Thank you for explaining. You are right that it isn't necessarily the least popular at towers. I can understand not removing it to prevent uproar from enthusiasts but actively investing money into the coaster? It just doesn't seem realistic in my opinion. The only situation in which I can imagine that happening is if B&M throw in the re-track as a freebie.

There's not much else that would fit in the pit anyway. I don't want to be on the planet when Nemmy is finally retired for good though!

    Aaaaanyway, Thorpe Park anyone? :p

@Matt N basically summarised what I would respond to this but how on earth do you come to the conclusion its the least popular ride on park? It's no where near. I'd say galactica is less popular than nemesis by a decent amount.

Sorry for the double post but there are considerable weight behind the idea that Merlin have done a multi-ride deal with B&M that could well include a nemesis retrack and although probably not free it's probably been made significantly cheaper.

Steel coasters have a shelf life of around 30 years, and are usually removed around that time scale, there are many examples of this around the world. Corkscrew was removed as it was coming close to being there 30 years and was at the end of it's shelf life. Some coasters though are just too iconic to remove as the park just wouldn't be the same without them. The Big One at Blackpool, which is currently (gradually) being re-tracked and Nemesis very much fall into this category. If they have done a multi-coaster deal with B&M then the price of this would be lower than if they just decided to do it as a one off thing, not to mention they already have the blue-prints and designs and everything so no R&D costs, it would be like any other cloned ride, as it will essentially be a clone of itself which also brings costs down. Also what would they even replace it with? The hole was literally designed specifically for Nemesis, i'm sure they have actually considered the possibility of replacing it with something different and likely have designed or attempted to design something that could use the same hole, but it would have to be something very special or the backlash to it would be huge.

Guys I know there's something to be said for looking back at past coasters a little bit, but we're dropping into the history of Nemesis etc just a little too much. If we could stick to the topic of Thorpe and the potential new addition a little more it'd be much appreciated :)

Back on the subject of Thorpe, it's been confirmed that Old Town will not be re-opening in 2022!

Really don't see the point in a B and M flyer when the park already has a wing coaster (pretty sure Six Flags Great America is the only park with both ride types).

Not to mention it impedes on Galacticas uniqueness.

I think a launched B&M flyer could work, with elements similar to those on Starry Sky Ripper and Flying Dinosaur would be different enough from Galactica, certainly more different than Inferno is to Nemesis. Also this may be a controversial opinion but I don't think Flyers and Wing Coasters are too similar, very different sensations IMO.

If they went with an RMC then it could be the world's tallest hybrid coaster, they could also go for steepest hybrid although that would be kind of pointless as it would probably not be as steep as the coaster right next to it.

A Mack Extreme spinner would also be a good fit for that area, and Thorpe in general.

But my money is on this being a B&M Hyper, UK's tallest coaster. Maybe they'll surprise us with a Giga

I think given previous additions and the non-success of some major CAPEX additions at Thorpe, I’d argue whatever this ‘new addition’ turns out to be, would need to be easily marketable and not too risky. If you create something too complex and/or risky which isn’t easily communicable, there’s danger of another failure.

I’d be surprised if this isn’t a B&M Hyper with the UK’s tallest coaster as its USP- easily marketable, easy to understand, would sell itself well, and offers something different to the line-up they already have.

Throughput on a ride like a B&M hyper would work wonders for the park presuming they don’t put seat belts on it. Even SeaWorld Orlando’s mediocre operations can get 1400 per hour through Mako.

I don’t think they’d bother with seatbelts; Wicker Man doesn’t have seatbelts, and that’s on a ride type that comes with them by default!

Sorry to double post, but dependant on whether there are any enthusiasts local enough to Thorpe to qualify, we may be getting leaks a day earlier than we thought; Thorpe are holding in-person consultations for locals only at 3pm and 7pm on Thursday 9th December, with the website going live on Friday 10th December.

Also, question to the moderators; will a separate topic be required for exclusive discussion of the new ride once the details are confirmed (I only ask as I remember Derren Brown getting its own separate topic), or will everything about it just stay in the regular Thorpe thread?

As per any major new development in a park, this will get its own topic.

I know Thorpe Park is Jack Silkstone's home park, but not sure how close.

I'd hope anyone visiting these local planning things are doing it for the right reasons (I.e. the construction affects their everyday life).

Those who go just to get the inside track on the development are completely ignoring the real aim of these meetings. Especially when they're officially announcing the thing to everyone the next day.

Gotta get those YouTube hits I guess.

Provided the people live locally I don't see the issue with local enthusiasts going to speak in favour of the construction.
