Thorpe Park: General Discussion

When exiting nemesis last weekend I saw a security guy with an attack/guard dog by the maze exit. What’s that all about? Or is that an extra cost add on scare?

It' was probably a drugs dog, there was two there yesterday in the foyer, a golden lab and a black lab, I briefly chatted with the handler during a quiet period after my wife got all goey eyed at it (the dog not sitting down helped).

It was quiet amusing listening to the naivety of the GP as they passed it in the tunnel, if you were picked out, you were discreetly taken to a small area to the left and patted down, so let that be a lesson to anybody thinking of taking weed in.

Back of Nemesis is the easiest place to get stuff in you don't want to take through security since Monks Walk runs alongside, that might explain why it was where it was.

There are still other ways to bring in illicit substances!

Yup but we won't go there other than to say I could have had anything danger-wise on me and they'd have never known since they didn't search me (metal scanners were turned off and not used and I was waved through without a second look), the only thing that took any interest was the dog who had a good sniff of my crutch before moving on to the next person, about five people behind he sat next to, the girl was like a www cute dog, handler was like please follow me madam.

I still maintain if you are going to enforce "guilty before innocence" type security checks, at least do them properly, make everybody walk through the tower and search bags properly, they guy barey looked at my wife's bag and missed half the pockets. Just because we're white middle aged, doesn't make us any less likely to go insane,

Has anybody done the 4D cinema during Fright Nights? I'm interested in what actually happens in as the few surprises like advertised?

Have to agree about security, they have the equipment there but didn’t see anyone get sent via the scanner.
Security were helpfully telling people buy parking before leaving or it’s £15 to get out.

Colossus back row had parcel tape over bits of the seat and padding.

Still don’t like this new audio, the director theme whilst dated is 100% better.

Operations on rides were on a go slow which is normal this time of year but the loss of baggage drop off on Swarm really has affected it. There were a couple of times people had kept their handbag and zipped up coat which the resulted in seat not closing, staff then trying to force it closed only to be told I’ve got my bag.

Lots of police about with security which is reassuring given the past few years

Agree with that, it’s stupid if they are that concerned about security and bags yet anyone could take prohibited items in via a done up coat!

Ok checking everyone will cause delays but Pleasure Beach do it (ok dodgy scanners there as well) but at least it’s an actual deterrent

Yup, you did...

Best security I've come across was London Eye, full height scanner, pat down, wand and bag X-Ray, you'd have to do good to get something past them, but then they were a tad more intelligent than Thorpe's security and knew what both an ecigarette and battery box was - a whole four years ago too.

100% agree on the eye security, they don’t half like copping a feel as the girlfriend says :D Even Tussauds London is more efficient than Thorpe.

On a security note, do Chessington operate searches? Only ever gone in via hotel so no idea

We went in to the angry birds which was 4D but no one actually knew they were queueing up for angry birds which was quite amusing.
However screamplex or whatever it’s called.
We were taken into the theatre, sat down and told that no 4D effects will be working, she did however explain to us that usually there would be water sprays and moving seats (which we knew having just watched angry birds earlier) we then watched a short, independant film about a vampire.
Unless they’ve actually fixed the 4D effects now, I’d rather queue for Vulcan peako_O

Yes, there's always a bag search at a minimum. Last year for Howloween they were also using a wand to check for metal and asking you to empty your pockets. However I don't think they operate to that level normally, only during late night events.
