Phantasialand 2014: Chiapas

Re: Phantasialand

I was being a twit :p That bit of track is gone now :)

I hope they don't do anything rash before I get a chance to experience these...attractions!

There's a few more pics on Phanny fans, but they're much the same as before. Apparently there was quite of bit of the rockwork being done today. Exciting!

:D

Re: Phantasialand

There is ride audio played on speakers in several places, however, you don't hear it all the time.

Silbermine is on a par to me with Fata Morgana, a ride everyone seems to fap over. Both are a slow trudge past scenes with no real story. The only difference is the transit system.

Diogo, do you reckon there's even a single person on this forum who doesn't think that your posting this just because of your recent meltdown at Efteling over them not selling any cancer sticks in a children's theme park? :p

You're just in a bad mood at Efteling, so posting something facetious like this. Silvermine is utterly tedious and falling apart, while Fata Morgana remains one of the most spectacular and sumptuous rides in Europe. To compare the two is like comparing the Fat Duck to a KFC.

Re: Phantasialand

Why is it that people seem to think every time I voice an opinion, I am just being an arse for the sake of it?

Re: Phantasialand

I thought it was just me ;D

(Er to clarify, that think I'm being an arse, not that I think you are dude lol!!)
:D

Re: Phantasialand

I know I'm something of a dark ride philistine but, I think I'm one of the few people on this forum that doesn't think Silbermine is complete rubbish. Aside from the ride system being far too slow it's a perfectly acceptable dark ride. The final scene in particular is on a pretty grand scale.

For me it's far better than either Hollywood Tour or Geister Ricksha.

Remember mate, daring to go against the view of the majority and have independant thought makes you a troll round these parts. ::)

Re: Phantasialand

Silber Mine is the only dark ride I can genuinely say I have spent 90% of it snoozing with my eyes closed.

I find it utterly boring and a waste of a massive chunk of space.

Hahaha! ;D

Think I'm generally a little past caring about others opinions of me dude, I like naked roller coasters too, it's a sin apparently ;D

Because you seem to have suddenly acquired this view, which I've never heard you express before, only days after your very public declaration of hatred for Efteling? Given that this topic isn't about Efteling and nobody had even brought Fata Morgana up, I think it's pretty obvious to everyone. ::)

Knew I wasn't going completely mad. They must of had the volume up that day although I won't rule out the tinnitus.

Silbermine I thought was fairly interesting, although I've only done it once. I also discovered that some of the animatronics use an infra-red beam to spot if there are people in the cart so if you ride without anyone else in front of you there are a few Duel like moments when things happen unexpectedly.

I don’t really think speed is the issue either as these rides are meant to be long mass throughput machines. What’s missing is enough detail to keep you interested when you are crawling past the massive set pieces.

Re: Phantasialand

For anyone like me who has a bit of a fascination with Winja's Fear and Force, I've just found this amazing article by 'Coasters and More'. It goes through, in detail, a typical morning inspection for the coaster, and contains loads of interesting info and behind-the-scenes pictures. Well worth a read :D

Godelbahn 1001 Nacht: 1970 - 2009

For anyone who has never seen it, here's a video POV of the now removed Gondelbahn 1001 Nacht attraction which closed in 2009.

The ride, manufactured by Schwarzkopf (along with much of the early Phantasialand) opened in 1970 - just three years after the park - and was Germany's first major dark ride attraction. It opened some 11 years before Geister Rickshaw, 14 years before Silber Mine and 20 years before Hollywood Tour. Since then, many of the parks classic Schwarzkopf rides have closed, including the Gebirgsbahn and Grand Canyon Bahn - both of which were destroyed by a serious fire in 2001, the Phantasialand Jet (monorail) in 2008 and the Spider (closed 1985). Only Geister Rickshaw and Silber Mine now remain of the parks classic Schwarzkopf quota.

Although some of the parks Schwarzkopf attractions are now considered old/boring/other (i.e. Silber Mine) - they were not all like this.

Gondelbahn 1001 Nacht has been replaced by the new Kaiserplatz Square, which features the Waveswinger and Maus au Chocolat. The development of the parks new square came at quite a cost - with the removal of both Gondelbahn 1001 Nacht and Walzertraum (boat ride), together with the Brandenburg Tor - which was the parks iconic emblem down the old Berlin street.

Fata Morgana, at Efteling, goes someway to preserving the legacy of this ride - and it could be argued takes many influences from it.

Re: Phantasialand

Meh, Black Mamba's good, I wouldn't say amazing...

... Now Temple of the Nighthawk ;) :p

Re: Phantasialand

It's tame, sure. But visually everything in that park is perfect. Even TotNH beats anything we have in the UK.

Good luck with that :p From the ropey translation I could make on PLFans the park have banned any images from being released until the park opens for the new season!

Re: Phantasialand

That explains the lack of updates then. I thought it was just me forgetting :p
