Thorpe Park: General Discussion

From: https://twitter.com/ThorpeParkMania/status/1853171637627056519

Something is happening shortly for the beach party event mentioned in the poster.

I'm assuming the park have caught on with the beach party speculation and directed everyone at the beach to Creature Campus instead rather than have everyone congregate outside the beach.

Oooh well spotted! I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
So, if the beach is going I think there may be a clue in the poster as to what is replacing it, area name wise anyway.
My guess would be a new area called "Park Central", the possible clue being the DJ names.

Good guess! Park Central is a fantastic name for a new area.

Sounds good, the park needs more event space for sure. Everytime I've visited the 'beach' has just looked abandoned.

Think that's exactly what's needed, especially for Fright Nights and similar events. They had a good audience for the shows but having everyone standing around in a thoroughfare and only minimal seating wasn't ideal.

I do hope they've thought about where to put the bar.

Guess it’s an improvement on the Shark cabins. I still think it’s a massive shame the original Thorpe hotel never materialised. Having the boat to get to the park would have been great!

The general style of this new concept, coupled with the relatively low room number makes me wonder if they’re maybe angling for corporate bookings for things like conferences and away days rather than purely catering to families and general guests (which I’m assuming is what Shark will continue to serve). With Thorpe’s location you’d think it’d be a no-brainer to try and tap into that market, but the current offering certainly isn’t fit for that sort of purpose.

You had me worried there when I started reading your post, for a moment I thought that you meant it was actually on fire in a German theme park ride going up in flames kind of way.
Luckily it was Thorpe Park News and not Thorpe Park itself. I would also panic if I saw that it was actually on fire tonight.

I hope that any more news will come out another night, if news on either Slammer replacement, Rumba Rapids removal/replacement or a new coaster on RMC Island come out tonight, that may break the internet 😳

Although the style of that hotel doesn’t feel like it exactly fits with Thorpe Park as it currently is. The newer one although not exactly right is a more modern design and style.

The beach replacement looks good, and great location to have something like that at the entrance of the park. Will be interesting to see how Lucifers Lair and Oktoberfest evolve in a new space.

Also interested to see what it will for used for the remainder of the year while events aren't on though. Hope they won't go back to blaring pop music or cringy shows from the 'Thrill makers'

If that area is accessible in the morning maybe a countdown of some sort before the park opens at 10?

Hotel wise, the proposals from the previous hotel looked a lot nicer.

Seems this is smaller too. 100 rooms whereas the one they previously got planning permission for was 250.

Good to see they're at least looking at a business case for a hotel again though - would be nice to see a permanent hotel.

I've just come across this document which does confirm this area will be accessible before the park opens.

'The proposed new seating and gathering area will provide a location for visitors to dwell when they arrive in the morning prior to the rides opening, and after they have passed through the ticket kiosks and security/bag check. This will assist in reducing queues and improve guest experience.'

It also states that the stage will host up to 18 shows/events over the season in addition to the entertainment already provided. So sounds like they're planning additional events over summer maybe? I know they used to hold some concert type events (back in 2015/16 maybe) but unsure how successful they were?

'In addition, it is proposed that the stage will host up to 18 shows/events over the season for bands where the music will be louder and more like a concert format (capacity of 2,000 guests). These events will take place through the year. To protect residential amenity, noise levels will be reduced at 11pm to the pre-agreed park levels.'

'The only new activities will comprise up to a maximum of 18 days per annum where events can take place up to 95dBA within the audience area. These events will be carefully managed and will end at 11:00pm.'

To dwell on something is to think, speak, or write at length about a particular subject, especially one that is a source of unhappiness, anxiety, or dissatisfaction. Feels such a very good word to describe a bunch of people at Thorpe at the start of the day contemplating their choices.

I really don't like this. Yes, the beach had become an underused and pointless space, but to a stage and empty expanse in this prominent spot, as the first thing many will see on arrival, it just feels a bit crap.
