Thorpe Park: General Discussion

National Trust positively take the piss compared to Merlin, we bought my son the £30 "young adult" membership just to get free parking at our local parks, we have three within spitting distance and each one is £4 a pop, that adds up quick over the course of a year, especially if you have a dog (we don't, but since the fish snuffed it, he has renewed his badgering for one).

So £8 a go at Thorpe isn't too bad, I just object to paying for it.

But for a £30 fee you get 1000s of parking opportunities at houses, parks and countryside estatea and its standard and is not a premium pass. The carparks are often well maintained, open 24/7. Often include loos and tourist guides and are quick and easy to exit. Thorpe on the otherhand is a gravel pit, busy when exiting.

I get your point but your description of the Thorpe Car Park is the exact same for Colley Hill and Devils Dyke, I know it's fashionable to hate on everything Merlin (guilty as charged) but I've never really had a problem with their car parks, I only object when I get told to park in a waterlogged one, and then have to pay for the privilege.

Whilst I don’t agree on 3 price increases within 18 months I do have to say unfortunately Thorpe are stuck with how the car park is. Pretty certain it was said elsewhere that the reason for the part tarmac and gravel is because the risk of flooding and the gravel allows natural drainage.

Can't believe it I'm waiting in colossus queue and some prat has pulled on air gates and ride is shut down. I say ride batcher should escort the culprit through the queue line to the enterence to see if they enjoy our comments back to them

Is it that bad there today? I suggest finding a quiet spot and putting your feet up for a couple hours, come 8pm everything that is left running will be wall on.

Something isn’t right when Colossus is 90min but rest of big rides is 20min or less.

My son was sitting on them at the Annual Pass Evening thing till I dragged him off, he didn't set any alarms off or estopped anything then? Is this a new thing or just an over eager ride op?

I'd disagree, the airgates seemed to have a new system on them 2 weeks ago when I visited, there were shiny new black boxes with red and green LEDs on them down by the base of each gate near the hinge, when they opened and closed the lights flashed a lot.
Maybe the new system is more sensitive?

They’ve been there for a few seasons, I swing on stealth’s gates (I know I really shouldn’t) and it doesn’t shut the ride down.

Fair play, the Intamin airgates are more responsive to tomfoolery than those by other manufactures. I'm not sure if it's a case of them being more sensitive to movement or more prone to movement via the actions of @spinba11 and others.

It's quite painful for operators on rides like El Toro and the like.
