Six Flags Great Adventure: General Discussion

Losing the tallest coaster and tallest drop tower in one go is a huge blow for the park.

Not only that but I'm hearing that they could be losing up to 3 other additional rides over the closed season including the topspin and parachute ride.

With the disaster of Top Thrill 2 as well it's not been a great time for the group.
Unconfirmed, but there are rumours that Kinda Ka, Zumanjaro, Green Lantern and the top spin could all be closing on Monday.

Sad to hear. I went to this park in pre-thoosie times about 17 years ago and remember my mind being blown just seeing Kingda Ka. I was so terrified to ride it and unfortunately it broke down whilst we were queuing and we had to leave so looks like now i'll never get to ride it. At the time i was quite relieved as i was so scared but now i'm full of regret.

Sad times, Kingda Ka and Zumanjaro are iconic. I remember when I first started getting in to this hobby a few years back watching videos of Kingda Ka and thinking of how completely and utterly crazy it and Zumanjaro looked and how I'd love to go on something like that. If Kingda Ka gets scrapped then that's got to be the biggest loss of a ride in our community in a long time.

Interestingly, Six Flags Great Adventure have now filed demolition permits for Parachute Tower, Twister and Green Lantern: https://coasterforce.com/forums/threads/rumour-of-kingda-kas-removal.47176/page-5#post-1180487

Those would imply that nothing is being done about Kingda Ka just yet… but that could of course change.

In terms of another development with regard to Kingda Ka, Marcus Leshock (a news anchor known to be a rollercoaster enthusiast) asked Six Flags Great Adventure if Kingda Ka is closing permanently and was told that the park “plans to share information about the ride and additional park news very soon”:

That sounds slightly ominous, and would suggest that there is “news” coming on Kingda Ka to me…

The parachute ride was looking very abandoned in August. It seemed clear that the park as a whole was struggling operationally. Lots of rides were running low capacity - Medusa seemed to only have 1 of the 3 trains fully built up

When I went last year the park's operations absolutely stunned me because they were surprisingly good. It was at best a medium crowd day and most of the major coasters were running on 2 trains, Nitro and I think KK were even running on 3, when they easily could have gotten away with 2. Medusa opened late in the day (I'm talking like 3PM-ish) and that was 2 trains! Only Superman and Batman were running on one but even then it wasn't that bad for the latter (the former was bad, especially as they took a train off)

It'd be a crying shame if KK closes. I remember it being constructed and watching the documentary on Nat Geo about it which fuelled my passion for creds even further.

Really hope it's a case of them converting it but actually getting Intamin in this time.

Would work better as with Green Lantern gone that frees up the space at the turn round into the break run. Supposedly Intamin were consulted over Dragster but said they'd need to remove Iron Dragon.

Secondly Kingda Ka with its dual load station means they'd have much more space for that swing launch compared to TT2.

Still gutted as I'm going back in June so whatever they do it won't be open. Glad I rode it and Zumanjaro a few times in 2019.

I do expect the announcement to be that Kingda Ka is closing. I find it unlikely that it would receive treatment similar to TTD due to the problems with TT2.

I feel like one of the reasons that the park haven’t commented on Kingda Ka’s future yet is because they want to see what happens with TTD2 and whether that can be put right and made a success of before deciding whether KK could get a similar treatment, perhaps with a different company’s technology, or whether it will go. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s SBNO for 2025 and then the park announce a decision at the end of that season.

Red Force becomes the tallest full-circuit coaster but not absolute tallest - Superman at SFMM is over 400ft tall.

That has also been SBNO for most of the year, apparently… so even then, it would still be Red Force!

It will also be the fastest coaster in the world if Kingda Ka closes seeing as Formula Rossa is now SBNO. To potentially have all three of KK, TTD2, and Rossa unavailable to ride is quite some turn of events.

Also, the structure of Superman at SFMM might be 415ft tall but the train doesn't reach that full height of course. RCDB lists it with a drop of 328ft.

Well there we go, Kingda Ka’s closure has been confirmed:

And in 2026 the park will get a new multi-record breaking coaster!

The end of an era, but I am looking forward to seeing what replaces it. I’m sure they’re very aware that it needs to be iconic.

Cue Cedar Fair desperately scrambling to find a manufacturer who they haven't pissed off that has the capacity to build a functional launch coaster that can surpass Falcon's Flight in both velocity and height.
