Scarefest 2024

It’s great to see the hearse back with smoke and light affects it looks great, Even though I think the dungeons is a wasted family attraction because it’s marketed a lot younger than darkest depths was but it does brighten up the area and looks a lot better than the exterior of Trick O Treat town. As for the compound it does look a tad rushed/cheap from the outside, however it is just signage and is not the main exterior of the maze. Hopefully it will look a lot better inside but there is potentially could be like survival grounds vibe? As For Daz games I’m not even gonna comment on this, they should have just left the construction walls up as that honestly looks far better in my opinion. From what I can see Alton Mine Tours and burial grounds still has the best exterior signage and theming on the outside, lighting looks to be a big improvement this year which is great to see!

I think with Hex opening, Burial grounds returning, One new scare maze for us elders and forbidden valley coming alive at night with all of its themed lighting and effects and The curse at night. It does give the event abit more spark than previous years I would say.

Nice informative video from Towers about Scarefest, which confirms a 5pm close for Cebebies Land.

Also:

- Maze tickets can be purchased from the Forbidden Valley Guest Services Hub as well as the Towers Street Box Office.
- All paid scare attractions have Ride Acess Pass entrances this season, and you do not need a prebook to access them (just show your photocard with your tickets).
- No full-face makeup allowed this year, along with masks.

Further operational cuts it seems, unsure of the popularity of CBeebies post 5pm but still.
I think the fact CBeebies is being closed two hours earlier doesn't make much of a difference, and I'm surprised it hadn't been attempted already. The area really drops off after 4pm, and is a ghost town by 4:30. The shows, Get Set Go and the play park closed around 5/6pm in previous years anyway. A lot of the performers will work dual shifts on the scare attractions, and as we've seen them post for hiring scare actors in the past couple of weeks, it suggests they're severely short-staffed anyways.

What's almost surprising is that they haven't followed through with deeper cuts in Walliams and Mutiny Bay, not suggesting they should do that. But odds are those attractions would be equally as quiet, if not quieter than CBeebies would have been.

A note on Compound's entrance, the right side of the queue is the main queue and the left side is toilet access and RAP. They've kept the through-route to the GW loos which is good. Was confusing last night but hopefully they'll be adding signage today ready for tomorrow.

That feels like a positive change, and it definitely seems to make it easier for people who qualify for RAP to enter.

Although given the maze access is meant to be within a timeslot for everyone, in theory the main queue shouldn't be long anyway. Also I would have thought those who cannot queue for 30-60 minutes to enter the maze, would find the enclosed spaces inside the maze an issue anyway? (to add, not saying people who need RAP shouldn't do scare mazes, more curiosity on the issue)

It might be because all mazes apart from Attic and Mine Tours (due to them being located in the towers) are being advertised as suitable for wheelchairs this year.

Given that 4 of the mazes (not the Towers based ones, obviously) are then mentioned to be wheelchair friendly they've clearly made some effort for it.

Of course being in a long standing queue isn't necessarily the same as dark, enclosed spaces with jump scares. Disability is a weird thing in that regard.

If Liseberg can do disabled friendly mazes. At least allegedly so (the Zombie one having squishy floor in pitch black wasn't suitable for anyone).
