The Alton Towers Dungeon

Would we be surprised if Merlin said "You either build this, or you get no investment next season?"

I would be more inclined to believe that Alton saw this as a relatively strong brand within the group that they can bring to their park for a relitively cheap price. Irrespective of how it will actually perform in the park. It could work well done right, who knows.

Why would Merlin, the company who thrive on growth, demand they build this or get no investment? They would be shooting themselves in the foot the, because if they chose not to build, the bottom line would only effect those who made the demand in the first place.

Alton don’t want the dungeons, Merlin have forced their hand on his one as they want the midway brand in the park.

It’s not that they said build this or no investment. They just told them what they where building end of.

I have to say, I’d be very intrigued to hear from Merlin’s perspective the reasoning for putting a Dungeons attraction inside Alton Towers... what exactly do they expect to be the benefits of that? Surely they must want the best for the park, and surely they must realise that a Dungeons attractions isn’t going to achieve that

It’s a pretty cheap thing to add and low risk in reality, if attendance drops or doesn’t continue to grow then it’s something easy write off compared to something that’s several million pounds.

Just hope they pull it off otherwise they’ll damage the Dungeon brand...

It would be nice for the resort, not the park itself so in an ideal world where space was not an issue, it would be quite good beside the hotels

As much as I hate the idea, and the proposed location, if this was done properly in the towers like hex for instance it would be great. But where it is and the fact nothing has started yet it’s gonna be crap

I really struggle to see the synergy perspective here, and much more a threat of saturation. As someone that has been to the Blackpool and Warwick Castle Dungeons I have no desire to visit another. I imagine this could easily work both ways with people visiting the Alton Dungeons not necessarily caring for the Warwick site. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's my take.

To be fair, the Tree Top Quest is a pretty decent attraction . It's just that they can't afford to run it.

And there lies our problem. How long before this is butchered for labour costs? Not even 1 season is my bet.

If you do the same today as you did yesterday, you'd generally be a fool to expect anything other than the same result.

I wasn’t impressed, I expected the worlds scariest ride as per what they said it was. Turned out Night Garden at CBeebies land was more scary.

Walking dead and the year of has apparently alienated some who haven’t even visited the park because they aren’t interested in it.

But back to the Dungeons, it’s a gamble with a very slim glimmer of hope because if the Towers dungeon is rubbish they risk damaging a cash cow brand and that’s not something Merlin would want.
To add weight to your comment my family and myself normally visit Thorpe at least 5 or 6 times a year and this year we've not bothered. Walking dead is a dumb ip that's been jumped on at the end of its life span. My kids are not interested and nor am I. If the ride was any good then ques would be huge but from checking ride times over the season it seemed to only have a high of like 30 min. And I bet money that was inflated. This is the problem with retheming a old pretty standard ride. You only go on it again to see what's changed. And now I can't even take the kids on it due to the hight limit.

At least it’s...something?

Hopefully they won’t charge, though we know they will.

What annoys me about this is that people have been wanting a new dark ride for ages. Instead of coming up with a new, innovative design based on a new storyline, instead we get the dungeons.
