PortAventura: General Discussion

Bars are a central part of resort stays for me and I am a pretty seasoned traveller. Needless to say, there was no mention or evidence of this bar when we visited last time so either it was closed or simply not advertised. I will make an effort to look when I visit in a fortnight.

If you walk in the front and go past reception, the lift and toilets, its straight ahead of you.

It will be most interesting to compare this hotel with Krønasår at Europa-Park, which opens around the same time. Both are, in theory, the same standard. Good to see the European parks adding high end hotels.

PortAventura's Hard Rock Hotel and Entertainment World
to begin construction early 2019!

The Spanish newspaper TaragonaDigital have today released that the new hotel and entertainments district coming to Salou in partnership with PortAventura World and Hard Rock will begin construction next year! I personally can't wait for this, it'll be a great addition to the resort, adding another layer of entertainment after the parks close. Fabulouuuuuuuussss!

The link below is the third of the collaborating companies, 'Value Retail' which will be building the shopping district section of the project. Looking at their portfolio, it's anything but value!
https://www.thebicestervillageshoppingcollection.com/en/value-retail/

"The works to raise the macrocomplex of Hard Rock entertainment on the Costa Daurada will begin during the first six months of next year, 2019 , as said Mayor of Salou, Pere Granados . The mayor affirms that he knows the project in detail, and that the intention is that the complex will begin to rise between the months of May and June , although it is not ruled out that the works could be advanced."

"Phase 1 will be the construction of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Tarragona integrated resort. Hard Rock will collaborate with PortAventura World to develop a family-oriented, guitar-shaped Hard Rock Hotel with 600 guestrooms spread across approximately 1.7 million square meters of space. Hard Rock will also partner with Value Retail on a tourism shopping mall of approximately $108,000 square feet, which will have more than 75 shops. PortAventura World and Value Retail have always supported the possible development of a complementary integrated resort on the land adjacent to PortAventura World, across from it's Caribe and El Paso hotels."

Good to hear this is finally happening, although I’m still intrigued as to the constant addition of hotel rooms to a resort which shutters some of its existing hotels for six months a year.

I guess the branding for this will help it stand on its own, apart from PA itself. Is it intended to form part of the PA resort?

Yes, it's part of PortAventura World, just like the Hard Rock Hotel at Universal Orlando. Instead of being run by Loews this one will be run by PortAventura.

Surely being able to do ANYTHING after park close is an improvement?

The entertainment options in the PA hotel were especially poor, especially when you consider the lack of connection to the western one(s) where most evening stuff takes place...

I've just read an article by Blooloop which said that every 1 in 3 people who visit PortAventura stay in a PortAventura hotel and that the occupancy rates are the highest they've ever been. I'm guessing this will have something to do with the construction of new hotels.

In other hotel related news it's been announced that Hotel Colorado Creek will join Hotel Gold River, Hotel 'The Callaghan's', Hotel Mansion De Lucy and Hotel PortAventura in remaining open for the Winter Season leaving only Hotel Caribe and Hotel El Paso as Summer Season hotels.

I guess that's because the hotels are very good value considering the perks you get for staying on site. Still quite surprising though considering how many dirt cheap apartments there are in Salou.

PA hotels are really good value compared to most theme park resorts in Europe. There are regular promotions, free fastrack in some and cheap park entry or park entry included as standard. I would use the phrase 'pile them high, sell them cheap' - in that, they make money by sheer volume rather than price per head. For example, its easily 40% cheaper for a 4 night break at Gold River and tickets than, say, Phantasialand. That said, Spain in general is much cheaper than France and Germany.

It seems to work for them and certainly helps with foreign tourists. The impact of falling British visitors in 2019 will be interesting.

The main issue at PA for me is the evening activities (which isn't an issue May-August when park is open very late, or peak weekends), which Hard Rock Hotel would help massively, and the disconnect around the resort.

When I stayed at gold river last year, It’s the only hotel in the world I’ve been to where I’ve probably queued just as long to check in as I have for the rides on park.
Sounds like most of our holidays at PortAventura, we actually dread what might be when we go to check in :tearsofjoy:

It doesn't surprise me that 1 in 3 people that visit PA stay at the resort hotels as there are a couple of very
good reasons why. First of all after a long day in the theme park it is very nice to know you are within touching distance of your hotel, but the main reason for me has to be the Express unlimited wristband. If you pay per day is 54 euro, but if you stay at a PA hotel it's 70 euro for the length of your stay. Our last visit was 9 nights which meant that we had 10 days express at just 7 euro per day!!

On another note we have booked with British Airways holidays for next September, again 9 nights, at El Paso for just £900 including flights!!! :)

I was under the impression that was a standard policy for ALL hotel bars at PA? Can't have those bloody English tourists getting drunk in Spain!

With all the new developments coming to PortAventura in the near future, I thought I'd take to Google Maps to see where things are going and what space they have to expand on from above. It's only a rough overview but it shows even with the latest developments there's still a lot of room for expansion. The only project that hasn't had its location announced yet is the new Dream Village.

Nice map but if the water park expansion was to happen they'd have to create a new car park (or a multi-story). Given the size of the main park and the 2 other gates I'm surprised it's large enough as it is.

They've just built some new car parks up past Gold River where Cirque Du Soleil usually is, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the expansion land would become new car parks too. I've always thought it looked like PA didn't have much parking but I guess most of their guests are either on holiday there or staying at the hotels so there's not as many people travelling by car.

I was surprised to see how advanced constrction of this was the other week, it is also bigger than I expexted. Hopefully it might have a bar that opens and a restaurant that serves hot food, but I know that is asking a lot.
