... Analyse ;)

Is it me or does that look a bit... bent? The channel in the foreground is clearly at a different angle to the drop in the background!

Re: Phantasialand

To me it also looks slightly lower as well as if it rises again just after the drop.

How wet are the other Hafema Rides?

Because I've ridden two of their rapids: River Quest which is one of the wettest Rapids I've come across and Waschzuber-Rafting which is the driest rapids I've ever been on. Admittedly that was also their oldest design and before they started going crazy but that still leaves me unsure as to what to expect from them.

I'm interested in this picture tbh. It looks like there is a pathway under the camelback "hop", audience interaction? :p

EDIT: Just saw this on their FB page:

Through the wonder of some dodgy google translate, it seems to just talk about the scenery but the last paragraph says that there will be a new tapas bar and ice cream parlour for you to watch the ride from. Sounds great if I'm honest!

Re: Phantasialand

So...the text in the upper picture says :

-- A ride experience on 5 different heigth levels !
-- Ride duration is more than 6 Minutes !
-- Three drops, one of them backwards
-- Including a one of a kind for Europa camelback !
-- The steepest drop worldwide on a logflume with 53 degrees

The meaning of the text in the lower picture :

"Embedded in a phantastic scenery of streams of water, thousands of plants and impressive rocks, Chiapas is gonna lead you through mysterious caves and mystic temple complexes with surprising elements.

Directly connected to this impressive scenery will be the charming and authentical mexican village. From there the spacius terrace of the snack restaurant will offer a great view over the whole new area including Chiapas !

In the heart of the new area you can enjoy the specialities of the tapas bar...the Slush Shop close to the sea area of Chiapas offers refreshing drinks. The ice shop will offer delicious creations made of fruit, nuts, vanilla...and of course the "gold of the aztecs" cacao !

Experience Mexico the way it really is : Colorful, spicy and full of life !"

That`s is guys...hope this was of interest :)

Re: Phantasialand

Nice to see Talocan will no longer be the only ride in Mexico.

Theming work is already beginning! Looks set to be up to Phantasialand's usual hand crafted standards :D

The park are also working into the night from to looks of it. What is it with 2013 rides and massive underground pits? :p

Any guesses as to what this is? Trommel perhaps? Or just a water pipe? Hard to tell! :p

All images from Phantasialand Fans de.

In other news it looks as if the old Phantasialand Jet station has finally bit the dust, more or less removing any trace it ever existed :(

Re: Phantasialand

The council as approved the extension plan today.

You can read article here and here

So the extension for 10 years is now planned, and this is what it will be :

Re: Phantasialand

Looks good, although I'm sure my opinion will change once I actually go there.

Slightly disappointed to find out the "Lagerhallen" is warehouse instead of a large hall full of alcohol.

Re: Phantasialand

*Sorry for the double post*
It looks like Chiapas is definitely an Intamin contraption:

Some other pics of the construction:

This looks like one of the turntables for the backwards section!

ROCKWORK!

There's a bit of debate about whether these are water pumps or for air circulation on the Phantasialand forum these are from!

This is of course not mentioning the main "lake" area at the bottom that they haven't started yet!

Frankly, I can't wait. :D

Re: Phantasialand

All mine and Ian's track detective work on the last page, just for it to be an Intamin after all... Meet, not happy!

Sensible head now though, this ride is seriously looking to be amazing! I honestly can't wait to see it open next year, I would say it just my 2nd most anticipated project for next season, shortly after SW7. I do love me a fantastically themed water ride, almost as much as a coaster!

This really could be set to be Europe's answer to Splash Mountain, seeing as Paris still haven't got one :(

So it's going to interact with Colorado Adventure as well?!

Maybe they are going to get round to theming inside the warehouse? :p

Again, from Phantasialand Fans

[EDIT: BTW, I have just cherry-picked images here! The thread linked above has some other great pictures of the construction!]

Re: Phantasialand

You guys go on about that warehouse as if it's Air's Tunnel ;)

It never really bothered me as it is fairly dark and not exactly a mood breaker, but I'm glad to see it might be getting a good theme along with some ride crossover time.

Re: Phantasialand

It wasn't so dark earlier this year :p It looked dreadful! It really is the PL version of the Air tunnel!

In fairness that's only because it had a massive great gash in the side - if memory serves me correctly (it rarely does), it was indeed fairly dark before this development started.

Re: Phantasialand

Just a thought here, we know it will have a backwards section and I think we're all assuming the it will go backwards down the little drop and into the turntable/switch and go forward.

post-235-0-94426900-1356014074_thumb.jpg

Based on the height of the drop (look at the size of the man in the hole), what if you go forwards into the switch and then backwards down this little drop?

Re: Phantasialand

Note how the concrete gully seems to curve as well, and how the drop looks more like rails than a solid drop. sweeping drop into the pit like a coaster section?
