PortAventura: General Discussion

This dark ride has been in the planning for quite a long time. I first heard about it 4-5 years ago so it has been a long time coming!

This is something the park really needs so I'm looking forward to seeing what they do.
 
PAWave's post implies it will be created or themed by TAA Industries (Theming and Animatronics), the group behind the theming for The Dungeon's, Legoland Parks, Sealife and a few previous attractions at PortAventura. From the looks of their previous projects PortAventura's new dark ride could be very impressive although I do have a feeling it could be an interactive laser type ride.

Day of the Fans
Today PortAventura Park opened for the 2016 season with the annual event 'Day of Fans', the presentation saw three major Spanish PortAventura fan websites officially open the Park for the year, followed buy a special show including 2016 highlights, songs and new experiences.

Records de PortAventura - Refurbishment
PortAventura's headline store in Mediterrania has been fully gutted and re-designed for the 2016 season to reflect the new branding, replacing the quite simple white and terracotta interior with bright colours, prints and new modern feel.

Not sure that would work well lining up Towers fan sites next to each other to open the park though....:D

Chaos broke out at the opening of Alton Towers new season today, as two rival fansites, invited to open the park, clashed violently. Chants of "CITATION NEEDED", and "YOUR PLANE IS CRAP!" were followed by fights involving minions and Alton Towers' brand new world beating attraction "FORRRRRRBIDEEEEEEEN SWEEEEEEEEEP"

Nick Varney was asked to quote, but he was unavailable for comment and was last seen running towards Guest Services.

Things eventually calmed down, though small skirmishes broke out between fansites and fences, with excessive finger pointing, looks of disgust, and bellowing at the HSE continuing long into the evening.

A few news updates from the Resort from the opening weekend press conference at Vinosfera:

Cirque Du Soleil will return in 2017
It was originally believed that the new Cirque Du Soleil show 'Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities' would be make its debut at PortAventura in 2016, however PortAventura revealed today that the next Cirque Du Soleil show isn't planned until summer 2017.

Contactless Wristbands at Costa Caribe Aquatic Park
A new way to pay at Costa Caribe. Hopefully solving one of the main problems I've found with visiting Waterparks being that when you want to purchase food or merchandise, you have to go back to your locker to get your wallet to walk all the way back to the restaurant or shop, and then do it all over again on the way back. In PortAventura's case, that can be quite the trek since they've expanded the Waterpark, with the lockers being in the Gran Caribe all the way by the Park entrance.

The new wristband will allow guests to purchase food, drinks and merchandise without having to return to their locker or sun lounger.

Tutuki Splash Renovation
Over the closed season Tutuki Splash has received a little TLC with the volcano now erupting throughout the day with smoke and mist. An effect that hasn't worked in many years.

PortAventura World CD.
PAWave announced that a new 2016 CD will be released in the Records de PortAventura store in April, with the latest music from around the Resort. Something I'm sure I will be buying in the future ;)

Revolution debut at the Gran Teatre Imperial
Saturday saw the first performance of the new major show at PortAventura Park, although I've tried to avoid videos of the show as I will be seeing it later this year, it has been revealed that the whole stage has been fully projection mapped. Unfortunately I have also heard the new song for the show which will no doubt be played around the Park, it has got to be the worst piece of music ever created, awful.
 
Hi guys, sorry to change the subject a bit. I'm going to Salou from the 5th - 10th Aug for my sister's b'day and we will visiting PortAventura for a few days.
Saz advised me yesterday to get a queue jumping wrist band. I've looked on-line and I've found some kind of email address on their site. Is this the only way to buy a wrist band before I go? Or would it be easier to buy the park tickets now and the wrist band when we get there?

You won't necessarily need Express Pass's, it's not as mad as some people on here make it out to be. The cheapest way is to book your Park tickets through the PortAventura website and then you visit, you can buy PortAventura Express from many locations around the Park, if you wanted to. :)
 
No Cirque Du Soleil in 2016? That's a shame. I wonder why they're not having any shows this year, I know they're busy although given how popular the shows have been in 2014/15 I would have thought they would return this year. At least it will be back in 2017 I guess.

Does this mean it's getting Skyrush style trains or is it going down to just 2 seats per row? I can't find any good pictures of Skyrush's trains without the wheel covers to be able to tell if the outside seats are bolted on or if it's one solid piece. Either way, it's an interesting development!

The wings don't look bolted on and the middle seats in these new photos aren't raised up at all in comparison. Looks like a straight 2-seater unless Intamin have changed their train design since Flying Aces

I really hope they're not removing the winged trains. Is this a rumour or an official replacement? I've not heard anything.
 
I'm sceptical; where is that location in the photos? Is it at an Intamin factory? That warehouse looks far too big for Bacos, plus it looks like the orange metal structure to the right is more track, possibly inverted
 
Changing the trains to one seat per row would be sheer madness. The throughput is bad enough as it is (and I don't even find the outside seats that painful anyway).

Surely they could find ways of making the trains smoother? I mean back in 2007 when the ride first opened it wasn't even rough. When I returned in 2009 my reaction was "what the hell has happened to this ride?!" :D

While you may not find the outside seats painful, many others seem to and it's probably more a case of the train shaking itself apart and causing fractures in the chassis than issues of comfort

The current trains are running with just 18 seats in use whereas the new photo appears to show a standard 20 seat train, which would actually increase capacity slightly. In theory, they could probably put a 24 seat 6 car train on, as I think the current trains were modelled on the standard chassis.

Whilst getting new trains could make the ride far less unpleasant, it wouldn't solve the underlying problem of it being incredibly bland.
 
But where has this come from? Who has said they're for Baco? I find it unlikely because I'd have thought if anything they would replace them with the Skyrush style trains.
