Strange Roller Coasters

I suppose parks are spoilt for choice in coaster manufactors now, so parks take less risks with new rides now days.

Is this a decent PAX coaster I spy? :p

I love the Cameras reaction to the corkscrew in that second tornado video! <3

Listen to the sound it made going round it *VOM*

What I don't understand is at what point does a park decide to buy a Pinfiri like that? :p

As crazy as a certain French park buying a certain dire, ancient Vekoma ;)

Vekoma made some fairly good rides, its just that they had fairly insane elements and didn't age well. Corkscrew was rough yeah, but the layout and airtime you got was amazing! Bearing in mind that vekoma have made many worlds firsts as well.

Even if you don't like the ride, it's difficult to dislike the look and noise of them!

Might just be personal preference but I find Vekoma track to be the ugliest of any manufacturer.

Beauty is the eye of the beholder, but seriously? Vekoma corkscrew track is gorgeous! The wheels are on the inside making it very tight and neat and the track looks like a rib cage. Very organic and slightly intimidating. I absolutely love Vekoma track!

It lacks the elegance of box section track though, that's the easiest on the eye IMO. I don't like the way the rails protrude up from the spine on Vekoma, whereas on B&M track it's more or less level with the spine.

Vekoma track works with some themes. It would be good with a spooky area as it looks like bones. It worked in Ug Land for the same reason.

Box track is dull in my opinion. It's just box-shaped! :p Vekoma track looks like a skeleton (which is why Corkscrew was fine when it became part of Ugland and had no theming added). Look at how aesthatically pleasing Infusion is:

And to ensure this post doesn't stray off-topic, here's another beaut I found:

Except this isn't naff and has some pretty good theming. It's basically a clone of X2 but with dinosaur theming! :D And what a name! :p

TBH, in that photo, Infusion is ruining a nice view of PMBO against the sunset. But hey, that's just me. ;)

I don't like them sort of 4D coasters, they look Ok to ride but the supports and the track look horrid.

And I'm not a fan of the way Vekoma track looks, in my opinion Intamins double spine and b&M box track look a lot nicer. :)

That's a nice ride, who is it by?

S&S Arrow. It's one of Arrow Dynamics 4th dimension coasters but it's the only one to be built by S&S since Arrow went bankrupt and they sold this particular design to them.

It's odd because while this was the ride type that finished Arrow off it's also the ride that is keeping them alive today. They were a great pioneering company Arrow, just a shame they were to creative. They invented the swinging coaster before the inverted coaster and the 4th dimension before the Wingrider. Talk about being ahead of the game!

Dinoconda is an S&S 4D coaster, same as X2 at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Eejanaika at Fuji-Q Highland. :)

And I agree that Intamin's new double spine is amazing!

Edit: Damn you, Tim! :p

Isn't that Dinocona the second S&S one? Wasn't Eejanaika built after Arrow kicked the bucket?

I had no idea this new one had been finished, heard nothing of it for ages, and isn't there another one on the way?

Yep, this the second 4D from S&S. Arrow went bust in 2002 and Eejanaika has operated from 2006, but as to whether the design was done by Arrow and S&S simply made it when they bought Arrow, I don't know.

Also, haven't seen anything about another being built, but I could have sworn there was another one somewhere in Asia (narrows it down, doesn't it :p ) that was white in colour.

Whilst I was looking for the coaster I thought I'd seen above, I found this:

It's called the Sledgehammer (built by Hoei Sangyo) and it looks bloody terrifying! :p
