Shanghai Disneyland

Little bit of a Shanghai update. An opening date is still not confirmed by Disney, the last they said was Spring 2016. Apparently Bob Iger had been presented with numerous opening dates in May through to July. The May dates are simply not possible and Iger does not want it opening as late as July so some time in June 2016 is expected. Despite that is is highly likely that the park will not be complete when it does open (a la original Disneyland in 1955) and they aim to have it all completed by December 2016 (things like C-ticket attractions may not be ready).

Here are a couple of photos shared by Disney and More:

Good to see some vegitation in the park at last. It is a pity that the Tron show building can be seen behind the dome, most unlike Disney who are normally very good at hiding their show buildings.

:)

I hate to say I am unsure on those modern buildings... they don't have that classic/retro look of the originals nor the beauty of the Paris one. It just doesn't look very theme park-esque?

It looks like a bus station. A nice bus station, but a bus station none the less.

It reminds me of the Bullring. Now, don't get me wrong, Bullring is cool - but that is the middle of Birmingham. Not Shanghai Disneyland.

Whenever I look at the "retro" buildings of the American Tomorrowlands, all I can ever think of is this definition from The Meaning of Liff:

"Zeerust: the particular kind of datedness which afflicts things that were originally designed to look futuristic."

The same also applies to any space themed attraction, even our beloved Eurosat. Or pretty much any building built after the 1950's.

With four and a half months until opening, let's take a look at how Shanghai Disneyland is progressing (photos credit to themeparx.com).

And finally the castle which I'm still yet to be convinced on:

I don't know exactly when these photos were taken but there does appear to still be a lot to do before opening day.

:)

A couple more somewhat stunning photos from Disney and More:

Oh Disney! This may be costing a fortune but it has some serious wow to it! Still don't like the caslte mind.

:)

I am a little concerned about throughputs here.

The SDMT coaster doesn't exactly pack them through in Orlando and this Tron coaster also looks like it could end up with less than 20 riders per train.

Looks beautiful - but it would be nice if Disney did a really good actual COASTER aswell as the beautiful theming!

Looks gorgeous... but it's still a Vekoma moterbike at heart. Just look at that rattle!

The lighting and effects look nothing short of stunning, just a pity that it doesn't look up to much track and train.

:)

Looks very little point to riding and/or watching this coaster during daylight

I'm very intrigued to see the finished product. Everything about the park has excited me for quite a while but for some reason I'm not feeling it at the moment. Maybe it's the lack of Main Street, the much larger pathways than in other Disney parks or the lack of rides at present. Something just doesn't feel right, although I hope that changes once all is complete.

Having said that much of it does look stunning. Adventure Isle and Treasure Cove in particular. I've seen a few snippets of Pirates in videos on Instagram and some of the effects look very cool, a full and clear POV of this is something to really look forward to.
