Towers Loving Care

Sorry to but this so bluntly but with what's going on in getting rarther annoyed!

Praise where it's due the improvements do look promising!

But as for closing attractions and food outlets it really is BEYOND A JOKE.

We all know what happened with The Smiler, yes it was tragic but they can't just keep pinning the blame on this. Cuts were happening long before that happened! Example last year staggered area openings, food outlets shut, reduced ride time.

It's a multi billion pound company for Christ sake. They need to stop feeling sorry for themselves and bloody plow the money back in for Christ sake!

People are still going to visit either way and having things shut really isn't the right way to go about it. It's just pathetic.

You can try divine intervention on this Freakout, but I don't think it will work.

And remember, WARDLEY'S sake...

PS. Stop trying to out rant me! :D

no more scaffold?!

think I'm having heart palpitations ooooooh

URGH!!! :mad::mad::mad:

No, no, no, no!!! Just no! Pure and simple "no". Accept the "no". Welcome the "no" into your life. Be at one with the "no".

All they're doing is covering the bloody scaffold with wooden cladding. You can see it above the opening.

The only way I could ever forgive them for a tunnel is if they were to plant an enormous amount of big trees around it to hide the thing. Ya know, make this place an ACTUAL Dark Forest?

Thorpe STILL don't have silly tunnels running under Stealth, so why can't Towers just do the proper modification to make it safe?

Sort your life out Alton Towers, you're a mess!

It's costing so much because they left it so long

Pray tell, enlighten me how a Nemesis track repaint would cost less if it were done any other year? (Taking inflation out of the question of course) If you're suggesting they repaint the station one year and the track another, that would look awful and no doubt fuel the complaints machine with enthusiasts.

To be fair to Alton they have done bits here and there over the years, for instance Oblivion had a repaint a few years back when The Smiler was installed.

I like the idea of it being all done at once, it will give a new fresh feel to the park IMO

I maintain I'd bet a team pushed hard to get this through, that team deserves great credit - this kind of stuff would not get done at Towers IMO without quite a fight or determination!

That's conjecture though. I admire the fact you think the team have that much influence but this will have come from the top as Varney stated the park was going to get a makeover in a statement last year. It'll be in response to last years poor visitor numbers and It's a chance to market the place with a fresh new feel via the TLC Twitter.

If the marketing by-product is a 'fresh faced' Alton Towers then it's always going to be a thumbs up from me. :D

I've really got to take my hat off to Alton for the TLC. This is beyond what I really expected. I just hope that this TLC program continues with this level of care every winter.

I fully agree. They could quiet easily have some themed artificial trees covering the inside and out site of this tunnel! Could also have some scary evil looking trees with faces on.

I was thinking the same, the cost of a specialist team to shotblast and repaint the track is going to be the same no matter if you wait five years. The only issue would be if the track had actually gone rusty, but that would be picked up in the normal winter maintainance inspection and the individual spot sanded down and painted.

Cleaning I guess is worse if left (for example the green mould on the Twirling Toadstool annoyed me) and it might take one hour to clean this year or two hours next year if left.

Except it's not easy as it would probably have to go through Merlin $tudios where a simple fake tree from a discount store would be billed at £100,000.

I'm still dubious behind the reasoning for so much attention to Nemesis' Track but it looks good. The Leek signs and painted shutters look ok but it really is laughable that they are trying to make closed things look nicer.

I'm so glad they're finally doing *something* in Dark Forest... Yes it's always been a bit of a crap theme but if we're going to have to live with a terrible tunnel then I'm pleased it's finally being made into a permanent structure.

Along with this I would love to see some themed elements added to it when completed, along with a tidy up of Rita's queue and a repaint of the F&B units... A guy can dream right?

If Rita's getting attention seen to it, I would've used the chance to paint the track green to help, at least in a small way, give a forest feel, even though when you look at the area, you'd probably laugh. I know the idea of Rita in green has been mentioned a few times on here, but personally I think it should be done if Rita is getting a potential paint job, then go for it.

A tunnel made of fencning is better than a tunnel made of scaffolding. Of course it's not ideal but at least it looks like it will be far more presentable!

Dark Forest needs flattening and starting again but that is for another topic!

:)

From those photos it looks like themed fencing, not a tunnel. The way the tops of the panels look too rustic. Great news that the scaffold is gone

That tunnel is terrible. Sure it looks better than the bare scaffolding, but come on. It looks like two random fences with a bit of wood between them, the way the sides extend over the top and go up and down just looks odd.

I quite obviously have been referring, as have others, throughout this whole topic about the ENTIRETY of the project and how it will be one big budget blast rather than spaced out. ( I do share your view however, that it will look brilliant being done in one go).

And if you're familiar with maintenance, no it generally doesn't cost as much when you keep on top of things, as they don't need as much repair. Prevention is better than cure. What we have now, is cure, not prevention - but that wasn't really the point I was making anyway.

And I think it's rather easy if you read into others posts, who generally know their stuff, that people HAVE been working and nagging to get stuff like this done, hence the point, it's a time to show appreciation for it.

They were not so subtle hints...

It's clearly unfinished in the picture... At least the wood has been shaped rather than being left as a plain wooden box. The fact they've done that fills me with some hope that it might receive some themed touched.

I really do think we should wait and see what the tunnel is like once complete. One of the biggest complaints over the last couple of years at Towers from us has been the awful scaffold tunnel, and rightly so. Despite the fact that I see no good reason for a tunnel, H&S are adamant that something has to be there. So at least Towers have actually listened to us and are trying to improve how it looks. Should we really be moaning about that? They were never going to have a large budget to actually build a proper immersive tunnel.

I wasn't expecting them to do anything with it so am pleasantly surprised. If it still doesn't look great come March 19th then fair enough, but it can't be worse than it was. We should give them a chance to show us that it can be better, surely?

:)

It does look a bit like garden fencing. Although this really is the best we will get from Towers right now. I will take a wooden tunnel over a scaffolding one any day. It looks like it's meant to be there, rather than the scaffolding which looked temporary and honestly, gave the impression the area was a health and safety hazard! At least a wooden tunnel will be more pleasing to the eye.

I think some fake vines or lighting will break it up a bit.
