Six Flags Great Adventure: General Discussion

It seems six flag managed to get a good package deal buying rides that where already well into manufacture from a failed park project in Asia, a package of rides were put on the market earlier in the year from this failed Asia park and many of six flags new additions match concepts for rides in this park- including this ride, the new Intamin Ultra Surf for Six flags over Georgia amongst others.

The lack of a turntable (if the images are reflective of the final design) looks to be a grave error. Putting a tall, imposing coaster like that right at the front of the park with such a low capacity is going to cause mega queues. At least the Six Flags raptors aren’t right at the front of their respective parks.

The ride itself though, as with the majority of Vekoma’s recent stuff, looks very good.

I guess because this coaster was originally built for another park that is not happening, Six Flags have to go with how that park wanted it. Therefore a switch track for a separate station is not possible.

How big was this Asian park going to be. Reading on the Web indicates 5 coasters in total have been brought up by other park's.

Great Adventure is a real dive at the moment. It is their 50th anniversary year and even in mid-August they are not ready for it.
  • New coaster delayed to 2025
  • Saw Mill log flume, having a refurb for this year, still not finished
  • Superman, Zumanjaro, Cyborg Cyber Spin, Houdini's all closed
  • Coasters not having a full complement of trains available (Medusa only has 1 of its 3 trains, the first time this has happened since at least March 2016)
  • The sheer amount neglected pathways, old rides/ride areas etc.
The one thing I will say is that on the whole, ride teams were working flat out with the limited resources they had been given. The El Toro team in the evening were running up the platform checking restraints, and having a blast whilst doing so. Top marks!

Considering they're now owned by the same company, I'm surprised they haven't implemented a chaperone policy like the legacy Cedar Fair parks. In the evening the park took a slightly uncomfortable vibe with pockets of marauding youths up to no good

The link in the Reddit post doesn’t work. But it wouldn’t shock me.
It’s what - 20 years old, and must cost a fortune to run now in energy and maintenance costs……

Suppose once Falcons Flight opens it'll lose its biggest selling point and the issues with TT2 have probably soured any possible plans for converting the ride.

Hope if the rumours are true they are marketing 2025 as its final season, hopefully visiting next summer so would be nice to get a few more goes on it. Even though it was never as good as Top Thrill Dragster.

I hope that this is not true, but I guess I wouldn't be too surprised. These very fast Intamin hydraulic launch coasters are a maintenance/downtime nightmare and Ka no doubt costs a small fortune to operate. And we know legacy Cedar Fair's thoughts on Top Thrill Dragster.

Still, Kindda Ka is such an iconic coaster and Great Adventure would be a worse park without it. Would also mean the loss of Zumanjaro.

Make of this what you will...

Since I don’t have time to make a video about the Kingda Ka rumors…. I’ve heard about them for about 2 months now from some trusted sources.
*2025 will be the last season
*Cedar Fair merger is the cause they don’t want another one*1M+ Annual Operational Cost
*Not sure if a renovation was ever considered, but it isn’t anymore & it will be scraped along with Zumanjaro
*The 400 Launched Mack Spinner is likelyI don’t want to see it go but all of it make sense and it loses its record next year so they kind of have an out finally.
The proposed layout for Kings Island at 200 feet seemed really dumb to me but at 400 feet that could be absolutely insane. Possibly a better ride overall and worthy replacement if it has a dual station and decent capacity. Go ride as much as you can, I have…. I hope what I’ve been told is wrong and is reconsidered if true.

I always thought I'd one day be able to experience TTD... then it closed.
(I'm sure TT2 is great, but it's not quite the same)

I thought the same of KingdaKa. I hope it doesn't close but I can totally understand it as a business decision sadly.

Thorpe's Fisher-Price offering it is...!

There's yet more talk of Kingda Ka closing, with the possibility of no announcement. It may just close and that will be it.

Coaster Studios are not the best source, but something is going on, there's too much noise around Ka at the moment. Some red markings have also been spotted on pathways in the area, although they could be unrelated.

There is also talk of Green Lanterns imminent closure and removal.

Time will tell I guess. Closing Ka with no announcement would be a bit rubbish.

It’s funny to think that if Kingda Ka does close then that will make Red Force the world’s tallest operating full circuit coaster.

Edit - Would also make it the fastest coaster in the world seeing as Formula Rossa is currently SBNO.

Could be a weird 12 months ahead were the operating coasters holding fastest and tallest records change a few times over the year.

Whilst I can sort of understand Six Flags wanting to close it on the quiet for operational reasons you'd think the marketing team would be screaming at them about all the marketing and advertising opportunities having a final few weeks made public. Selling specially made merch, maybe auctioning off seats on the final 'public' train for charity.

Losing the tallest coaster and tallest drop tower in one go is a huge blow for the park.

Not only that but I'm hearing that they could be losing up to 3 other additional rides over the closed season including the topspin and parachute ride.

With the disaster of Top Thrill 2 as well it's not been a great time for the group.

The parachute ride was looking very abandoned in August. It seemed clear that the park as a whole was struggling operationally. Lots of rides were running low capacity - Medusa seemed to only have 1 of the 3 trains fully built up
