Your Top Ten Coasters

Storm Runner at Hersheypark inverts Jon and that was pre-Maverick by 3 years! :)

The Revolution at BPB launches and that beats Maverick by a mere 28 years! ;)

Not forgetting the countless Schwatzkopft Shuttle Loop coasters that were around the world too!

OK, OK. :p

I got it wrong, I admit that. Perhaps it would be more appropriate to say that they seem to have gained in popularity again since Stormrunner/Maverick/whatever was installed a few years ago. Happy now? :p

After epic summer travels my list has somewhat changed, so here is the current version;

1. El Toro - Wow, just wow! That one hill especially! Drop is great too, in fact it all is!

2. Maverick - Quick transitions, overbanks, launch, airtime, this coaster has it all.

3. Skyrush - Never have POVs done a coaster such injustice. Genuinely terrifying and airtime as extreme as any other I've encountered, constantly! This ride WILL kill someone eventually :p Drop is great too, as is the insanely fast lift hill! Only suffers from being too short.

4. EGF - My former no.1, insane first drop followed by airtime galore.

5. iSpeed - First half is amazing but does lessen off towards the end.

6. Boulder Dash - Incredible terrain woodie. Fast paced with a real woodie feel, and airtime by the bucketload.

7. Tonnerre De Zeus - Really great woodie, not too dissimilar to Boulder. Slightly less airtime and a very different layout. Seems to keep going and going!

8. Raptor - Really intense invert with a great layout. Lack of trims meant it rode very similar to Monster but with much nicer aesthetics! A really top ride, especially on back row.

9. Nemesis - Don't think I need to say much here...

10. Shambhala - The best B&M hyper I've ridden by a distance. Great first drop and the airtime that follows is almost constant. It's mostly floater, but is strong and sustained. Front row it's especially great! I'm also a fan of the 'stadium seating', I felt it gave a greater feeling of freedom whilst not being unsociable.

Admittedly this list could change daily, positions 2 - 6 are particuarly interchangeable. Just missing out were Phoenix and Batman La Fuga and on another day one of them could easily have made it in. And yep, I'm an Intamin fanboy :p

1. Katun, Mirabilandia
2. Nemesis, Alton Towers
3. Dragon Khan, Port Aventura
4. Black Mamba, Phantasialand
5. Expedition ge Force, Holiday Park
6. The Swarm, Thorpe Park [before the whole backwards nonsense...]
7. Colossos, Heide Park
8. Silver Star, Europa Park
9. Blue Fire, Europa Park
10. Lynet, Farup Sommerland

...it's worth mentioning that I've not been outside of Europe [yet], and though I'm well travelled in Europe, I've not been on several of that list since 2008-9, so... it may be due a rethink in the next few years. You can imagine my joy on finally riding a Nemesis beater though!

Katun is great.

But it's not Nemesis.

It's super fast but doesn't quite pull the G's for me. I rate several Inverts higher.

1. Kraken, Sea World Orlando
2. Nemesis, Alton Towers
3. Saw- The Ride, Thorpe Park
4. The Smiler, Alton Towers
5. The Swarm, Thorpe Park
6. Manta, Sea World Orlando
7. Stealth, Thorpe Park
8. The Incredible Hulk Coaster, Islands of Adventure
9. Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket, Universal Studios
10. Dragon Challenge- Chinese Firebolt, Islands of Adventure

It changes like every three minutes so, this is mine now! :)

My 10:

1. Oblivion - Alton Towers

2. Stealth - Thorpe Park

3. Grand National - Blackpool Pleasure Beach

4. Air - Alton Towers

5. Space Mountain Mission 2 - Disneyland Paris

6. Nemesis - Alton Towers

7. Dragon's Fury - Chessington

8. Swarm - Thorpe Park

9. Saw - Thorpe Park

10. Big Thuder Mountain Railroad - Disneyland Paris

As you can tell, I haven't been to a lot of parks.

1) Colossus- Thorpe park. Love it, many people under rate it. But I love it because of the way it is set out and its cool theme.
2) Nemesis- Enough has been said.
3) Blue fire. Awesome ride.
4) The swarm. Ride experience + amazing theming + B&M= Awesome.
5) Stealth- Tall, fast and fun!
6) Oblivion. Just the drop catches me every time. Plus the buzz from it is great!
7) Air- nice floaty feel to it, despite manly bits sometimes getting crushed.( Ride host dependable)
8) Thirteen- It is actually quite a nice ride, I love the drop.
9) Rattlesnake- Its rather fun! With all the sharp turns and all.
10) Dragons fury, nice spinner and long and fun.

Expect it to change after my first visits to DLP and Parc Asterix during October half-term, but I'll show what my list is at the moment.

1. Nemesis
2. Incredible Hulk
3. Expedition Everest
4. The Ultimate
5. Black Mamba
6. Oblivion
7. Montu
8. Colorado Adventure
9. Air
10. Grand National

I really am surprised that people rate Oblivion in their top ten coasters. If any of the non-Nemesis Alton coasters deserve a top ten place, surely Air would be a better candidate?

I'd disagree - Air isn't anywhere near my UK top 10, and hasn't been since about 2007 - which was before I'd visited Drayton, LWV, Chessington or been on a major coaster at Oakwood. Oblivion probably isn't in my top 10 UK either, but it's far higher than Air.

Looking at the last few posts, most of the people ranking Oblivion in their top 10 also have Air in there, generally a few places lower.

I'm not sure why a ride with a vertical, 200 foot drop and pretty much the best theming of any large UK coaster wouldn't have a legit shout at being a top 10, especially for people who haven't been to many overseas parks.

I have two sets of top 10's.

6: Mr Freeze - Six Flags Over Texas
7: OzIris - Parc Asterix
8: Poltergiest - Six Flags Fiesta Texas

Is this list some kind of joke?

Some of the rides named above are appalling!

Baco, Stampida... they are horrible! Appalling operations and diabolical ride comfort.

Your list seems very weighted towards Disneyland Paris and Portaventura, although I agree Shambhala is well renowned.

Because they're my favourite coasters? Just because a ride is rough doesn't mean it's no good?! I think Baco and Stampida are amazing, the roughness is what makes them fun, whats the point going on something if you're going to fall asleep halfway around. Its my opinion at the end of the day :)

At the moment mine is

1 Expedition Ge Force
2 Oz'Iris
3 Nemesis
4 Blue Fire
5 Black Mamba
6 Stealth
7 Air
8 Monster
9 Goliath (Walibi World)
10 Tonerre de Zeus

:)
