Universal Studios Japan: General Discussion

Looks brilliant, carries some considerable speed throughout the whole layout! Certainly going to be intense, makes me wonder whether they might try to slow it down a little.

:)

The first Nintendo land has been confirmed and it is in relation to Universal Studios Japan:
Kotaku said:
As Kotaku reported last year, Nintendo is coming to Universal Studios Japan. Today, the first details—namely, how large the Nintendo area will be, how much will be spent, and when it should be completed—have been made public.

According to Sankei News, forty billion yen (US$351 million) is being invested in this project with the deal getting finalized on Friday. The paper notes that this is similar to the large-scale investment Universal Studios made in the Harry Potter franchise with The Wizarding World of Harry Potter area.

Likewise, the Mario and co. themed area will be a healthy part of the park. Via Sankei News, the upcoming Nintendo-themed area is marked in red on the map below. The current Universal Studios Japan attractions areas are in green.

Currently, the future Nintendo area is used as an event space. It’s located on the left side of the main entrance gate. But, what can we expect?

“The immersive experiences will include major attractions at Universal’s theme parks and will feature Nintendo’s most famous characters and games,” an official release stated last year. It added that Universal theme parks will create “spectacular, dedicated experiences based on Nintendo’s wildly popular games, characters and worlds.”

The goal is to have the Nintendo section completed by 2020, when the Olympics will be held in Tokyo with the hope that visitors will also want to visit Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. No doubt they will.

As expected these Nintendo lands will be Mario themed and the latest I have seen is that Japan is expected to open first, followed by Hollywood and then they'll perfect it all for Orlando which will be the biggest of the lands. It says they aim to complete the Japan one by 2020 but I would expect it to be before that; Nintendo land Orlando is due by 2020.

Concepts soon please!

:)

It does make sense that Japan will be getting Nintendo Land first, since they are a Japanese company of course. Would be daft to not have it completed by the next Olympics! I'd be surprised if there was no Zelda related attraction though.

These initial lands are going to be Mario focussed. Expect other IPs like Zelda to make an appearance in Universal's third (but unconfirmed) Orlando theme park!

:)

The new Jurassic park coaster is attracting some insane queues- the standard queue has been hitting 750 mins! That's 12.5 hours. How could anyone even contemplate waiting that long to ride! The park are having to close the queue 20 mins after park opening, so the last people ride before the park shuts! Makes no sense!

That is insane! This coaster looks great, but I wouldn't justify a wait for more than 90 mins for it. Imagine queueing for a ride in the morning and not getting out of there until night!

For a FLYER?!?!

The original video I never saw as it's not available now. It can't be THAT good surely?!

It's not surprising, some flyers can be of outstanding quality and I'd happily wait that amount of time for the likes of this, Starry Sky Ripper and Tatsu.

750 minutes!? That can't be right, surely? No ride in the world is worth that long of a queue.

Wow! It is expected that if all goes to plan then Japan's land will open at some point in 2019. Orlando should then follow in 2020 although we'll have to wait a little longer for details of that.

In terms of what's what in the concept art; Peach's Castle is excepted to be the area's façade, Bowser's Castle the Mario Kart ride, the mountain with Yoshis on it will be the Yoshi dark ride and the Donkey Kong coaster will be located to the right (Mario and Luigi are blocking this in the concept art).

All in all these areas are going to be brilliant!

:)

It's been a while, but here is a satellite photo that shows how construction of Super Nintendo World in Japan is coming along:

The track for the Yoshi ride can be seen as well as the show building for the Mario Kart ride.

It looked a short ride from the drawings and the article above seems to confirm that - "over 40" vehicles really isn't a lot for an omnimover style ride. I'm pretty sure EP's Madame Whatshertits has >60, and that's a pretty short ride.

Super Nintendo World is set to open in Japan this year, and here are some new aerial photos that show how it is coming along:

It certainly looks like the games do. I am interested to see how the look and feel does work as a theme park area, and that is something that will be hard to get a grasp of from only photos and videos.

Be nice to have a Universal studios resort a bit closer to home. We've got a Disney resort a relative stones throw from UK in Paris.....wouldn't it be nice to have a Universal Studios resort in Europe or even in the UK.....say on the proposed site for the paramount park that will never see the light of day.

A guy can dream......
