TowersStreet Planet Coaster Speed Build Contest 2023/24: Winners Declared (contest ended 16th March)

Sorry to double post, but just as a reminder for everyone else, we are now half way through Week 11.

I’ve had 2 responses to the Round 10 Voting Google Form so far, including my own. If you’d like to vote for your Round 10 favourites, here’s the form allowing you to do so: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScpi4xSUn9Th6BI93RpbzJbB1uEMYHFU9OUNtXT7e3Hgfoy-Q/viewform

There have been 2 submissions for Round 11 so far, including my own. If you would like a deadline extension for Round 11, please notify me before the deadline and I would be happy to facilitate one for you. If you have any issues with uploading videos or anything at all, get in touch with me and I would be very happy to solve these issues for you. If you do not get into contact with me before the deadline, I will assume that you are happy forfeiting this round and move on.

The deadline for both Round 11 building and Round 10 voting is Thursday 29th February 2024 at 11:45pm. The Week 11 Weekly Digest will be posted on Friday 1st March 2024 at 12am.

I’ve noticed that we seem to be quite low on engagement so far this week, and there are only 2 days to go. Would people like me to extend Round 11 building and Round 10 voting by another week? Due to me being away over the weekend, I can’t really extend to any earlier than Monday, and at that point, I figure that I might as well just give an extra week.

Would people like an extension, or are we happy without?

I've actually done mine (and it's ridiculous), I just need my 'ickle baby girl to get off my PlayStation to finish and upload.

Pulsar

Length: 9781ft
Max speed: 107mph
Biggest drop: 720ft
9 airtime moments, 3 vertical launches with a drop stall finale, full coaster layout, and definitely no broken necks.

I tried so hard to build around the structure I made, polercoaster style, but I do not have the PC chops for it. :tearsofjoy:

Awesome submission @cloudburster! Your ride has some huge drops, awesome airtime and fun-looking turns!

If you don’t mind me asking, what exactly is a novacoaster? (Your ride is described as a B&M novacoaster in the video title)

You’ve also managed to create far better-looking vertical launches than I’ve ever managed there… for some reason, mine always seem to really slow down when they get to the vertical part, whereas you seem to have mastered keeping the speed!

Just creative licensing on my part, ala hyper > giga > strata > exo > nova-coaster, as in supernova. Doesn't make much sense now I think about it, but it's all fun and games haha.

Re the vertical launch, I just make sure the acceleration is turned up a bit and that the train has enough speed running into the launch. It's the first time I've used them and not hated them!

So, how would Anton Schwarzkopf do such a thing? He wouldn't, but this is how I imagine things would go down after far too much drink and drugs. Definitely didn't feature me panicking after seeing the deadline was shorter than usual.

15 inversions including a figure 8 loop attempt and 19050ft long to be the world's longest coaster with 1600pph as well.

Great submission @Poisson! The scale of your ride is obscene, and it has some fun airtime moments and inversions!
A rush job I'm afraid because it turned out I didn't save the one I did earlier in the week.

I'll call it Silly Coaster because it really is a bit silly.

Great submission @Matt.GC! Your ride has a nice mix of hangtime, airtime and inversions, and with the various high-up tight turns and hangtimey inversions, it kind of reminds me of an S&S El Loco (albeit a vastly upscaled one)!

Great round, everybody! Let's now move onto Round 11 voting...
Round 11 Voting
Round 11 is finished and the submissions are in, so the voting stage can now begin!

Please vote for your Round 11 favourites via this Google Form: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSf4L2CHd-N3xkbEBemdE-Stav2ksXZcy2dlR5AgTQg3O7Lx0A/viewform

