Didn't see a thread on this, so I apologise in advance if there's one already :p Six Flags announced a couple of days back that the Georgia Cyclone at SFOG is to close next Sunday (30th).

Shall we be seeing an RMC? I think it's pretty obvious at this point :p Whatever it is, I trust it won't get confirmed until Six Flags announce their attractions for 2018 at the beginning of September.

More traditional woodies being removed.

Nevertheless! I rode this and whilst it wasn't the best, it gives the US parks a nice, old time edge.

Georgia Cyclone was pretty terrible, so not much of a loss really, GASM on the other hand was a genuine delight, though my opinion of it was probably boosted by the fact that I wasn't really expecting much from it.

SFNE's Cyclone wasn't a cyclone clone IIRC.

Shows what I know then, I had it in my head it was. :)

I mean a standard Vernon Keenan layout :) - Six Flags has them at Great America and this one at Over Georgia. The ones at Magic Mountain and Astroworld are long gone - you have to wonder if they may have been candidates for RMCing also if they hadn't have been demolished.

Wicked Cyclone is an absolutely tremendous ride, but I am not sure you could create something quite like it from this particular layout. Interested to see it :)

Twisted Cyclone, new for 2018!

It looks fantastic, but it does seem a bit short! Some of the elements look to drag out a little long for an RMC, but the real rides always seem to run somewhat faster than the animations.

EDIT, here is the official press release:

Six Flags Over Georgia—the Thrill Capital of the South—today announced the all-new Twisted Cyclone hybrid roller coaster will arrive in 2018. Twisted Cyclone will offer guests the best of both worlds—a classic wooden structure combined with a modern, steel track for multiple inversions and a smoother, more thrilling riding experience. “Six Flags was the first in the industry to introduce this hybrid technology and Twisted Cyclone is a shining example of Six Flags innovation at its very best. Year after year, our park keeps delivering unique thrills for all ages and this state-of-the-art hybrid coaster is an absolute game-changer,” said Park President Dale Kaetzel. “Our guests are going to be blown away by the unbelievable features of this coaster.” Twisted Cyclone highlights include: • An insanely steep 75-degree initial drop from nearly 100 feet into a jaw-dropping reverse cobra roll sending riders perpendicular to the ground; • Three hair-raising upside down inversions and 10 airtime moments along 2,400 feet of track at speeds of 50 miles per hour; • The feeling of weightlessness through a 360-degree zero gravity roll; • One-of-a-kind custom coaster trains modeled after a classic 1960’s sports convertible; and • A smoother, sleeker, more intense ride than ever before. Construction on Twisted Cyclone is underway and the ride is expected to debut in the spring of 2018. Looks great. An RMC Big Apple would be more joyful than a lot of woodies of that era that are past their prime.

For crying out loud, Six Flags, come up with some more original names already!

I'm sure it'll be a great ride for the park but it is disappointingly short when compared to Steel Vengeance and Twisted Timbers which are actually longer than the originals.

Infinitely better than what it replaces. Twisted Colussus is a lot shorter than Colossus but there's obviously no comparison.

Love the blue! The wave turn looks bonkers.

A look at Twisted Cyclone testing:

Not sure when it is due to open, but seeing as this also has the new RMC trains it will be interesting to see if they run it on more than one for now.

:)

I thought all of the 2018 RMCs had the new trains, although I could be wrong!

EDIT:

Just checked and you're right, they are indeed the old style trains!

:)
