Same building. The facade was redone around 2016 I believe under the TLC programme and the actual themed windows were removed and the replacements just pained on.
Before/During/After.
Ok this makes sense, they had a chance then to apply a drastic change and restyling. Can’t believe the state of before. Please tell me (underneath the scaffold) wasn’t left in that condition for long?

It used to be all funky when it was Nickelodeon, then at some point that was ripped off and standard windows applied. Then during TLC the front was stripped off and re painted. I assume the wall was rotten as I remember rotten wood showing through towards the end.
And of course rather then add new windows during TLC, they just painted those on.
Even since then I’m sure it’s been painted a couple of times since.

Thanks for that. It’s a shame it keeps going backwards in creativity progression. I’ve just looked at old pictures. Looks great when was Nickelodeon. What a shame.
Also can’t believe I’ve found another picture of the frog hopper and building another colour.

As a kid, I thought Outta Control was brilliant! It’s a shame something of a similar setup couldn’t return to the park

It could, in fact it feels more akin to Merlin than it did to Tussauds. Arguably things like I'm a Celebrity at Thorpe are a bit of a spiritual successor to something like Outta Control and those are hated round these parts...

I think it’s failure points out that the format doesn’t work if multiple attempts over multiple decades still hasn’t produced a successful attraction based on the concept.....

I think it perhaps doesn't work brilliantly in the UK, but could potentially work elsewhere.
It's not entirely failed either, I would suggest. I do think people are primed for a certain type of attraction in UK parks.
I wonder what the Pleasure Beach Fun House would be like in 2020, absolute chaos I would wage...

A simple fun house can still work well (the one at Phantasialand is great). It’s the stop start, over dramatised walk through attractions that just don’t suit theme parks. Mostly I would guess because they may be low capital cost but usually have high revenue costs due to the staffing requirements.
Merlin is a bit of a reactionary company and doesn’t have a lot of long term strategy, so they will build a low cost capex attraction because capital monies are not forthcoming but the attraction has high revenue cost. Then when the revenue becomes an issue they close said attraction.... rinse and repeat.

I would love a modern fun house in the UK, the one at Toverland and Phantasiland are great simple attractions. Neither require many staff and are east to operate.
Thing is merlin wouldn’t want one as it’s hard to market as a worlds first, and they would add a pre show and loads of complicated bits which wouldn’t be needed.
The likes of Outta control and I’m a celeb just had awful throughput which of course leads to long queues for daily basic attractions.

I think it suits the theme well, why does it need a more elaborate entrance than this?

I like it, but it is a bit confusing having two different “titles”. Imagine not knowing what the ride is and seeing that.

I think it looks fine. Not great, but fine. I like the lettering for the crown jewels tour, but I agree that the cardboard cutouts looks cheap. I think the building definitely looks better than it did before, and hopefully it will look better in person.

I don't think there's anything wrong with the entrance, I like the logo and the crown jewels sign. My only niggle would be I don't like the funny red thing behind the logo, I don't think that bit is needed.