Let me just recap a few things about voting, if you need a reminder:
  • If you're not clear on how I'd like you to vote; please pick your top 5 track layouts and rank them in order of preference from #1 to #5. Therefore, if you give a player a particular ranking, the points allocated are as follows; #1 ranking = 5pts, #2 ranking = 4pts, #3 ranking = 3pts, #4 ranking = 2pts, #5 ranking = 1pt.
  • You will also receive the opportunity to nominate a submission for Most Realistic or Most Original if you wish. These nominations are not compulsory; you can award them if you would like to, but you do not have to nominate anyone for Most Realistic or Most Original. Each Most Realistic or Most Original nomination a player gets will grant them 1 Realism point or 1 Originality point, respectively.
  • Please only fill out this form once. I have not mandated this within the form itself, but I'm trusting you all here.
  • Please do not vote for yourself. I know that there is no way I can mandate this, but I trust you not to. Please can I request that you only nominate submissions that are not your own.
  • The overall ranking spots from #1 to #5 are designed to be mutually exclusive; one submission cannot have more than one ranking spot. As an example; if you rank a submission as your #1, you cannot also rank it as your #2. Please only give each submission one ranking spot. The exception to this is nominations for Most Realistic and Most Original; in these instances, the same submission can be nominated for both categories, and submissions already nominated within your top 5 can also be nominated for one or both of these categories. Within the main #1-#5 ranking, though; please allocate only one ranking spot per submission.
  • Please judge submissions on track layout only. This is a coaster layout building contest; theming is pretty much irrelevant here.
  • I know that this form of voting is more anonymous than some may like. If you would like to add a slightly more personal touch, you can post a comment in this thread indicating your top 5 choices, as well as any Most Realistic and/or Most Original nominations. However, can I please request that the Google Form is your first port of call for voting; I will only count votes cast within the Google Form, as if you post in this thread, I wouldn't like to assume whether you've already voted in the Google Form or not. Post your choices in the thread by all means, but please make sure that you log your votes within the Google Form first, as the votes within the Google Form are the votes I'll be counting.
Here is a reminder of everyone's submissions so that you know what you're voting for:
  • Ascension, a Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster by @Matt N:
  • Floridian Fling, an Intamin Wing Coaster by @RicketyCricket:
  • Pulsar, a B&M Novacoaster by @cloudburster:
  • Donald Trump's Biggly Scary Coaster, a Gerstlauer Euro-Fighter by @Thameslink Rail:
  • Unnamed Schwarzkopf looping coaster by @Poisson:
  • Silly Coaster, a Gerstlauer Infinity Coaster by @Matt.GC:

Voting for Round 11 closes on Friday 8th March 2024 at 11:45pm, and the results will be revealed as part of the Week 13 Weekly Digest.

Now that we've covered Round 11 voting, I think it's about time that I revealed the next round...
Bonus Round Building
Now that our Round 11 submissions have been built and submitted, I think it's about time that I revealed the next round! I can in fact reveal that Round 11 was the last regular round of the contest... but do take careful note of the word regular in that statement. I couldn't let the contest end without a little... bonus, could I?

Yes, folks; the Bonus Round is back for another year!

After 11 rounds with tough constraint, I think it's high time that we let our hair down and built a little more freely. In this round, you have carte blanche to build whatever you want; the only constraint in the Bonus Round is your own creativity!

As such, there's nothing I can really show you or provide to you for this round. All I would say is that I would advise you to play to your own strengths in this round. Whether you want to go completely nuts or build something reserved but realistic, build a submission that best showcases your greatest strengths as a coaster builder.

The other thing I should probably reveal is that any votes gained in the Bonus Round are worth double the points they were worth in any prior round. So if there was ever an ideal round to compete in, it's this one; it offers double the points of any of the previous rounds, and it's your prime opportunity to build whatever you want without constraint!

Please measure your coaster's height using Terrain Relative height markers in build mode (this is the setting labelled with a mountain).

To submit, please build your submission, film a POV and off-ride shots of it, and post the video(s) in this thread. You can briefly describe your ride if you wish. YouTube is the website I'd recommend for uploading videos to, as this would integrate best with the Google Form when it comes to voting, but if you want to upload your video(s) using a different method, then that's also fine. If you have any issues with recording or uploading your video(s), please don't hesitate to contact me. I will try my best to assist you.

May I once again emphasise that this is a coaster layout building contest. By all means add some light theming and landscaping if you wish, but the coaster layout should ideally be the focus. Quality of coaster layout is pretty much the be all and end all here; heavy theming won't gain you any points, and no theming won't lose you any points.

The submission deadline for the Bonus Round is Friday 8th March 2024 at 11:45pm. If you struggle for time and would like me to extend the deadline, please PM me or request an extension in this thread before the deadline. If you do not make contact with me and ask for an extension, I will assume that you simply do not want to compete in this round and move on after the posted deadline.

I think that's all I need to cover for Week 12. Good luck with the Bonus Round, folks! If you have any questions or concerns about the round or about anything else, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am always more than happy to help.

Get building for the Bonus Round and voting for Round 11, everybody! The Week 13 Weekly Digest will drop exactly 8 days from today, on Saturday 9th March 2024 at 12am.

Didn't realise it was time for submissions! I've got a Polercoaster one that I should have ready this afternoon - Saturday at the latest. Can I be cheeky and be admitted as a latecomer?

That’s a tough one… I’m afraid I won’t have access to my PC for the entire weekend to edit the voting form, and the voting has already started. If I was at home, I’d be more inclined to say yes, but with me going away and not having access to my PC, it does make it more difficult, I’m afraid, as the earliest I could add you would be Monday and this would be a good few days into voting with only a few days left.

I’m very sorry… I don’t mean to be difficult.

One from my last park (had to delete quite a bit of it to get the POV at a good frame-rate!). This is Peaker, an RMC through the North American/Canadian Rockies.
