The Alton Towers Dungeon

Thinking about it the building would do well as a scarefest attraction. Self contained and people can walk around the empty water channel and follow the route through. Alternatively, turn it in to a water based scarefest attraction like a haunted river, with actors jumping out on the boat during the ride as it passes different scenes.

Or turn it back into a family boat ride that can run all year round at no extra charge!

Oh good lord please no!

It's a perfectly well designed functioning family dark ride - In a park that can't afford to build a new family dark ride.- In the middle of an unfinished family area (unfinished because they ran out of cash) that could do with a new family dark ride. - In a park that desperately needs a new family dark ride.

Is there even a ticket booth outside? I can't recall whats there at the front of the Dungeon Building.

Whereas at Warwick Castle there is the "tent" entrance where they can sell tickets as well as check them (at least before covid they were). That was an upcharge but it felt like they did a lot more to sell it. At Alton Towers it just didn't feel like they really wanted people to go visit the Dungeon all that much.

I gave this three seasons when it opened, so I'm kind of expecting this to be its last season. A good (ish) attraction that was always going to have a shelf life.

It makes so much more sense to incorporate the building back into David Walliams world.

I noticed the other week that you no longer get a free digital photo, not sure if that’s because of the on going Picsolve digital issues or if it’s just gone permanently. But the sign which mentions free photo has been covered up.

A "liquid rat" anyone? :p

Went on this today. I appreciate what they’re doing but at extra cost it is a bit poor. The whole experience feels a bit like it’s leading up to something but unfortunately never fully delivers.

The Alton Towers Dungeon is the only attraction at Alton Towers that I would like to see go. Apart from being an upcharge, it's capacity is a fraction of what the boat ride would achieve on its own. The World of David Walliams feels like it lacks a proper headline ride (and Gangsta Granny is struggling to be the headline ride with its poor capacity). What I can't think of is what David Walliams book they could theme it to?

Gangsta Granny goes around the world in 80 days.

I'd make each scene a story from a different Walliams book personally. Either way, they need to do it and sort the rest of the area now. That whole section of the park is abysmal.

I've only done the Dungeon once. I won't be doing it again because what's the point if you have to pay extra for it on a 10-17 park day? I'm sure many visitors will feel the same way. I'd be more inclined to do it again if it wasn't shoved in a family Dark Ride in the middle of a family area. There's a real life gothic building that practically lends itself to a Dungeon theme right NEXT DOOR to it and I'm sure it'd also do far better as a second gate near the hotels rather than taking 45 mins out of the middle of your day for an extra fee.

I don’t want this to go off topic or anything but as I not been in the dungeons and the only videos on line is from the preview evening. I’m wondering where the scenes are in the building if you still get on and off the boat the as places as you did as Charlie and with the Lifts and exit areas is used as the Trick or treat town area. Is the party room still unused or is some rooms built in there?

Not 100% but from what I can work out, the judge scene is in the old queue line and section of the queue which had the projector on the wall. You then get on the boat. The next scene is where Mike TV was. I believe the rest of the scenes are either around where the lifts are, or in the old party room section of Toyland tours.

We know Trick 'o Treat Town is using the space where the elevators used to be.

Yeah, the Dungeons as a whole just needs junking out within the next few years. Give the ride system a proper memorable Dark Ride, not an IP or only a portion of it avaliable to Guests.

Either Reimagine Toyland Tours or Retheme it to a non intellectual property Ride.

I know its close to TWODW, but the park is really heavily lacking non IP family rides, and it would be a nice transition from the dark forest mature theming, to something for everyone to enjoy, then TWODW for the kids. I'd also think it'd be great if they did either of the 2 options above instead of a CATCF situation again.
