Potential New Universal UK Park

Recovered my old account on here just to talk about this, hope it goes ahead! I had a random dream they announced it would go ahead, but it wouldn't have any Harry Potter stuff due to the proximity to the WB Studios Tour. Stupid dream, but it did make me wonder if having the WB Studios would make a HP land here more or less likely?

I also keep hearing about how the plot of land is huge enough for two parks, hotel, shopping area etc, but every time I see the drone footage my brain tells me it's pretty small. Is the size being exaggerated in all these YouTube videos or is it actually big enough for say, an Islands of Adventure size park with all the show buildings etc.

The drone shots make it look misleadingly small. If you do measurements on Google Earth it falls completely in line with the size of the Florida Parks. The whole lot is pretty much the same acreage as the bigass parcel of land Universal got for Epic Universe.

I read an article online today regarding Universals and Comcast profits and they are down?

Can anyone confirm this? Or have more information?

Not sure where you read that? Net Income (known as Net Profit in the UK) for the last financial year and Q1 2024 were up YOY for Comcast. Same for revenue, same for Operating Income (Operating Profit).

GAAP financial reporting principles, although termed and laid out differently in the states, are pretty standardised internationally and their accuracy is enshrined in law. So I would recommend going to the company itself if you are looking for more information. This can be found here https://www.cmcsa.com/financials/annual-reports

Happy reading!

The Parks Division had a slight dip (which they were expecting after post-covid boost) so that's probably what he saw and thought it meant Comcast/Universal as a whole lost money.

Also, funnily enough, when you spend undisclosed millions on land your profit might take a bit of a dip.

Profit slipping means diddly squat, if a company is actively investing and expanding. Profit slipping when a company is spending the bare minimum, to keep things ticking over, is when it's time to start panicking.

Comcast has 3 definite parks/attractions in the pipeline and another waiting for the rubber stamp. A slight dip probably won't even register to the Comcast higher ups, they know that in a year or so they'll be swimming in cash. All we need is that between now and June they don't get cold feet.

Considering that Japan have a Universal park with a Harry Potter themed area in Osaka and a Warner Bros Studio Tour in Tokyo, I'd highly doubt it is less likely.

It'd be a win for all parties if there is a Harry Potter themed area in Universal Studios Great Britain as people will certainly visit both especially international tourists.

The park will also need unique area's to distinguish it from the Florida parks. Regardless of if there is a Harry Potter area then potential of Lord of the Rings area is huge and what excits me the most of the rumours are true.

The Northern Parcel with it's lakes and restoration area is primed for a LOTR area. You can do a Fantastical Worlds type theme for the second gate up there.

I am so excited for this project! After visiting orlando for the first time ever last year, its clear to see that Universal (and Disney) are just on another level to current UK theme parks!

Really hope this goes ahead

And on the Harry Potter issue, i actually think Universal may go without the HP IP in a UK park, Because if they did have a HP land then wouldn't that mean brits thinking of going to their Orlando park would be far less likely to go?

I don't buy the brits won't go to Orlando cos they have HP at home theory. Brits aren't holidaying in Florida (well most Brits) just because they have HP, they're going for multiple reasons - weather, Disney, Universal etc etc. Universal could clone their greatest hits and there still wouldn't be a noticeable hit to Brits holidaying in Orlando.

As it is, there's going to be no cloned rides/attractions so even if they do HP, the rides will be different from the Florida Parks so there's still an appeal there.

Families who can afford Orlando will still go to Orlando but it seems like a more exclusive group than maybe 10-15 years ago. What once was achievable for many with hard saving is now too expensive. I've seen so many posts saying how they can't afford Orlando but it would be a dream come true to take thier kids to one over here. I would assume it's the same for many families in Europe as well.

Copied from Universal Forum:

Interesting to read about Earl the squirrel & Boo The Pumpkin by the sounds of it!

I know nothing has been confirmed still, but bringing these to a meeting at a school to tell them about opportunities etc is adding even more fuel to the fire!

The cute little pumpkin, and a squirrel without a jumper or pants, told them about the proposed types of restaurants at the proposed Universal site?

What on earth are these people taking and, most importantly, can they please share?

Noticed the size of the hotel has gone from 500 rooms to 800. Probably a good idea especially if it's the only hotel on site for a while. It's still sounding very positive
