The I Feel Happy Topic!

Car went in for its service and MOT yesterday. Passed the MOT with only a couple of advisories, and the service was fine as well. Ended up costing the minimum of what I was expecting, which was great!

I had similar last week, fans were over responding recently and figured it was going to be a nightmare but they just gave it back and said it’s fixed with no explanation :D

I've gone to this garage for the past few years, as I was dissatisfied with what my previous garage did for a number of reasons. They've always been prompt at getting service and MOT done, and they've also been happy to keep hold of the car until the following morning when I can go and pick it up. Only disadvantage is it's a mile from where I now live, and it's also uphill to get there, so the walk to collect it this morning was not fun. :p

Also similar (the mile hilly walk) 😂

Tdi? . .

If so chances are it was doing a dpf regen. . The fans stay on after switch off to cool everything down.

DPF, new one on me, but then again, always petrol.
They’ve got them in petrol cars now these days too - gasoline particulate filters (GPF).

Thankfully they don’t have the same issues the DPFs do, i.e. getting clogged up with crap and having to be cleaned out periodically.

This. . .

First production car to have opf/gpf was the up!gti in 2018. .

But with petrols burning alot hotter than diesels. . They have less problems clogging. .

But cause alot more issues if you want the car to sound good and modify the exhaust system. . .ask me how I know 🙄 haha

Quite the long day honestly but in a good way. My car went in for it's MOT and service early this morning which while it needed work done on it which cost me a fair bit it passed round about 2:30 this afternoon and to add to today, Raith Rovers defeated the dirty Dunfermline mob in the Fife Derby which helps end the day on a happy note for me.

2024 ended on a (minor) high for me… as after 21 years, I finally won my first ever game of Monopoly during our family board game night on New Year’s Eve! (Well, I used to win against the AI players a lot on the iPad app, but that doesn’t really count… this is my first time ever winning against actual human players!)

If you’re familiar with any newer version of Monopoly that has the red “speed dice”, you’ll know that there’s a Mr Monopoly option on the speed dice that forces you to visit either the next unowned property or the next property owned by another player once all properties on the board have been purchased.

With this in mind, what normally happens when our family plays Monopoly is that my dad buys up the two dark blue properties (Mayfair and Park Lane, for traditional players), and once all properties have been purchased, he mortgages everything else he owns and piles hotels on the two dark blue properties, ensuring that anyone directly pitted against him has to land on his two dark blue hotels if they roll Mr Monopoly. This takes him on a sure fire road to victory, with it being a simple matter of “who rolls Mr Monopoly first?”; each of us gradually falls like a domino, and he always ends up winning!

But tonight, the dark blue properties actually weren’t held as a set by anyone, so I was able to swoop to victory with the help of the whole set of train stations and a lovely set of hotels on the red properties! My dad had the green set, but that didn’t quite seem to help him win today…

On a fun side note, we played our older Alton Towers edition of Monopoly, dating back to around 2010 (I have a newer one with Wicker Man on it that dates to around 2018), and I worked out that of the 28 buyable properties on the Monopoly board, 8 of them have now been removed from the resort entirely and at least a further 2 have been rethemed… for some idea of age, The Smiler wasn’t on there, Thirteen and Rita were the “big new rides” occupying the dark blue spaces, and the board still had old classics like Old MacDonald’s Farmyard, Squirrel Nutty and Submission!

It might be the middle of January, and I'm skint and cold and tired but my new job which I started on 6th Jan is already proving very interesting and worthwhile. The people are nice too which makes a great change from my last team.

Hoping my 2 years here will continue to be as interesting!

Only downside is we're slightly lacking in photos of MC on Discord.

;)

People still play Monopoly? We need to get you playing some adult games where you actually have some input over your fate, rather than blindly following dice to disappointment. Let's start you off with some simple Catan and work from there. ;)

If it counts, we also played Blockbuster (inspired by the TV show of the same name) and Outsmarted (basically Trivial Pursuit with more up-to-date questions read off an iPad app), where I answered trivia questions to reach my fate! I won Outsmarted, and I also managed to successfully complete a gold rush in Blockbuster (although I can’t remember whether that was from me winning the game or just trying a gold rush for fun after we finished playing… I think it may have been the latter).

We also played Cluedo, which I was rubbish at, and Yahtzee, which I did surprisingly well at compared to usual (although that literally is just luck…)!

That's really good. Having decent people around you always makes something more enjoyable, no matter what it is.

Well then, a bit of fame for me and if you follow the 'Look what I made topic', my efforts with photos haven't gone unnoticed in which in which the latest Trackside railway magazine, there is an article on the heritage railway I'm working at and in the middle of the page here regarding the building of the spur line is one of my photos being used to show construction works.

So yeah, pleased to see my wee bit of fame for my efforts and I got credited for it! :D

(Answer if you want to read the rest of the article I have saved.)
