The Smiler - General Discussion

When we talk about the strobe inside, do we mean a strobe in the actual indoor section, or the bar just below the ride op cabin that flashes as you set off?

You said you've had it every time you've been on it. I didn't see it with you on Sunday. :/

It's always on. It depends on where the suns shining though, cos if its coming from the lifthill or through the awful glass floor, then the effect would be diminished to almost nothing.

The inversion strobe has always worked for me every time. However not once has there been any smoke :(

The strobes in the station and indoor section always seem to work, it's just the smoke that doesn't (and thats the best bit!)

The indoor section would be 100times better if they removed the glass floor, even without the smoke the strobe would be much more effective than it is now. The glass floor just lets in too much light from the shop and also because it is at the front of the shop it lets in loads of sunlight.

No one ever pays any attention to it, and when they do they can't see anything anyway, was a nice idea, just doesn't work what so ever. Just cover it over with a big mat (would stop the shop being all wet on a rainy day or a vinyl (that wouldn't cost anything that way!).

Just a quick thought,

Although i'm not usually one to jump on bandwagons, anyone think The Smiler will get the floorless treatment in the future as a marketing strategy? They've already added backward seats to The Swarm, and hopefully theme parks and guests for that matter will realize the whole backwards thing is a complete gimmick.

Making a ride floorless can add something to the ride, especially when there are people/objects below. Would suit The Smiler well I think! I wouldn't suggest it would make the experience hugely better, but you might as well make use of a bit of marketing right? Its just the case of if there is enough space under the station, anyone looked on the plans?

:)

Thing with making it floorless is that they'd need to add the moving platform which folds in and out to allow people to get on and off. Gerstlauer also currently don't make floorless trains and never have done, so there's more money gone on them developing something first, ignoring the cost of the trains themselves, and the floor (which they may or may not be able to create as effectively as B&M did with theirs).

I doubt they will bother with any marketing gimmicks for The Smiler. The only reason the Swarm had the backwards treatment was because the year it opened it was a flop, and the 'ride backwards' marketing was just an attempt to draw people back in. Towers has done consistently well with guest figures so they wouldn't need to try anything out like that.

The Smiler floorless would be pretty cool though.

Still a real shame that they decided to blame all of Thorpes problems on a flipping coaster. Now look where they are now..

But as James says, it doesn't need to. The Smiler sells itself ridiculously well anyway.

Essentially turned away from the ride entrance today at half past 4, despite rides being open until 5.30. Staff member on the gate rather rudely said:

"The queue is over an hour, I'd personally go on Oblivion which has no queue. We have homes to get to you know".

¬_¬

Yeah.

Plus Oblivion did have a 5 minute queue so they weren't even correct =P.

That is bad of the park to allow that.

If it happened to myself and my daughter, she would of just wanted to go home. They should not be doing this as it could be a guest with cognitive disabilities and cause untold problems for their carer. As the walking disable entrance is right next to the queueline entrance. and could end up being turned into a "we don't want disabled guests" by the media.

Should complain about that, they might be able to find out which staff member spoke to you like that! Rare for Towers to have rude staff, but sadly even at Towers you can come across the odd one or two rude staff if you're unlucky.

Whether it was just the effects of a long day in the sun but there seemed to be more rudeness to it than banter.

I'll have another glass of wine and get my complaining mode on. *cracks knuckles*
