Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Both the back and front rows are great on The Swarm. The first drop is excellent on the back.

:)

More media attention about safety today - Colossus evacuated due to someone failing to keep their legs inside the car..

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-surrey-36758193
A rollercoaster ride had to be stopped mid-ride when someone put their leg outside the cart.

The Colossus at Thorpe Park, Surrey, was halted when staff saw on CCTV that someone had "ignored restrictions". Riders were walked to safety.

"We e-stopped the ride as soon as possible and evacuated all guests," a spokeswoman said.

No-one was hurt and the Colossus was "back up and running" a short time later.

Did that really require the whole ride to be evaced? Doesn't even need an E stop if you ask me. Let the moron learn the hard way!

Ah that's what happened, was in the queue at the time, not what Thorpe needed to today. They seemed to be really struggling with everything, stealth didn't open until 11.30, ghost train failed miserably at trying to open, queues around the hour mark for the coasters and all flats 30-40 mins most of the day. Slammer has finally reopened though :)

First time I have ever been at a merlin Park when they have extended the opening hours:eek:

Colossus closed for a bit yesterday. Started going up the lift and stopped and was there for about half an hour before they let everyone out of the queue with a fast track.

Anyone else a little skeptical regarding this?

Consider the train's position on the lift and the fact that you don't evacuate a train like that unless you really have to. If you've ever had to manage an evacuation, you'll know what I mean.

Also, a very popular (none) story, it seems.

Went on Saturday and it really reminded me why I only go there when it's dead.
Never seen such a bunch of rude inconsiderate zoo animals in my life. Would rather be at towers on a travellers day than Thorpe on a weekend any day.

I am visiting Thorpe for the first time next Monday, expecting it to be busy, does anyone have any tips on what order to do the rides? I'm not familiar with the layout and where everything is :)

Going by how today was, get there early so you can get in and do a lap as quick as.

I thought they were going to close the park due to hitting capacity today. I have never seen such a large crowd of people around the gates, plus an endless supply of coaches out front...

Expect it to be very busy - their website currently says "We are expecting a higher number of visitors than normal on 15, 18, 19 July" so I guess these will be the busiest of school trip days.

For the last 3/4 days they've been extending hours slightly till 5:30 for coasters although think parks open till 6 next week.

Try get there for 9:30!

Usually I'd try get Stealth / inferno / swarm done first - colossus and saw often die down at the end of the day. As for ghost train anyone's guess - a full queue is around hour and a half when running well, it's worth a peer over the fence near the Coffee shop / BBQ as there can be a gap between the photo units making the queue abit shorter and a good time to join!

I was there Sunday as well. Strange day.

Saw colossus being evacuated and the down time on rides was awful. Especially emotional about ghost train as that's what I went to ride. Stealth down all morning, colossus down twice, saw broke at one point and no ghost train other than a quick half hour window when it opened with a 240 min queue then shut again. Also some little teenage dirtbags jumped the entire Inferno queue and got into the station via the fire exit. Ride despatch was delayed while they evacuated the abusive little s***s.

I was very surprised when they announced at 6 that they were extending Park opening till 6:30. Never known this before at any Park I've been too. And to think, Towers would have been long closed by then!
