Your Top Worst Coasters

Actual Least Favourite Coasters

In no particular order:

Space Mountain: Mission 2, Disneyland Paris: Absolutely horrible, it's like being beaten up in the dark. I want to love it because it looks so awesome but I think it's time Disney replaced the actual coaster with something better. I can't believe that a company like Disney finds it acceptable to operate a ride that distributes that amount of pain.

Looping Star, Cadona's Aberdeen: It's a Pinfari ZL-42, it's cheap and nasty, it rattles and shakes and it comes with a free headache.

Superwirbel, Holiday Park: I've been on three Vekoma Corkscrews but this one's by far the worst I've been on. It's just constant headbanging all the way round, even through the double corkscrew which usually manages to be pretty smooth. One of the world's worst coasters at a park with one of the world's best coasters.

PMBO, Blackpool: The only redeeming feature used to be the drop but that has now become stupidly rough in the back few rows. It's just an over sized, rough, boring, poorly paced, badly engineered, ugly waste of an investment. It makes me wonder if the Rocky Mountain Iron Horse treatment would be possible for steel coasters.

Magnus Colossus, Terra Mitica: It looks fantastic but it just isn't. It's the only coaster I've been on with lapbars that's given me a headache and it's down to the violent jack-hammering vibrations throughout the layout. The pacing is also terrible, it absolutely crawls through some sections and the elements are so large and drawn out, most of them offer no excitement whatsoever. You get the impression that RCCA coasters were designed for their looks rather than the ride they offer.

Saw: The Ride, Thorpe Park: I can't believe that a coaster that was only built in 2009 could be this bad.

Coasters that weren't bad but didn't live up to the hype

Tonnere de Zeus, PArk Asterix: It wasn't bad at all but I wouldn't put it in contention as one of Europe's best coasters as many seem to. Before anyone says it's not what it used to be, this was back in the day when the train would hit the brakes and the entire brake run would shake backwards and forwards for 30 seconds.

Silverstar, Europa Park Brilliant first drop but the rest was so disappointingly average. It could be so much better if they reigned in those trims on pretty much every hill.

Bonus Round: Coasters that everyone hates but I thought were alright

Gouderix, Parc Asterix: It wasn't too bad at all. I would almost call it smooth, it wasn't a great ride by any means, it was pretty forceless and boring for a coaster with 7 inversions but it didn't do anything to make me hate it.

Furius Baco, Port Aventura: Sorry everyone but I really, really liked it. It's probably my favourite launch coaster.

Stampida, Port Aventura: It was very rough but I had a lot of fun on this coaster all the same. The racing / dueling aspect worked really well.

I think that just about covers everything

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit - horrifically rough for a relatively new steel coaster, hideous restraints and a generally underwhelming coaster.

Now I respect that everyone has a different opinion, but I have to call you up on this. I presume I've been on the same three as you (Wirble, Alton, Flamingoland), and of the three I found Wirble to be the best. By Vekoma standards it was amazingly smooth. I found it hard to believe it was not only the same model of coster, but also by far the oldest.

But hey, each to their own. ;)

Now as for my list...

Boring coasters:

Big Thunder Mountain (DLP): I'd take a Pinfari kiddy coaster over this any day. It would actually be more exciting, and that's not an overstatement. Literally nothing happens on the mountain itself. Sure, the final dive under the lake is fun, but that is too little, too late. The rest of the track is nothing but lift hills and gentle curves.

Air (Alton): Does nothing for me, I'm afraid. I don't hate it, but it's one of those that I only ride because the people I'm with want to. Were it down to me, I'd just whore Nemy four or five times in the time it takes to get one ride on Air when it is "walk on".

Rita (Alton): It reeks of a coaster built for the sake of having a coaster. The layout is nothing more than a figure 8, which should be illegal in the twenty first century.

All steel wild mice: I will never understand why they put the hairpins at the top. They waste a good 30 feet of hight doing nothing. I think I'd prefer them if they removed the whole top section, cut the crap, and just got straight in to those cute little drops, which are rather fun for their size. I rode Wilde Maus XXL at Winter Wonderland over Christmas. The first few drops were brilliant... Then they ruined it by joining the traditional mouse layout, and it became a bore fest.

Painful coasters:

Infusion (BPB): The only standard hang and bang I've been on (I find Kumali to be glass smooth in comparison), and until a few weeks ago I would have called it the worst credit on my list.

Colossus (Thorpe): A horrible ride that does nothing but beat you round the head for 90 seconds. Pretty to look at when it was new, but these days I wouldn't bat an eyelid if it was scrapped.

Python (Efteling): This is based on the old Kumbak trains. I've been on rougher (Infusion), but for a single blow to the head, this wins. The entry to the first corkscrew was like being punched in the temple by Tyson. Now, with the new Vekoma tains with vest restraints, it is ridable but dull.

Space Mountain Mission 2 (DLP): Again, a rough Vekoma headbanger. But unlike Python, I firmly believe this ride could be saved, no, totally transformed, by upgrading the trains. Something that thankfully is planned for the near future.

But by far, the absolute worst abomination I have ever had the misfortune to ride is...

Furius Baco (Portaventura): It's hard to come up with original insults for this thing. I've never been on anything even close to it for vibration, constant headbanging, and lingering headaches. As for the layout, it's even less inspired than Rita, being only a single trip round the figure 8 rather than two. Even though it is the fastest coaster in Europe, the launch pales into insignificance compared to Stealth. The numbers speak for themselves; Stealth hits 80mph in 1.9 seconds, Baco takes a whole 3.5 seconds to reach 83.9mph. And what does that extra not-even-four-miles-per-hour get you? Pain. Sheer, unadulterated, head splitting, makes-you-wish-for-an-early-death-so-the-ride-will-end-sooner PAIN.

