Thorpe Park: General Discussion

Re: Thorpe Park

The Summer Nights aren't attracting as many guests as TP require to keep them going. Whilst smaller guest numbers means better experiences for these late night riders, as an event, don't expect it to last.

That said, there's only two weeks left of what we term as "Summer" anyway.

They're attracting enough I've heard? It was always billed to be as dead as it is, and it must make money, even if small amounts.

Can always build it up for next year, get a reputation and brand in. No harm if it makes money, which it would be doing.

On only one night have they reached their target to "break even". That is the exact wording being used, too.

Well they added a further 2 weeks of them at the end of the month so they cant be too disappointed with the turn out!

I'm going to throw something out here, I don't think Thorpe Park is fun.

Fun to me is a day out where you have loads of different experiences, so feeding lorikeets one moment and then riding a massive rollercoaster the next. Fun is the look of horror on people's faces as they see that the room is going upside down but they're not going upside down. Fun can be seen in seaside humour, dark rides and even Safari Skyway.

Thorpe Park to me is rushing from one thrill to the next, which works fine until you get THORPE PARK HEAD ACHE, where because all you've done all day is go upside down, or go as quick as you can as fast as you can in themed environments where fun doesn't naturally occur (Saw, The Swarm and so on) there's a sense of fun missing. Don't get me wrong I love Thorpe Park because it has the rebellious teenage spirit, if Chessington and Alton are the loving bussom of the Merlin chain then Thorpe Park is the 17 year old, but it just needs more... Fun?

A decent dark ride, an experience ride, something that doesn't try to rip my head off would give some balance. I'd love to see some fun brought back to Thorpe Park.

Hopefully we will see better variety with the next few new rides, X was a very encouraging sign, of them wanting more then thrill. Unlike you though, I don't find Thorpe Park fun, because I don,t think Thorpe is thrilling enough with its existing rides. Thorpe Park should take a page out of Lightwater Valley's book, and make their existing flats have better settings, whilst providing a relaxing and interesting set of family rides

Those dates had already been created, but not announced as they wanted to be a 'limited' thing. IF you go ahead and announce a limited event with multiple dates, it suddenly doesn't sound so limited.

Re: Thorpe Park

They are certainly new dates, Thorpe Park were replying to people saying there were no more Summer Nights till these new ones were announced..

Anyway in other news Thorpe have confirmed to TPM there will be a Pass holder preview for Fright nights, the dates are to be extended and the mazes will remain open till 22:00 each night, rides will close between 21:00 and 22:00 depending on demand :)

Re: Thorpe Park

Fright Nights has a new logo:

Apparently, that's not the only thing to change this year as well!

Re: Thorpe Park

They have already announced the some maze changes and its strongly rumoured they are getting in IP in for it.

Plus mazes will open an hour longer, some rumbles that more mazes will be charged too.

Re: Thorpe Park

I'm really looking forward to seeing what they announce, and if it sounds good then I'll certainly try to pay a visit! I'm actually more excited about this than Scarefest at the moment.

:)

Re: Thorpe Park

There is definitely an exciting vibe coming out of Thorpe at the moment. The experimentation with Summer Nights has been great and this years Fright Nights is their first attempt to do an event under 'new' branding.

I wonder if they will include anything family-scare oriented this year and equally whether fireworks will make a comeback maybe next season too?

Re: Thorpe Park

I can certainly say this year's fright night will be the biggest thing we've ever seen in this country. I'll be avoiding it like the plague, but I think many will be happy!

Re: Thorpe Park

Yesterday Thorpe Park launched Reserve n Ride on The Swarm as a trial.

During the trial to ride The Swarm guests will need to login on their smart phone and book a time or if they dont have access to a phone, collect a timed paper ticket. The ultimate aim of this is for them to become the worlds first queue free theme park (quite a high ambition!!!)

Ha! I wish them all the best with that. :p

Re: Thorpe Park

Wait a sec, printed tickets? Isn't this just the same system that we used to have before paid fastrack was introduced?

And how exactly is this going to work? Will there now be a fourth queue for Swarm? If so, I pitty whoever is on merge. It's hard enough for them trying to juggle fastrack, normal, and backwards as it is.

Re: Thorpe Park

This replaces the main queue, everyone must have a pre booked time to ride which is where its different to previous systems.

In theory if all the maths is worked out correctly there's no reason why it wouldnt work... but that really is in theory!

Pretty much. :p

Re: Thorpe Park

It is certainly an intriguing idea. Will be interesting to see how successful this is.

Re: Thorpe Park

Not very I imagine :p

People like the freedom to ride things as and when they please. The only times timed slots really works is on Fastrack, as it allows for better queue management. But ask most people and they would no doubt say they prefer freedom to come and go over being told when they will ride.

It's good to see Thorpe trying to take their queue management seriously, as the place really struggles with them on busier days, but I can't see this being the way forward personally.
