2015: Alton Towers Enchanted Village

AT posted some pics of the treehouses on their facebook page.ist of the comments were around how high the prices were. Although several people didn't seem to realise they sleep 8, as they were complaining it is too expensive for two people, when you would never actually book a treehouse just for two.

I don't know, it's the only choice you have at Towers if you want a bit of luxury - I bet some will.

However, 8.... I know they CAN sleep 8, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they SHOULD lol.

I think 4/6 adults from what I have seen looks comfortable, but for a lads/ladies or big group of good friends (TST for example would be fine lol! - they'd all end up in one probably!) I think it could work but then it runs the risk of being rowdy.

They missed a huge bit in the middle by only building the opposite ends of the scale.

A 2/5 person luxury lodge/small treehouse would have been a solid middle ground - as it is there isn't.

Tiny hotel rooms, tiny lodges, or huge 8 person treehouse.

See my point?

Yep they could have built la few as double lodges. So same building as the normal lodges, but instead of being two separate rooms its one large lodge with bed, sofa bed, kitchenette, bunk beds, single bed and 2 bathrooms. This can then sleep 4-7 but is smaller/cheaper than treehouse (price it similar to two separate lodges still).

Well, in time, they will no doubt evaluate and look into demand - then perhaps add a few more? Or of a different size? Who knows!

:)

Was on park last weekend (6th) and got a couple of pics of the progress.

Progress looks good would like to see it pretty much finished by the end of January

When I was on the M1 the other day I saw a roof and lodge on two lorries heading towards towers. It must be a nightmare once you get closer to the park with the small roads. It was pretty much taking up two lanes on the M1.

While the prefabricated building method is tried and tested, and obviously works well in this instance, does it not bother anyone else that these lodges are essentially customised Portacabins? When you know that, it's actually really obvious to look at eatch hut and see that it has a big seam down the middle where two wooden shipping containers have been stuck together.

(And yes, I know that a lot of hotel rooms are built this way and inserted in to a building. And I don't doubt their functionality. I'm just pointing out that they still look very artificial and prefabricated. Each hut is just a clone of the one next to it, without any individual character.)

I don't know if they will actually do this but it wouldn't be hard to go around the village and add little touches to give each lodge a little individuality. It would certainly be something i would do. It's also worth remembering the origional plan had more lodge variation but i think because the council forced a scale back they had to pick the lodge that gave the best capacity for the given space.

Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly understandable to use a prefabricated base for the huts. As you say, some decoration would help make them more individual. Unfortunately I can't see that happening.

I don't think the plain beige walls help. It's a shame at least some of them aren't clad in irregular wooden planking.

I'm fairly sure the show Lodge had the beige wall's having a weather effect unless i'm imagining it. Might be something they add later.

EDIT: Yeah there was some weathering added to the walls.

I am slightly concerned it will look like your average holiday camp, with garish copy-cat buildings scattered across a large area, looking like the beginnings of a concentration camp.

Although this is Alton Towers and despite the mistakes Merlin have made I highly doubt they will do the same with the resort sides of things. They will probably pull their finger out far more as far as the lodges are concerned. The weathered effect on the lodges will help, and I'm sure when we see trees, shrubbery, grass, plants, play areas, maybe even some theming details (not expecting it but who knows) all added it will look very nice and not be an eyesore. At the moment it looks a mess, but I'm sure in April we will all be very impressed with the final product and it should be a great addition to the resort.

I hope they do add detailings to the lodges like in the show lodge. There is potential to make this village really magical if they put the care and effort into it. The fact that it is a resort investment does make this a lot more likely than if it was on the theme park itself.

:)

We all know with Merlin that what is supposed to happen, usually, doesn't happen once the structures are up.

My biggest concern with these however is not so much their appearance, but noise when staying in them. They are made from wood with hollow wooden floors.... they could be noisy if you have a group in the room next to you, then again, on the plus side thinking about it, you only have people on one side of you, and no kids running up and down the corridors (which makes a hell of a noise in both hotels).

Europa-Park have a Tipi Village and there is security on at all times to monitor noise.

Between the hours of 11pm and 7.00am it is requested that guests are quiet.

I can't see Towers paying for a "noise police" squad to patrol the area though. And let's be honest, EP's security are a bit over zealous when it comes to this (not just in Tipidorf, but seemingly everywhere on resort). Even when we are being quiet, we have often been told "It is night time, go to bed!"
