Thanks in no small part to those heroic vets ensuring that prepackaged Tesco chickens are in fact dead before they got here! Otherwise they'd be all over the place, clucking away, stealing our HGV jobs to buy grain, claiming benefits and having chicks to get council coups and pecking anyone who wishes to buy a bendy banana. They don't even bother to speak our language, preferring to squawk at us instead. Send them all back to the EU nation of Poultrystan I say........
 
I thank those for their detailed insights into disruption of standard operations/logistics.

Well we don't know what, if any, part is actually needed for the Smiler. I simply question the idea that if something needs to be bought from the EU in a relative emergency it is subject to many days and weeks of delays regardless of cost.
 
The delay could be a problem relating to anything really.

Even the chip shortages and shipping container issues could be a factor depending on what the part is and where it's manufactured.
 
I'm not questioning people's informed insights, my statement was genuine - there have been some long and detailed replies. I was specifically picking up on the link made between the Smiler's extended downtime and Brexit. Merlin themselves have made no such claims.
 
Merlin aren't going to come out and say that. They'd not come out and talk about technical problems like that.

Calling Brexit out for what it is has progressively become taboo anyway amongst UK media.

I didn't know about the microchip issue until organising getting a brand new car today.

6 months for Nissan, apparently some like Volvo are on a year waiting list.

Then Pizza Hut had no cheesey bites or stuffed crust bases.

There's so many problems that are of our own choosing. And that also counts for those decisions made in regards to the Covid situation as well.

The crux of the problem with this whole 5 year debate. It has been acceptable to assume things on either side of the debate as long as the argument supports whatever side of the debate a person is on.

In the absence of hard facts that successive governments have been reluctant to give us, apportioning blame on most of our countries problems now on Brexit is identical to apportioning that blame on the EU pre 2016.

The fanboyism and tribalism of this whole half decade long debate/circus is the real problem and we'll only know for sure when we're much older and Freedom of Information Act requests start piling in.

Saying that the Smiler part could be held up by Brexit is no more implausible than some of what else has been said on the Brexit side of the argument.

The argument for Brexit was based on lies and deceit. The argument for Remain was based on lies and deceit. The most toxic debate in this countries democratic history. At least when that evil woman did what she did to this country in the 80's there was some passionate defence for both positions on either sides of the fence.
 
Enjoyed my new tradition of saying "F*** Brexit" when handing over my passport to French or British border officials. Haven't failed yet. Equally, they've all nodded or shrugged.

Leaving Europe once again after a great week and continuing to wonder 'why' we left the union.

Madness.

Why would that be a problem? I think everyone should be testing when they travel regardless to or from our vaccination status.
 
It's extra cost and inconvenience for British travellers visiting the continent. A cost that's not incurred by people travelling within the EU. A cost that British travellers wouldn't have incurred prior to Brexit.

Yes, another cost, another hindrance, more bureaucracy. Any benefits yet?

It would be a problem because UK citizens are now being discriminated against on the basis that we are no longer members of the European Union - the choice we made has left us actively worse off to pursue the life we choose.

There is no fundamental need for private sector testing to be used for travelling, at significant cost - when most of us have a pile of lateral flow tests in our homes, which could serve the purpose for travel if testing really is needed.

There is no scientific need to test travellers between France and the UK. The vaccination rate in both countries is over 80%. The damage to the travel industry is ongoing, and these quick-fire reactions are doing nothing to support it.

I have no issue with testing being in place between countries of vastly differing vaccination levels, or to/from countries with variants of concern emerging. This is not the case between the UK and most of Western Europe.

On a more personal level, My parents live in France, and the ongoing hurdles and difficulties that we are having to navigate now just to get together are, through Brexit due to the 90-day rule, Covid and a combination of both - absolute galling. First it was residency rights post-Brexit, then it was international travel bans and limits, now it's little tweaks here and there - all making it more difficult.
