Brendan has to be the most cringeworthy piece of PR Alton have ever managed to grab airspace for. It's amazing how much BS people will believe if it's told by someone in overalls or a lab coat. :p

He appeared for SAW and Thirteen, and at every appearance his portrayal just get's more cringy.

Who is he actually, some bigwig within Merlin?

Did he? I really want to see those videos now. I have no idea who he is, but he needs to go, now.

I took part in the Thrill Laboratory a few years back with a couple of others from here. We're filmed riding Oblivion with heart rate monitors and all sorts. I think it was 2008 so probably for Thirteen. I've still got the headcam video somewhere haha.

The idea of the "Thrill Laboratory" is quite funny actually, especially as the presenter makes out it is his out and out job. He's certainly memorised the marketing spiel very well though, "cocktail of emotions" "40 different muscle groups in the face" - basically word for word what he said in the Blue Peter spot. :p

He's nothing to do with Merlin and I believe he is legit with real qualifications. He's been on a lot of documentary's with his Thrill Laboratory but also as on his own on other subjects. I last saw him on Titanic: The Mission last year. I must admit he is rather irritating though.

The Thrill Laboratory has been around for ages! I can remember as far back as 2006 they've been around in the UK. They might even go further back than that.

What they do though is very real. It's no PR rubbish and could in fact help designers with rides in future when technology develops!

Towers just shared this Metro article on their Twitter:

Metro said:
Visitors to Alton Towers will now get to enjoy the world’s first 14-loop rollercoaster after it opened at the theme park this week.

As well as being turned upside down numerous times, riders of the Smiler will also be disorientated by a series of optical effects and bright lights.

The attraction has three more loops than the previous best, making it the official Guinness World Record holder for most rollercoaster turns.

A statement on the Smiler’s official website said: ‘Not for the faint hearted, the marmalising rollercoaster also features a series of twisted psychological effects including optical illusions, blinding lights and jabbing needles designed to mess with your mind.’

The ride cost Alton Towers £18m and took more than eight months to construct.

Bosses had kept the attraction a secret until the recent reveal.

The Smiler is the size of ten football pitches in terms of track and dominates the resort’s X-Sector area.

The "blinding lights" bit made me laugh. About as blinding as an outdoor candle.

After seeing the advert for the new series of Skins on E4, I couldn't help but notice how suitable that type of advert would have been for the Smiler, multiple people in various sad locations, then venturing down a corridor.. It all seemed so perfect and intimidating for the advert the Smiler should have been..

Good lord, the loop is only three minutes long?! This equates to hearing this track sixty times during a three hour queue.

I really like the soundtrack...but they need to make a longer ambient loop which is easier on the ears.

That is only a snippet of the audio loop! It is actually far far longer than that! It's probably much more like 20 minutes, the full thing has loads of other ambient sound sections and the laughing version of ITHOTMK!

Like they say on their website, they have recorded over 75mins of music and ambient sound! It is a massive soundtrack!!

They need to upload the full 75 minute track. I'm sure all of us would actually listen to all of it.

So... when's the 75 minute soundtrack being uploaded? ;)

Seriously Alton, you're missing out big time here on not creating a Smiler Soundtrack CD. Get a bulk order of 250 - 500 done, market it as limited edition, then you'll get all your geeks buying it and a few of the general public too. You make money, geeks are happy, general guests are happy - it's win win.
