Thorpe Park: General Discussion

saw video of some of the work happening:

From: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7u-Yb-00kQ

They said the smaller beach area may open,

The last call cafe is being expanded into the gift shop area,
I think hyperia is looking better with the grass,

The splash down is being assesed for the continued viability (big surpise, can't really see it, and it will just increase the rate of wear of the surrounding track and components),

slammer is gone,

colossus repaint continus

foliage arround rush, zodiac etc looks much better (I recall when I went I didn't see any benches there)

along side any testing

The area behind swarm had quite a lot of activity last year judging by Google maps. I'm guessing this could just have been for assisting with the hyperia construction needing soil or dumping soil but still some activity.

Surely that’s not for Hyperia’s construction? They put all the supports and track before they installed them.

I'm fairly certain this (and Rumba Rapids) would be the expansion site for the next project(s).

With both sites and possibly some infilling, it could offer a massive space for Merlin to play with.

You could get at least two or three (possibly more) major attractions meaning coaster, dark or water rides along with multiple flats.

I think the potential with the combined site of Treasure Island, the scrapped 2015 coaster site and Rumba Rapids will offer something huge.

Sorry to double post however looking at the site, it seems the space (including lake space on both sides of the island) could account to expand the park by almost half of it's existing footprint as of now.

There does seem to be space on the lakes by Lost City for some expansion but not as much as the side by Swarm, Rumba and Stealth without ruining the island feel and it may not be as needed with the side by Rumba.

It seems like Thorpe Park's expansion space might not be as limited as I first thought initially.

I think Thorpe park has huge amounts of expansion land if needed, probably the most out of all parks in the UK. Not only is there the land here there is land that has previously been earmarked for a hotel next to the car parks. I think somewhere I saw that Thorpe was the second largest theme park in the UK based on true size however I guess a lot of this is the surrounding lakes. It doesn't seem like this would stop them though as the island behind swarm never even existed back in 2005 and just sits vacant. This is the same for swarm and saw.

Just for fun here is the same shot over the years.

Here I am with one of my 'am I just imagining this or...' posts 😂 BUT... I could have sworn they are required to have a certain amount of 'island' so Swarm island was created when they removed land from somewhere else to 'balance' things but they can't just fill in the lake to expand. It may have been a rumour, it may have been a conversation I had during my time with the company, it may just be my imagination at this point, I can never be sure 😂😬

Ohhh, I swear I saw something about Thorpe Farm and how some of the unused areas there was used for the lake a while back.

I've looked it up to recall and found on Attraction Source that parts of the farm site has been used to expand the lake slightly to provide flood storage for the infilled areas for theme park expansion.

I can see a degree of truth and logic behind it however not 100% sure if this will hinder expansion, if they can work around it or if they can use the lake to their advantage.

It doesn't look like this is the case. All the new space has been created by adding new islands or expanding the main island. I'm not sure if they have reached the maximum on this but anything seems possible. Google earth goes back to 2003 and I don't see that they have moved land around, they have simply filled in the lake over the years to expand the park.

pretty sure they have maxed out their infill opportunity. To complete the infill they already have they had to convert some of the old farm land to flood capacity (can’t remember if they expanded the lake in that direction of just allowed it to become a flood plane).

However, the council are unlikely to allow anymore infill without digging out other areas to ensure flood protection and I am not sure Thorpe own enough land on the banks of the lake that would be suitable to dig out to allow further expansion.

Wait..... is that what I think it is? The April fool's gag about Towers getting a "shark coaster" from Live and Kicking‽ I thought I was the only one who remembered that. Never been able to find it online. I was starting to think I imagined it!

It is! I was the same, swore I’d seen it but could never find it. The clip was briefly on YouTube but was removed sadly, still remember it vividly though!

Didn’t realise it was a joke at the time and spent years waiting for it to be built 😳
