Thorpe Park 2017: DBGT: Rise of The Demon

In its first season, Hex had a different preshow based more around the restoration and finding of the vault. The original hex was considered a failure as most guests saw it as a history lesson, rather than a theoretical dark ride. It had very mixed reviews (mostly mediocre or poor), so hex V2 was created (and the current preshow involving the Earl was introduced). Here is the original video.

thanks for the info. i just watched the original video, the current video is way better!

Didn't open till around 3 yesterday. Then it broke 2 or 3 times again and most of us towards the back of the 150 minute queue thought sod it and went elsewhere. Hopefully I'll actually get on it at the 3rd attempt next season.

As if this wasn't as bad as the Sub Terra situation as it was, Thorpe have applied for permission to add an extension to the Ghost Train building....

It's a very small extension to the shop. Seems strange although I'm sure there is a good reason for it.

:)

I thought the shop was perfectly fine as it is, it's actually a decent shop and one of the best for Merlin. Let's hope the new one is just as good.

Did the ride on Sunday (when it opened mid afternoon!) and disappointed to see the train bit in the middle section isn't working again. It's a really simple effect but looks really good. But when it doesn't work you stand looking at nothing and the actors don't really know what to do.

Will be good to get another ending or two, but I still think the ride needs a little more. I just hope it's not a sub Terra scare maze ending. Although I really liked the ending to Sub Terra and the actors really did add to the ride, we all know after a year or two the actors will get cut and you will get a pointless walk through.

One other thing that's changed since my last visit is that they now allow you to take bags on the ride. As the storage room was just closed. To be fair there isn't any reason why you shouldn't be able to keep bags anyway.

Who wants to bet the new shop will be a shipping container?

Seriously though, glad to hear there will be a proper ending. Falling into hell isn't exactly a breathtaking finale. I can see why derren brown did it (the whole experience is all in your head), but it just doesn't work. I just hope it's a little more than sub terra.

Work has started on the new extension

The attraction is very popular with guests, it has successfully drawn a lot of people into the park. Queues topped 5 hours on busy days over Fright Nights this year. I was there to see that despite a 4 hour queue being advertised on the board, people still were happy to join the back of the queue. People are very curious about the ride, and want to go on it.

I look forward to seeing where they take it next, and hope they take the time this closed season to iron out the operational issues.

Can't deny that all the marketing has paid off... just a shame that final product hasn't.

I've been on it 3 times, and even I could spot the perplexed looks on the faces of everyone.

Even when Sub Terra first opened, I came off that in higher spirit's than DBGT.

Can we not confuse long queues meaning a ride is popular please, it doesn't always directly correlate... Otherwise Tiny Truckers would be the most popular thing at Chessie, rather than it's 200pph throughput being the reason...

They're only adding to it because that's what the post ride surveys would be saying, exactly the same as why Sub Terra was 'plussed'... Either that or this was always planned so things that should've been in the original attraction can be billed as 'new'...

I am perplexed with the queue situation at Derren Brown I have to admit. The ride has 3 trains with 58 seats per train, but the queue moves like Tiny Truckers at times. I know a lot of headsets are out of action, but the majority are still being used.

Anyways I know that capacity is the biggest factor in queue length, my point was that people were still willing to join the back of an advertised 4 hour queue. Capacity aside, the fact people were still willing to get in the queue in that scenario is where the ride is winning, it doesn't matter the reason why it has a 4 hour queue (clearly operational problems).

SouthParks FB are reporting that Merlin Entertainments have submitted a new trademark for 'Rise of the Demon'. They are also suggesting that this could have something to do with the new DBGT destination ?

Is that not the name of the wing coaster at hiede park, which would already be copyrighted by merlin already? sure I recognise the name from somewhere.
