[The Smiler] Construction Updates and Ride Speculation

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

The picture is of Th13teen's lorry delivering the 'secret element' of that ride. The article itself doesn't actually contradict anything - as it simply states that a 'world's first element' of the ride is 'under wraps'. That could mean anything at all. It could be that the world's first number of inversions is being kept secret or it could mean that a track piece hasn't been revealed...

It really tells us nothing to be honest.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

That article speaks in the past tense. So I would assume it's a rather old article, it doesn't mention anything we do not already know.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

That article provides nothing we don't already know, and I'd imagine it was written based on the press release containing the stats of SW7.

:)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Haven't seen this posted yet.

There is a 2 page advert in the latest edition of the Merlin VIP magazine, with a SW7 themed Alton Towers logo.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

That's pretty cool and it's great to see more marketing!

I highly doubt that they'd change the main logo to that though... ;)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Like I said earlier, Altons public machine has done a splendid job on this one.

So what exactly do we know because one website is fed one thing and another one something else, the plans could be right or they might not be, newspaper articles contradicting each other etc, etc.

I think the only thing we know is that it is on the black hole site, who it's made by and that the track is black.
The rest is complete guesswork.

I can't wait for 2013 as I love it.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I absolutely love that logo! It's perfectly feasible that this will be used in all advertising and on-park branding (such as the map) this year, much in the same way that the green logo with branches was used in 2010 and still features on Th13teen merchandise. I thought that logo was cracking but this is seriously fantastic!

It's little touches like this that help tie everything together and I cannot wait to see what the big marketing campaign has in store.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Have to agree Scott!

It looks incredible doesn't it I love it!! :D

Well done AGAIN AT! (I so much prefer being able to honestly praise them, than complain like I felt the need to so much last year!).

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

Wow that logo is amazing! Good work Towers! As Scott has said I'd expect to see that logo used a lot in 2013 for various things such as adverts, posters and on the map. Towers quite often play around with their logo for various attractions and events and it always works really well.

:)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I'm convinced now that this coaster is going for the inversion record.

Pretty conclusively.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

World beating seems like it is the definitive choice in marketing now. It's appeared on the construction boards, on in-park advertising, on the 2013 minisite and now on this new advert in the Merlin VIP mag. Combined with the distinct lack of anything that resembles trick track makes me think the inversion record could well be on the cards. Particularly as I don't see any other way this ride could 'beat' the rest of the world.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I think the minute marketing got confusing and they started using a mixture of words, it was clear that a record of some description was on the cards. Most inversion record looks pretty likely.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

And if it is to be the inversion record, it further proves that the plans we have all seen are wrong!

:)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

That SW7 Alton Towers logo looks great.

Apart from Th13teen I think Oblivion was the only other Secret Weapon which caused a variant of the main park logo to be created (the normal logo was coloured silver in 1998 I think).

:)

I'm still fairly convinced that what we will see above ground will be pretty close to the plans. As for what is going to be indoors though, that could be where the real magic is as nobody has any idea whatsoever!

It is genuinely pretty cool that despite all the plans and stuff, the general enthusiast community pretty much has no idea what will happen :)

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I'm still to be convinced the plans are wrong.

They have to get the high points as they are on the plans and it has to fit through the legs of the spider, and the pictures from the site suggest that they're building the cobra roll/batwing.

Re: Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

I still think it will be something along the lines of messing with your senses, not ride or track but perhaps a 3rd object or something interactive

Secret Weapon 7 Discussion Continued

My guess. Dark section with disorientating effects. Possibly some inline twists.
World beating = inversions. World first = duelling coaster on same track.
I'm interested to see some more track work construction, I do wonder if we will have the same layout but with different landscaping, with the cobra roll being in a pit much like Colossus.
