The Toilet Topic

I thought the same as when you see posters on the toilet walls saying to clean your hands all over for no less than 20 seconds guests wasn’t even washing there hands at all after going the toilet cause there hands were cold enough anyway from been outside.
 
I went last week and wasn't too pleased to find there is still no hot water in the toilets. Shocking, especially given that we're in the midst of a pandemic. Isn't it a legal requirement for businesses to provide hot water for their customers? I assume there is hot water for the restaurants and food kiosks, as that is also a legal requirement.
Please, please get it sorted over closed season Towers!

It’s not a legal requirement to provide hot water for customers I think only warm water for hand washing facilities for staff.
Pretty certain this discussion has already taken place on this forum.

Bump.

So yesterday I experienced what I assume was hoped to be (by the park) an improved, contactless flush system across the park’s toilets.

Fail.

The cisterns take way too long to refill and so it’s impossible to flush the loo within the timescale of using the facilities and wanting to leave the cubicle. The sensor to flush simply flashes repeatedly, and the little sticker indicates “cistern is refilling and flush will activate when ready”.

This results, for the ladies at least, in having to leave your cubicle with your deposit remaining for the next person. If you wait for it to flush, this results in a queue where people are hanging around in their cubicle staring at the bowl for five minutes.

Poorly thought out and likely cost a fortune!

I've seen quite a few negative comments, particularly from the ladies, relating to this towards the start of the season.

I understand where the thought process was in it (far more hygienic with minimal contact), but if the sensor is faulty then you've no choice but to leave behind the kids you've dropped off at the pool to wink at the next person.

Would have been better to just stuck with the usual flushing mechanism but prioritise hot water at the tops instead...
 
My issue with the CATCF skyride toilets was the oversensitivety of the flush sensor combined with a high ferocity water discharge.

Lean forward a little, flush activates while I'm still assuming the position, freezing cold bollock shower. Invigorating, but not really what I want just before lunch.

That happened to me at a supermarket toilet a few years ago. Wasn't fun.

Doesn't Towers have a general water pressure issue?
I thought all the mains services were limited by capacity.
Maybe all those fast flushing bogs were stealing hotel pressure, there are three where there was once only one.

Haha. This happened to me at Uttoxeter Tesco on the way to Towers years ago. Didn't even go near the sensor either. There must have been some weird surge that led to the toilets automatically going into a flushing frenzy or something. I like to decide when to actually fully awaken for the day, not get it forced upon me for the day by an erupting bog, thanks!

Well quite - I was desperate for a pee, had no idea how far the cistern was from refilling in order to get rid of the last person's mellow deposit, and promptly experienced a flush whilst seated!! This then had the knock on effect of a longer wait for the cistern to refill and flush after my use.

This could genuinely lead to some blockages where many people are using cubicles in quick succession without the cisterns being able to refill and flush in a quick enough cycle. Doesn't bode well for fireworks this year when the toilet cubicle turnaround is super fast and the flush cycle is woeful...

If this is the case, surely this indicates the water system is not up to the new flush requirements? I am genuinely surprised such an incompatible product passed the test phase and got signed off.
 
I mean it the other way round though...they have put slow flow bog cisterns in to manage the problem at minimum cost...Merlin style.

Well this could very well come back to give them a cold under-carriage wash during a sit-down wee. Toilets impact on guest satisfaction way more than whether your dark ride theming is up to scratch.

I remember seeing at some point that theme park toilets were ranked and/or given awards?? Chessington received one I am sure - years ago!

Also, I really do question whether it was a minimum cost solution - they'd have had to do a lot of work to install these across all blocks??
 
At some parks (Europa-Park), going to the toilet can be a real highlight of the day such is the wonderfully themed experience. At Alton Towers and other parks it can be a chore!

I'd love to see a complete refurbishment of all the toilets across the park. They don't need to be themed, but just rip the whole interiors out and replace them with new modern facilities. It's not exactly difficult and could easily be done over a closed season.

They did this to the Mutiny Bay toilets maybe 3 years ago.
