Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Re: Thorpe Park

Well, considering Batman is going backwards at Six Flags St Louis, this rumour seems more creditable now...

It could be good, but, then again, it could be bad.

We'll just have to wait and see.

Surely this would void the ride's warranty?

Only if they were doing it themselves with no B&M involvement, surely? If B&M have agreed to it then I presume there would be no issues.

Re: Thorpe Park

I would laugh if it was a in house job, then B&M visit a few weeks later and are shocked by what they find :p

However im pretty sure with a brand new ride like this you would do it through B&M!

Thorpe Park

You would have to do it through B&M really, for the safety of running the ride with modifications.

Re: Thorpe Park

It may be fun... I'm surprised I'm only just hearing about this,

My thinking is that they may be referring to Nemesis Inferno, just because it sounds like Six Flags may try it with Batman. So if it's B&M approved, then they have the alternative seat design already. (I don't know anything about that though, so I may be wrong entirley).

It'll be interesting to try, I'm sure if it's a failure it'll give us another joke to say on meets, so not all is lost.

Re: Thorpe Park

Plus the fact if they did it themselves any warranty they have with B&M would probably become void. I would assume any modifications that they do to the ride has to go through B&M first (or at least discussed with them in some way).

Going backwards, while good to market - I just don't see the excitement. Seems a bit of a gimmick more than anything else in my opinion.

Re: Thorpe Park

I wonder why they didn't do it on something like Nemesis Inferno instead? Nemesis Inferno gets a lot of stick for not being as good as a certain other B&M inverted coaster in the UK, so a backwards row on that might boost its popularity a little (it won't make it great, but it might make it a little more interesting).

Some are saying that turning the back row around on Batman over at Six Flags St Louis may be a bad idea because of how intense it already is, so making Nemesis Inferno's back row pack a little more punch seems like a better idea.

I guess we'll have to wait and see if 1) it actually happens to the Swarm and 2) what it's like if it indeed does get the back row flipped. I wouldn't have thought that this would be as a test to see how a 4D wing coaster would work as it'd most likely be a completely different set-up for all of the bits inside that would make the seats spin.

Edit: I see Fredward has beaten me to the Nemesis Inferno suggestion. :p

Re: Thorpe Park

Somebody posted this rather odd photo on twitter last night of Hollywood Dream at Hollywood Studios Japan.

I don't think hair goes backwards on air time roller coasters. So maybe the rumours of The Swarm and Batman The Ride going backwards really does hold ground. ???

Re: Thorpe Park

It was confirmed yesterday at an ACE convention that one of the B&M Batman coasters will run backwards this year. Judging off a following tweet which teased when asked for more info, it looks like it will be at Six Flags Great America.

...so it could be possible for Thorpe to do something similar to The Swarm.

Re: Thorpe Park

Well this is a surprise.... NOT

"We have a surprise for you!"

If it is what I think it is... please god no...

Re: Thorpe Park

I think we've reached the stage now where more people would be surprised if it turns out the back two rows haven't been turned around...

Re: Thorpe Park

It looks like the front row in that image has been turned around. I hope that's not the case, as that would spoil the front row view of the ride.

Re: Thorpe Park

So the Swarm will be flying around attacking us and there'll just be one confused and stupid one at the back of them which is flying around looking the wrong way!? :p

Edit: Now two confused and stupid Swarm creatures! :D

Re: Thorpe Park

Why? Was last year a failure?? I really dont see why on a new ride? Whilst the concept is cool, it just doesn't fit right.

Re: Thorpe Park

What kind of irritating me about this is that they've obviously done it to try and make the ride more popular and attract more people, yet 2013 is almost guaranteed to be more popular than last year without all the special events going on that drew people away from the Theme Parks.
So does this mean that when turning the carts around seems to be a success they’ll claim it’s purely because of this and start turning other rides around, not just at Thorpe Park?

I’m a strong believer that whichever direction a ride has been designed to face should be the one it remains as otherwise you are compromising the designers vision. While I admit experiencing Swarms first drop backwards sounds interesting I don’t think it’ll benefit the rest of the layout and I’d hate to see other rides get the same treatment.

In other news as soon as that canvas comes off and they reveal exactly how they've done it expect an updated RCT3 CTR for The Swarm with both designs in about half an hour later :D unless they’ve radically changed the design
I may be against the idea but I see no reason not to cash in on it ;)

Re: Thorpe Park

I blame reverse POVs.

Typical Thorpe, they add something brilliant one year and ruin it the next. The back left was the best seat as well.

Hardly anyone got the chance to ride it in its original configuration and they're already changing it. It just makes no sense. If it was an aging ride that was losing popularity, I could see where they were coming from, (I would still hate the modification though). But this only its second season; let everyone have a go before you go chopping and changing things, Thorpe.

Hopefully after saying that, it's just some new on ride video cameras or something.

Maybe B&M are roadtesting some form of seat rotation?

They are certainly working on 4D and it is a slight possibility that this could be related. Just seems a strange way to test it to me, they wouldn't ahcieve all that much.

After the 2012 season Thorpe had gone up in my thoughts; The Swarm was a good addition which I enjoyed and they opened the best foot outlet ever, Roast and Relish. For 2013 Thorpe are plummeting in my epxectations thanks to this stupid idea.

:)