BLEEP
Furius Baco. Melting it down for scrap is too good for it. I want to burn it with thermite. I want to watch it disappear in a shower of white hot sparks, filmed in 1080P super slow motion, Mythbusters style. Then I will loop the footage and have it on perminant loop, on a dedicated 60" screen, playing Händel's "Hallelujah" in 7.2 surround sound.

Blackpool

I hate Big Dipper, don't mind Nash- its a bit of fun if you have someone else on the other train, roller coaster/nick streak, haven't been on, Wild mouse, death trap- while I get that's that's the point of it, I still think its over rated. Infusion is rough and liked to spit track grease at me, pmbo looks so pretty, but is ultimately disappointing how it doesn't ride as good as it looks, Valhalla is an amazing dark ride, but to wet.

Don't know why but I'm massively cynical of BPBPBPBP... I'm not really a fan of amusement parks like that.

Sonic Spinball (Alton Towers): I find this ride stupidly uncomfortable for many reasons then it feels about as safe as a backyard coaster (and wobbles like one.) The queue for it is an utter nightmare which doesn't ever move and when you get on and ride the layout isn't good enough to make up for all the other crap bits.

TH13TEEN (Alton Towers): This is a disappointing rather than awful one. They could have done so much more but didn't. The layout is boring and is only redeemed by the indoor bit and slightly the first drop.

You ain't seen a wobble 'till you've seen a Fury wobble ;)

Stampida - PortAventura
Baco felt like Air after riding Stampida. I'm still convinced I received a concussion from this thing. Plain awful and extremely rough!

Blue Tornado - Gardaland
This is the only SLC I've been on, but I think I speak for most examples when I say these rides are just awful in the smoothness department. It's a shame, as most SLC layouts have all the potential for great rides, yet as I understand it, the trains let the whole side down.

Furious Baco - PortAventura
Love, love, love the launch, but what follows is just pain in every part of your body. I found the inside seats to be bad enough, so can only imagine what the outer seats must feel like.

G Force - Drayton Manor
Where does one start? It's dull, short and features a restraint system that resembles something from a Saw film.

Also seen and ridden that too but cba to write about it :p

I currently have 5, will update soon :p

Rita - A bit dull
Colossus - The Pain!?
SAW - Just felt it to be forceless, a bit dull?
X:\ NWO - Sorry, what?
Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit - another forceless one, just felt like i was asleep?

1. Rollercoaster (formerly Manhattan Express) at New York New York Casino in Vegas. Strange layout, awful trains and back compressing elements! Painful.
2. Limit at Heide Park. Truly awful SLC.
3. The Ultimate.

Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit - horrifically rough for a relatively new steel coaster, hideous restraints and a generally underwhelming coaster.

Underwhelming is a good choice of word for HRRR, it is very much a 'meh' coaster.

Just like Cheetah Hunt. Weak launches and generally quite boring. It just doens't do anything interesting.

I have a better idea for disposing of Baco. Have it gradually blow up as the train goes along the track, like the finale in V for Vendetta. ;)

But that would mean people would have to ride it. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemies. Although maybe the ride's designers could work...

All big apple/caterpillar coasters. Rough and uncomfortable. Also boring as hell.
Corkscrew (Playland Vancouver Canada) Most coasters a lot more forceful in the afternoon. B&Ms and Vampire come to mind. Boring coasters become much better. But nope, this coaster is tame, short, and boring.
Great American Scream Machine, SFOG Boring layout, consisting of no-airtime hills.
The Big One A hyper slice of disappointment
Infusion Not the worst SLC, but bad enough for me to forget it.

Rather than just coasters that make me sick, here are ones I don't find it worth riding. I'll ride anything as long as it's got a decent theme (that's a good rule to follow in all aspects of one's life)

1. Temple of the Nighthawk - went on for too long and made me feel too sick with no story/theming payoff. I'll do indoor coasters regardless of this if there's indoor effects (e.g. Space Mountain) but this was just nauseation in the dark.

2. Speed - although it's comparable to SAW in terms of roughness, I ride SAW because (even though I'm not a fan of the IP) it has vague semblance of a story and I like the indoor section. Speed is just a mess, and being dispatched from a B&Q shed really does make the experience a billion times worse for me.

3. Sonic Spinball/Any spinner - I thought the spinner at Phantasialand looked cool but after my experience on Spinball I just couldn't write off the rest of the day. It's a shame because they look like a lot of fun.

4. Silver Star - this had been hyped up by my friends, so I spent an extra 30 mins queuing for the front (I was a single rider). I cannot remember anything about it except the fact it was almost all airtime hills that made me feel sick. My eyes were streaming by the end and I could find no redeeming qualities in it other than it has a cool name.

I would like to put Furius Baco on here but I probably will re-ride it next month when I visit. I did like the vineyard when it first opened and thought it looked quite cool. The coasters above are ones I would never ride again, even if you begged me.

Revolution, BPB - I'm probably in a minority here but the tightness of the loop just hurt my head. Didn't find it fun at all.

Rita, Alton Towers - I used to love this when I first went on it and I still do, if I'm riding at the front. When I'm put at the back, it throws your head around so much that I come off feeling sick. I found Velocity at Flamingo Land much better.

Meh Coasters

Kumali, Flamingo Land - It seems to get rougher every time you ride it. The layout also seems pretty uninspired. Like they just threw in 4 inversions in a row and a helix.

Infusion, BPB - In no way bad IMO, just rough.
