This is the problem with the Alton Towers VIP stuff compared to Disney, they include admission.
For the Ice Age premiere thing £55 for adults, less admission is about £30. Which is OK for Express parking, fast track and the other bits, but would have been better if lunch was included as well. But for an annual passholder £45 makes no sense.
Better to just price for a VIP thing and let people sort their own admission.

Right, let's work this out...

Theme park entry - £25 if you have any sense.
Car parking - £16 (although I wouldn't want to park in express, I'm more than happy with peasant standard, so £6)
Fastrack Adventurer - £13
Watch the film... - £0
Meet the characters... - £0
Lanyard - £5 ish
Toy £5 ish (let's face it, it's not going to be anything major)
Walk down - £0
Popcorn and drink - £8 ish

Total - £72

Ok, ok. Yes it's a lot more to buy each of them individually, but I for one wouldn't want a tacky lanyard or a toy, and each person in the group is paying for the express parking, when it would normally be £16 between the whole group. Also, knocking £25 off for annual pass holders, this is extremely overpriced.

Today, Merlin have given Alton Towers their very own polling station...

With regards to the Big 6 Challenge, we found out on Monday that unless you have iOS 7 or later (on Apple products at least), you can't download the app! I'm not sure what the restrictions are with Android/WindowsPhone, but for someone who has only the second latest Apple iPod, I can't participate in the challenge. I have a mind to go and express my opinions on such a ludicrous restriction at Box Office next time I'm there.

Also this challenge rules out anyone who refuses to have a smart phone, which a lot of people don't have. I will be mentioning this, also.

To be honest their is always people who fall through the tiny gaps. Is this right........... of course not. All technology does these days is punish the poor people who either, cant afford to have the latest .com portable smart ass, or people who like me don't want to be bang up to date with the companies latest version of making your phone slower. Also for not having the right brand. I will never ever go back to an iphone, and I don't have any desire for a Samsung. So it looks like, just like you my friend that we are the people who will have suck it up, and be punished for not be up to date.

What's wrong with a piece of card and stamp. Or a hole punch.

What I'm getting at though is that there should be an option to do it without a mobile. A card to stamp or something. Although I suppose they want some publicity on social media, don't they.

Apple enforce rules re: which OS on new apps. I'm not sure how the Selfie Challenge could be completed without a smart phone, and I'm sure the 1% of guests without a suitable device can find a solution with a member of staff. :)

Towers in wanting publicity from a marketing campaign shocker!

What else is it meant to achieve lol?

I was more thinking about returning on that specific date and because they haven't paid anything to get in, they decide they can afford fastrack/express parking/lots of merch/lots of food etc. Just like The Sun free ticket campaign.

The chances of most people coming back on a cold midweek short opening day in November is slim.

Most people will complete it for fun and by completing it and entering the selfie competition Towers get some positive social media exposure :)

There will be a good number of people come back I would say. Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see. :p

I wouldn't mind a cold day in November for free, if the weather holds (even if it rains ill be happy) Less queues hardly anyone their, as long as the coffee stall is fully stocked and the kettle is on, how bad can it be.
