Ride/park accidents in 2013/2014

Now, let's not forget that rides in the UK have had parts break due to it getting hot...
Agreed but if a ride is being built for use in a very hot climate and to be operated in said climate - it should work and not crack. This is all wild speculation anyway as it might not be structural :)

As Dave said, heat issues in the UK are more often than not due to massive and sudden temperature changes rather than continued and sustained heat.

I was in Spain that weekend, and the temperature fluctuates from less than 10c to 30c between midnight and midday. I don't need a science lesson. I do, shock horror, know what happens to make metal expand and contract.
To answer your question, yes, the temperature was waving around a fair amount, exactly the same way it was over here.

No need for sarcasm, I was hardly being anywhere near condescending in my post, 'shock horror'.

My point still stands in my opinion. The temperature will obviously fluctuate between night time and the middle of the day - but that *is* the climate and the ride *should* be designed to work in said climate. My point about temperature is more that the ride will operate in 30c heat all day every day for most of the year. Here, a heat related issue could be because it's operated at 15c for weeks on end and then suddenly gets a day pushing 30c.

All the same though - this speculation is still wild, I'm interested to see what the official report says :)

yet no coasters in the UK killed anyone.

As with anything numbers matter, all the other manufacturers have minimal failure rates (Mack, Gerst, Premier ect) or non existent failure rates (B&M). It says something when Intamins failure record warrants a wikipedia section of it's own.

Some risk is always a factor but if the other manufacturers set the standard Intamin fall well below it, you can combine the fatalities/ serious incidents on nearly all of the other manufacturers and they barely match Intamin on it's own.

Two in Oakwood if you include water coasters.

Name them, then name the list of intamin failures compared to the other manufacturers comparative to the rides each makes in the world and then we will see if this is "another" piece of bad luck or that intamin have a less than ideal safety record.

Wooooooooah, when did I say that Intamin didn't have a less than ideal safety record? I just said we shouldn't all jump to conclusions. Don't twist my words.

If we're counting Space Invader and Hydro though they *are* grey areas as the riders involved did get up during the ride.

Or Intamin are just crap at building rides which don't kill people.

You see some shoddy maintenance at other parks, yet their rides somehow don't kill people?

I'm not convinced anyone here has looked at a comprehensive list of ride incidents before.
Now we're just being hypothetical because anyone on the other side of the argument will throw that exact sentence back at you.

It's hard for anyone on either side to not a agree that Intamin have a below-par safety record, particularly on issues with their design. For example, I'm sure I heard that Th13teen originally could be dispatched without the restraints being fully down - an error that would lie entirely on Intamin's behalf.

When someone implies that ONLY Intamin rides have ever killed someone?
Read back, I don't think that's ever been implied. The only thing I've seen said is that Dave alleged that if you add up all the deaths from other major coaster manufacturers, that number (as a total) would probably be similar to Intamin (alone). True or not, I don't know - but it is damn near a fact that Intamin's safety record is far worse than the other major manufacturers.

*Makes frustrated noises*
Someone please tell me when I said that I do not believe Intamin have a below par safety record. Because I didn't. I simply requested that people keep an open mind.
